Well, two games and

Bamanatic, I have no clue. Trying to find out. Safe to say, it took lots of folks by surprise.

This does not bode well, at least, this point.

(per Tidesports.Com--scroll down to the bottom) "3 players missed tonight's game due to injuries, but are expected back in action for next Thursday's game with OU."

Hope this helps.

To answer some questions about injuries (I feel like I am betraying Coach Fran), all three injured players were hurt in practice yesterday (Thursday). Reese hurt his nose. Antoine Pettway hurt his knee and may not be 100% next week. Earnest Shelton is hurt in a couple of places (toe and knee I think). He is looking better than Pett right now, but they will definitely need a week of rest. What a rough practice it was.

As far as the team looks, I am worried about where we are right now. I have faith that things will improve soon, but the loss of Winston is hurting this team more than most people know.

What's up with the Winston situation? Is the the nc2a conducting this thing? If so, are they dragging it out because Bama exposed them and showed how they are inept with the football deal? Can't help but feel paranoid with scummy nc2a people.

And on the way Oklahoma, for joy.

FWIW: The team we played tonight...

Of course, it is difficult to judge exhibition games, but:

Athletes in Action, before Bama, lost to:

Air Force 66 –56.

Colorado State 97 – 79.

Arkansas 77 –73

And if we are looking for a true freshman (KW), who at best was top 20 in his HS class nationally, to make our team into the final four...we are hurting.

Who keeps pushing the panic button? Jeesh, we've played 2 exibition games. Lets wait until next Thursday for a meaningful evaluation. I still feel good about the team and think we'll beat Oklahoma.

Although many have vilified him, we miss Rod Grizzard. He was impertant both for his skill as a player and his contribution to the team's chemistry. I think that we will get there, but we haven't gotten the chemistry right for this year's team yet.

I love what Mo Williams brings us now with his offensive skills, but it raises a concern with me. When you have a great offensive player on the perimeter, it can lead to the other players standing around waiting for the great player to do something. I experienced this many years ago when I was playing high school ball. When the star was off his game my school didn't have any other options. I've observed this happening down through the years at Bama (James Robinson under David Hobbs) and at various other schoo;s. I hope that CMG and Mo won't let this happen to us.

Another concern that I have is defense. T. R. Dunn meant a lot to our staff last year, and I don't think the staff has all of the roles quite worked out yet.

RTR:

I am not saying that we are depending on KW to take us to the final four, but he can fill RG's shoes almost immediately. He already has the confidence to play against the experienced players and he could possibly be our best scorer. Without him, we lose 10-15 points a night and another legitimate scoring threat. Right now, we only have two threats and that is not hard to defend.

Plus, it is never good when your point guard is scoring 30 points a night. Everyone depends on him to get the offense moving, and when he is looking to score a lot (which he should when he has such a great touch) the offense becomes stagnant.

Not good at this point. Mo has bailed us out twice now or we'd be looking at 0-2. Granted, we were not at full strength, but we do not look good. As someone stated earlier, I think we are missing TR Dunn big time right now. The defense is not there like it was last season.

Offesnivly, we miss Rod big time. Not so much from a scoring standpoint but from the fact that he was a threat and commanded the respect of the other team. This freed up the interior a little more for Dudley & Mo to operate the past two years. Now teams are more willing to sag off of the other perimeter players and make them win the game instead of allowing Dudley to take total control of the game himself.

Its early, but in all honesty I'm really worried about this team. We really don't look good at all. Especially defensively. We seem to have a difficult time getting around screens on the perimeter for some reason. My greatest fear is that we could have all this hype and fall flat on our face like the 2000 football team. I don't think that will happen but we need to improve quickly or else maybe we'll turn things on when the lights go on at MSG in NYC next week.

Roll Tide & Beat OU

Let me say this first...there is no need to get alarmed over these 2 exhibition games. That is all they are...exhibition. I am confident in CMG and his staff. They will do what is necessary to get the guys ready.

Secondly, this is just the beginning of the season. You usually play a but differently when the games do not mean anything. I am sure we had a purpose out there and hopefully it was accomplished. If I heard Coach correctly, he was concerned about someone besides Mo and Erwin shouldering the scoring burden. Defense was also a concern. But those things are obvious at this point to most. We need to get a couple of real games under our belts before you start hitting the panic button. I do not believe we are going to miss Rod (no disrespect intended) as much as some think. Guys have a way of stepping in and taking up the slack. Remember, we have not seen Earnest and Pett yet b/c of injuries. These 2 can make a difference in the offense and defense.

There is nothing we can do as fans about the Williams situation or KW's situation. Just like in football, we will have to live with the decisions made. I want them both to play now but it is not mine nor the fans decisions.

I am looking forward to this year and being a past gym rat, basketball is my time of the year.

One more thing and I am now preaching here...I hope people will come to the games and act like it is a football game or at least fill the building with noise like we did at the Florida game last year. If you are going to sit on your hands and watch, stay home and listen to it on the radio. Let some who want to help make CC a feared place take your seats and cheer. This is the first year I will have season tickets and I do not desire to go watch a basketball game in a morgue. I will be there on the weekends to cheer and yell wildly! We need to establish "THIS IS ALABAMA BASKETBALL!" like the football team has in their arena.

ROLL TIDE!

I loved Mark Gottfried as a B-ball player, but he has yet to prove himself as a coach. Don't give me that recruiting guru crap, because Auburn folk make that same defense about Tubberville. My point being, CMG has to motivate these guys to play smart, hard, and consistent basketball. Bama should be better conditioned than these two teams they faced and should be able to run away and win big. Oklahoma is well-coached people and no doubt Bama will be up and ready to play, but every game is not Oklahoma(hint Kent St.) so motivation has to come from your coaching.

I support Gottfried, but I watched Wimp's teams play hard every game. I remember when Derrick McKey and Robert Horry were playing soft and not to their full potential. THEY DID NOT LEAVE UA IN THAT MANNER AND THEIR NBA CAREERS SPEAK FOR THAT. Notice that Rod Grizzard did. Rod has sweet moves and seems so effortless, but the game is more than style points. Erwin has great effort and strength, but the game is more than brute strength. He will need motivation in the ball handling and passing department. Every player on that team needs adjustment in some area and the coaches gotta get it out of them. Even Mo came out in an article and said that his game on the floor as far as maturity has to elevate. Mo may be our best coach(just joking), but it's early. We'll see how they play next week and afterward. I'm still looking forward to the season and what CMG and the boys can do.

The supreme effort is a team effort.

I'm not "alarmed", only concerned. Just can't be condi.dfent, so far. Lots of basketball to play, though.

Let's see how EA Sports does against Carolina tonight, who will start, at least 3, true freshmen.

Exhibition games are certainly to the be all, end all. But, to some extent, they are a reference point.

I too fear that losing T.R. Dunn may hurt this team on the defensive end. I know CMG was unhappy about the defense in the first exhibition game.

Perhaps he tried to remedy that in practice, and that is what resulted in the injuries. I hope none of the injuries is too serious.

We'll just have to wait and see how things work out. The game with OU should be instructive.

ROLL TIDE FOREVER!

I so agree. The game with OU will define where we are at this point. But, while I want Bama to win, I'm not sure we should measure the season on that game, no matter what the outcome.

Defense is a very great concern, and IMO, it's beyond T.R. When at Bama, Mark was first a great defender, second a scorer on the perimeter. If you have been around him, he will jump, spit, yell over, defense first.

RTR!!!

And to add a point, players play, coaches don't. Not that I know much, but when I played Div - 1 basketball....ummm...I never saw a coach defense anything or score a point, on the court. Who knows, might have missed something. Maybe you have.

RTR!!!

Well, Bobby Knight did toss a chair onto the court, and he did yank a player off the court, but I don't think even the general could do much against Mo one on one.

I am confident that Mo, ED, KW and TM will show up well at Oklahoma, as will Pettway. They've been through this kind of game before. I think we'll win or lose though on how well players like Demetrius Smith, Ernest Shelton, Emmet Thomas. Reggie Rambo step up. Oklahoma is deep and we say we are deep, but depth only helps you if it produces on the court. It will be a baptism of fire for our two freshmen big men.
