Which Player Will Make The Diffference?

Erwin and Mo are the heart and soul of the team. Take either one out and Bama has no chance this year.

Forced to choose I would say Mo will make the difference. Look what he did in the 1st round of the ncaa tourney last year. If it wasn't for him we would not have made it to the second round. He took the game over when we desperately needed someone to step up.

I look for him to not only be the team leader this year but also lead the team in scoring.

I think Dudley is the backbone of the team. He has a few breakout games occasionaly, but his consistancy is the main thing. You can always count on Erwin to do what needs to be done.

Erwin of course is a huge part of this team, but I don't think that Erwin or Mo alone can lead this team all the way to the elite eight. Don't get me wrong, they are tremendous players, but I don't think they can carry us that far. We are going to need a spark from someone and I haven't figured out who yet. I can see Shelton as being a big part if his shooting touch has gotten more consistent. Pettway should always give us that emotional spark when we need it. But, in my opinion, we are going to have to have one of the newcomers to step it up for us to advance that deep into the tournament. I'm not sure who, but that is my two cents worth.

As Mo goes so goes the Tide. A quality point guard like him will take you far into the tourney, not to take away anything from Erwin, but Mo is the difference maker on the team.

Mo and ED have taken us to the threshhold of the top echelon. If we are to advance further we need for some of the rest of the cast to step up. I think that Kenny Walker is primed to have a big year. He will be a big beneficiary of the extra attention that defenses will give ED. I also expect big things from Kennedy Winston once the eligibility issues are cleared up.

Kenny Walker can put us in New Orleans. Mo and ED are a given. To reach the highest level we need a shot blocking presence in the middle and some rebounding support. A big (and consistent) year from KW would be huge.

Next I would say we need Shelton to light it up from outside.

I agree with all the above. But, we really need a TEAM effort all year long.

We keep forgetting about Emmitt Thomas. If Winston is ineligible, this kid's defensive play could make the difference. I have seen Thomas play, and what he lacks on offense, he makes up for on defense. How rare is it today that players actually thrive on playing defense. Superstars are always there, and luckily this year, Bama has more than their share. Maybe players like Thomas or Rambo could make a defensive stop or two at critical times in critical games. Regarding KW, in the back of my mind, I felt the whole situation was bound to hit a snag sooner or later. I mean, the about face was so abrupt, that a smooth transition would have really surprised me. I just hope it is a minor slip-up and doesn't jeopardize Kennedy or the Tide this season.

Thanks, great ideas. Not, to be trite, but I agree with all of you. But, if I had to single out one spot...IMO, a team is only as good as the guy who pulls the trigger, the PG. Now Mo is more of a combo between the point and 2, and so much the better. Erwin, IMO, will be a better Erwin, if that's possbile. I think he is really a 4 in the 5 spot.

I think we need one more big time scorer...and my hope it will be Shelton. He sure had the #'s in HS. And, Ken Winston can score, for sure.

Gonna be a fun season.

The key to winning championships is your PG. No ifs, ands, or buts. You cant do it without a great PG running the offense.

With that said, I still think we will have to have Kenny Walker play more aggressively to have another option down low besides the triple teamed Dudley.

Too many possibilities and that is a GOOD thing. Erwin and Mo I think we all feel have the consistency issue down. I believe you can throw A. Pettway in there with those two also. Meade and Shelton have to play into their roles along with Smith. Meade was a force on the boards last season also.

Once Kenny Walker can officially join the Dudley, Mo, and Pettway category this team will be solid and hard to deal with. He should be our impact player this season. Not to add the pressure to K. Walk, but he can put the team over the top with solid play that CMG has seen thus far.

Speaking of Gottfried, I hope he can be the key that gets the team to New Orleans. I feel that they got him that far last season. It still will have to be a team effort in order to survive the SEC and get to New Orleans. Florida Who?
