When we visited my Grandparent many years ago, Grandpa would take us out to breakfast at a little diner in Phil Campbell, Alabama. He would always order a plate of calf brains and scrambled eggs!!
No way Jose.!!

What are cooked calf brains called?
Calf's brains, or cervelle de veau, is a traditional delicacy in Europe and Morocco. It is the brain of a calf consumed as meat. It is often served with tongue, sauteed with beurre noir and capers, or mixed with scrambled eggs (a traditional breakfast dish in the United States).
When I was a kid in the 60's and early 70's we always stopped at the Chat and Chew in downtown Phil Campbell on our way back from my uncles home in Haleyville. He actually lived about 2 miles from the bridge at Bear Creek.

strawberries. vile and disgusting
Can I ever trust another thing you'll ever say???

There are certainly things I prefer not to eat (e.g., brussel sprouts), but if my domestic boss puts something on my plate, I learned long ago it's best just to eat it first and quickly and then move on to the more enjoyable dishes. (I believe I've mentioned before that Lan has sharp elbows.) :D
I will try anything once, and have found that I can get through even a really bad meal with a smile on my face to avoid disappointing a host. But the foods that I avoid are liver and brussel sprouts.
OK, before you say you don't like brussel sprouts, you've got to go to Le Cellier Steakhouse at Epcot and try the fried whiskey glazed ones.

oh I have another one that will anger this board. Pecans, I absolutely hate these things.
That does it!

I'll try almost anything:

But, I think I'd draw the line on mountain oysters and brains from anything.

My dad used to cook crappie fish eggs - tried 'em but just give me the crappie!

He cooked squirrel brains in scrambled eggs a few times - nah, but I've eaten the squirrel meat and rabbit. Not crazy about it, but edible.

Maybe my most controversial: I can't stand the way blue cheese taste. I gag on it.

I am allergic to blue cheese and any moldy cheese.

I don't eat visceral food or anything blue.

That does not include blue cheese or blueberries. I'm talking about blue popsicles, blue icing, blue Icees or blue M&M's. It looks poisonous to me.

No brains, liver, chitlins, mountain oyster, rooster fries, etc. I do love hot dogs. Had 'em last night.

My 15 year old daughter has never tasted catsup. She's convinced she won't like it.

I’ve eaten some, um, interesting things in my day having traveled to Japan and Ghana.
I mean I had a grasscutter (greater cane rat) stew in Ghana which wasn’t actually bad, if you got beyond the fact you’re essentially eating roadkilled rodent.

In Japan I had a weird gelatin cup with raw octopus and veggies, that was God-awful. One bite and I threw the rest out.

But the one food at the top is Hákarl. I guess it’s fine if you like the taste of ammonia, but I’m not particularly keen on it, so that’s a nope, nope, never again food.

I’ve had durian before and I didn’t think it was that bad with the caveat that you have a narrow window to eat it before it goes rancid.
That was not my experience. They do make durian ice cream. I didn’t have the courage to try it.

One thing I wasn’t told about is the durian burps. I ate it for supper before boarding a flight a few hours later before going home. I felt sorry for the Korean guy who sat next to me as we flew back to Incheon.

I don't eat organ meat, so I don't know if I'd hate it, but I suspect I would.

Most other foods I'm fine with - I can't really think of anything I despise.

Except cilantro, tastes like dish-soap due to genetics.
Hmmm... I get a soapy taste from raspberries but not cilantro.

Yeah, I've read about it. Some people say it tastes like body odor or the way rotting flesh smells!

I generally mark off foods that are described as "not that bad."
To be fair, I only ate it once, a decade ago, and have had neither the opportunity nor desire to try it again. It was the night of the 2013 IB and had it not already gone rancid the next morning, I would have suggested chunking the carcass out of the car as we were traveling back home through Auburn.

Oh, man - it smells like sewage but it’s amazingly good!
I get it - normally I won’t eat it if I can’t get past the smell. But peer pressure (wife and family) made me choose between balut and Durian - I made the only choice I could.
