Tuscaloosa News:
Simpson navigated lower back issue since a third-quarter hit by South Carolina defensive end Dylan Stewart in Alabama's 29-22 win against the Gamecocks Saturday, Oct. 25, a source close to Simpson told The Tuscaloosa News. Simpson has been seen on multiple game broadcasts sitting on the bench with trainers, getting treatment on his lower back.

I think the play where he injured his back was with around 10:16 to play in the 3rd quarter against USCe.
So, this appears to be the moment when the Bama offense started to fall apart. No run game and a beat up QB is not a recipe for success.
It appears the limit on injuries is: lower back injury + gastritis + bursitis + broken rib.
That is a lot of punishment for a young man.

I was at that game. Brutal hit. Not good hitting the ground with you back at that angle.

Agreed. I do not know for sure, but the article linked in the OP says USCe defensive end Dylan Stewart hit Ty in the 3rd Qtr and that was the hardest hit Stewart delivered to Ty in the 3rd, so I suppose that was it. Not a dirty hit, just a good clean lick.
I think between Coach DeBoer and the medical staff, Ty probably should have been pulled for medical reasons and Mack sent in. Ty is a fighter and he would never asked to be taken out. That's why cooler had need to step in and save the young man.
Oh, well, water under the bridge now.

The injuries were just too much to overcome. Definitely affected his ability to throw downfield.

I was watching a clip of the UGA game where Simpson threw a bomb to Williams, who then dropped the sure touchdown. That ball travelled almost 60 yards in the air and was a perfect strike. There's no way Ty could throw that pass during the second half of the season. In the video below Ty throws the ball from his own 30 and hit RW inside the UGA 15. When healthy he has pretty adequate arm strength.

Missed TD Against UGA

That throw was effortless.

The lack of a run game absolutely killed this team down the stretch. I don’t think there is any QB who can carry every play of every game. Not least because, when the other team knows he is the only real threat, they can just focus on taking him away and applying nonstop pressure.

Just poor coaching/strategy imo. I mean I get that you “go to war with the army you have” during the season, but the coaches are also responsible for entering the season that way too. Just not impressed atm.

I've been saying this for a long time, this isn't just about whether you prefer to run or pass. It's about just keeping the defense from focusing entirely on your QB and from keeping your QB from feeling like he has to do it all.

You run more, you run effectively, the defenses can't just go murder your QB every play. In the previous season they let Milroe do way too much as well and while he didn't fall apart physically, he fell apart mentally. It's just not good to put any QB in that situation. Even Penix was out of his depth against Michigan.
