Yeah, I was at that game (87 or88?). Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe it. The only points we scored was a TD on the second half kickoff. Even more embarrassing, we did not complete a SINGLE pass.

The Northern Illinois loss should not be included. They actually rose to #12 in the nation that year and had a great team.
without question, the loss to ULM is the worst in recent memory. The La Tech loss in '97 would be a close second.
I was at all of those originally mentioned, plus the '87 Memphis St game. They were all pretty darn pitiful. The Memphis game was probably the most shocking because it was the first of the really stunning losses. It really rocked my world, because Bama just wasn't supposed to lose to any team--especially a team from other than a major conference. Actually USM in 80 or 91 at BDS was I guess the first of the lot and was really a shocker. To me UCF wasn't so bad, because it served a purpose. It brought about change--the ouster of DuBose! I've mentioned on here before that during that game, which was truly a pitiful display, I found myself pulling for a UCF victory, because I knew that such a loss would bring about DuBose's departure.
I'm hoping that Saturday's shocking loss to ULM will bring about significant change in the hearts and work ethic of our players. If so, it will have been worth it.

The LA Tech loss in 97. If I remember correctly it was homecoming. I remember sitting in my room at Rose Towers sulking big time over that one. What was even more embarrasing was the fact that Terry Bradshaw's comment the next day on the FOX NFL Show...something to the tune of "I'd like to give a big shout to my alma mater Louisiana Tech for putting a whooping on Alabama yesterday." Not saying he didn't have a right to, but that stung.
I agree with this one. I was at that game with my wife and kids. Pure misery. Was a long, wet ride home.
Even though the 1999 game against La Tech was bad, we beat #3 Florida at their place, and won the SEC Championship. As some have suggested, it could have cost us a chance at the national championship.
I think the game against La-Monroe is the worst, especially given the way we have played in a couple of big games this year. I guess none of us expected this sort of thing could happen with a coach like CNS.
One thing about this thread really grabbed my attention (that I knew, but hate to be reminded of) -- boy, we have lost a lot of games during the past decade.

I don't get to go to too many games in Tuscaloosa, and I was witness to the UCF, N. Illinois, So. Miss, and ULM games. They all rank in the "Embarassing" column. None of these losses are better or worse than the other.
Somebody said something about N. Illinois not counting b/c they ended up being ranked - they looked and played like a high school team that day. The only problem was that Bama played like a high school JV team. We essentially lost b/c of a blocked PAT - that's pitiful.

Hands down the 1999 La Tech loss, not even close. For obvious reasons, Alabama had the horses to take them to an SEC title and BCS Bowl game. That loss was simply inexcusable. The other upset losses were not big surprises for the simple fact Alabama was mediocre/terrible/attitude probs/all of the above.

Had we not lost to LA Tech in 99, we WOULD have played for the National Title. The only other loss was to a very good Tenn. team which had won the national title the year before.
The UCF loss seemed to be so much more than just an upset at the time.
To me at least, it ripped away the last remaining shred of mystique that was The University of Alabama Crimson Tide. From that point on we seemed to be just another football team to all future opponents.
The University Administration in power at that time along with plenty of help from Mike Dubose practically destroyed in four years what had been accomplished in the preceding one hundred!
And today, seven years later, we're still trying to find our way back and this most recent loss to ULM shows just how far we have to go. :BigA:
