yards this season?

my money is on Tim Castille. mainly because of how well he catches. the coaches really seemed to like running screens to him in '03. i don't see that changing this season. TC 850 rush 330 rec

Ray Hudson will also get a lot of yards this season. Most of his will be on the ground, however. He is soooo fast!
RH 950 Rush 90 rec

i'm excited about Ken Darby, too. we haven't gotten to see that much of him, but, from what we did see, he has a knack for making long runs. he cuts really well. i don't think he'll get all that many carries this season, though... barring injury. *crosses fingers* KD 350 rush 30 rec

I got money that says Hudson and Darby both beat your receiving yards estimation for the season.

After the way Hudson caught the screen pass the last couple of games, and with his speed, I sure hope we incorporate that play a good bit this season. I think all our backs can produce great, let's not forget about LeRon either, I hope he gets to get a few carries a game also.

IMHO Ray Hudson on paper has the most potential because of his blazing speed. Which allows him to catch passes out of the backfield along with the occasional screen pass. He creates headaches for the LB's because they must keep an eye on him the entire time and think twice before committing to anything.

Castille will break rushing records at Alabama, but only in due time.
I know the coaches say they want to "put the best players on the field", but seniority will dictate carries, and thus...yards.
I do; however, believe that the O-Line takes it up a notch when certain guys carry the ball, and I've got a feeling that'll be TC.

McClain, Darby, Castille, and Hudson in ascending order of all-purpose yards in 2004.
None will rush for over 1,000.
Why?
Passing tendencies of coaching staff will hurt the O-Line's cohesiveness in the run game, and screen passing to the backs will reduce total "rush" yards for Hudson and Castille.

I hope I'm wrong about the 1000 yds., and Alabama is tops in the SEC on the ground, but....we went 4-9 last year, and CMS never budged on his philosophy of 'throw first, punt later'.
The passing game is still another year away from really clicking...hope I'm wrong about that, too.

thanks for all the responses, guys. i agree... i have understated the receiving yards for Hudson and Darby, but my sincere hope is that the running game will go so well that the majority of the receiving duties will go to the receivers (and TC who has already proven to have soft hands).

I would like to say, though, Ray Hudson is one of the fastest RBs to ever play for the University of Alabama. I hope that he gets in the open field as often as possible. He turned it on in the Auburn game last year, and i'm eager to see if he can carry that fire on over into '04.

I think Hudson will have the most yards -- mostly from the run. Darby will be a close second. Castille will be a little behind, but will have more receiving yards. All will contribute in their own way.

thats a tough question. if castille gets the carries id say him. none of our backs can catch like castille. darby and hudson can catch but are nothing like castille. people tend to forget castille was all state at w.r. as an 8.9.10th grader i think. but i dont think we can go wrong with these backs this year. darby is a very punishing back and if he stays healthy i think he'll be the starter.

It's not just Castille's ability to catch the ball though, it's what he does after. Hudson may be faster but Castille is tougher to bring down, especially with a DB. You better bring a linebacker, or 2.
