Good post. You're probably on the right track. Just about every fanbase wants to believe that their staff is recruiting the right way and others are shady. But some of the big themes of Saban's recruiting have come from recruits' own mouths, and have been too numerous to be isolated incidents:Just a thought with some of these guys. They might not like Saban's hard-nose approach. I wonder if that's why some like the Luper/Trooper show at Auburn and Richt at UGA. Think about it, it's a totally different environment. Some kids have no desire to push themselves like Saban will push them. I find it hard to believe anyone from the "what are you going to do for ME, it's all about ME" camp would have any desire to play for Saban. Richt is so desperate he'll take any attitude as long as there is talent with it. Just look at their arrest records through the past few years. And I won't even go into the towel-waiving Trooper and the slick talking Luper. Saban is night and day to both of those "shows".
--Saban stresses academics more than most
--He doesn't promise playing time
--He doesn't bad-mouth other schools
--He doesn't sugar-coat the amount of work it's going to take to succeed
--He makes it clear you have to earn your playing time
It's pretty clear Saban and staff are singing a different tune from many other recruiters, and that's not always going to be popular. He might lose some recruits over it, but that's probably also partially by design. He wants guys who know how it's gonna be, and are OK with that.
