I have to admit that sometimes these gimmicks fail, i.e. the Bulldog "Blackout". I think the Penn State fan base did a great job pulling this one off. Looks like everyone bought in. Not too many green or pink shirts in the crowd, the TV shots of all of the white shakers looked awesome and the level of noise was top notch. This added alot of excitment to the contest. Those attending the game also posted about the great treatment they received at the game as well. This was football at it's finest.

I watched on TV and the stadium looked very impressive. Good to hear that their fans treated everyone so well. I was impressed to hear Paterno say how well they were treated in Tuscaloosa and asking them to do the same for Bama. good people.

All the talk about there fans is true. They were so gracious that I actually felt guilty for rooting against them. How many fanbases will actually congratulate you and thank you for coming after they lost to you? I just can't say enough about them. I want to gio back to happy valley just to cheer for them.

I know what you mean. I lost count how many of their fans came up to welcome us to Happy Valley. We went to the local Waffle Shop Saturday morning. Counting us, there were only 4 crimson shirts in the place, but they treated us like royalty. One fan gave us a premium parking pass. Two fans invited us to their tailgate party. On the way to the car after the game we heard, "Alabama has a great program", "Thanks for coming", "Travel home safely", "Bama has classy fans", etc., etc. I seriously cannot believe just how gracious they were.

I watched on TV, too, and the white-out was very impressive! But (and it made me proud to be a Bama fan) all that white had a LOT of crimson mixed in! Thanks to the fans that could make the trip! We were well represented!

I was amaized at the friendly psu fans were to me. I got to my seat early and one by one I was surrounded and each one shook my hand and told me they were glad that. I made the trip. We joked about my seat location and I paid $272 for my ticket and was right on the 40 yard line so close to the bottom.

Penn State has been doing this for a while, though. Joe Paterno didn't just "think it up" on a flight back from Arizona, like Mark Richt did prior to the Alabama game in 2008.

Mark Richt said the Seniors on that Georgia team asked him to do the "blackout." Looking back, that game may have been the beginning of the end for Richt...

That blackout actually looked really good in 08, but it didnt help them on the field. From a looks perspective though I can't call it a failure. From a result perspective it was nothing but one.

The White out as always, looked great.

I thought the 2008 Georgia Black out was much more impressive looking. You got 99.5% participation by all of the Georgia fans. Walking around at Penn State and looking around during the game, other than the students, about one out of seven or eight would have on a dark Penn State jersey or shirt. Obviously neither worked out for the home team.

The "S" in the student section was much cooler looking in person than on TV.

I thought it was ironic that PSU was doing the "white out", yet, the Bama uniforms were all white.

Agreed. If they really wanted to do a "white out" they could have pulled an LSU and worn their white unis at home. The home team gets to choose...
