Just a thought with some of these guys. They might not like Saban's hard-nose approach. I wonder if that's why some like the Luper/Trooper show at Auburn and Richt at UGA. Think about it, it's a totally different environment. Some kids have no desire to push themselves like Saban will push them. I find it hard to believe anyone from the "what are you going to do for ME, it's all about ME" camp would have any desire to play for Saban. Richt is so desperate he'll take any attitude as long as there is talent with it. Just look at their arrest records through the past few years. And I won't even go into the towel-waiving Trooper and the slick talking Luper. Saban is night and day to both of those "shows".
Good post. You're probably on the right track. Just about every fanbase wants to believe that their staff is recruiting the right way and others are shady. But some of the big themes of Saban's recruiting have come from recruits' own mouths, and have been too numerous to be isolated incidents:

--Saban stresses academics more than most
--He doesn't promise playing time
--He doesn't bad-mouth other schools
--He doesn't sugar-coat the amount of work it's going to take to succeed
--He makes it clear you have to earn your playing time

It's pretty clear Saban and staff are singing a different tune from many other recruiters, and that's not always going to be popular. He might lose some recruits over it, but that's probably also partially by design. He wants guys who know how it's gonna be, and are OK with that.

I agree.

Don't we want CNS to more or less weed out the weak. Not many years ago we had a coach (CMS) who would take anyone with talent regardless of character or work ethic. Remember going 7-6 CNS's first season? Why? Some of the upper classmen couldn't take what CNS was dishing out. I won't call names, but the initials DJ remind me of that situation. Think of some of the traditional powers in college football who would love to have the talent on campus that Bama has and who would love to have CNS also. Life is good at Bama.

And to anyone worried about the barn, don't. We all know they can't sustain success, and everyone knows the unthinkable only happens in 3s. '09 was obama, '10 Saints won SB, '11 barn wins BCS. The only thing crazier that can happen is an asteroid destroying the earth. Besides, some lucky (or unlucky) team may or may not profit when current barn recruits transfer in a year or two when the axe falls on the barn.

Be happy. We are ALABAMA!

This recruiting situation here is so good. If we get LOI from the so far committed, I will look with much anxiety toward the immediate future. If we get any more commits, then it's just icing on the already beautiful cake.

The ones that are really serious about "me" in being the best they can be at their sport and position will choose a coach like CNS. The kind you were referring to, where "me" is "look at me" and "I deserve it on past performance" need not apply.
I know the good players can get a pro contract from any school but the NFL coaches LOVE players coached by CNS (especially defensive players) because they know they are well coached and disciplined.
I get disappointed when a recruit coveted by our coaches choose another team but I consider it their loss and know our coaches will get someone who "wants to do what it takes to prepare to be champions".

Right now, I'll be happy if we only close with Cyrus. I just don't have any evidence that suggests we get anyone else. But that's fine with me, I only want kids that WANT to be here. And guys like Clowney and Crowell, I want them but we don't need them. We will win NC's with or without them.

Absolutely. The reason Marquis and Kareem were drafted higher than a lot of other DBs is they already understood their roles at the next level better than most other guys not coached by CNS.

How do you think Bama will finish up on National Signing Day?

From all of you, will Bama finish with a frenzy or fizzle on nsd?

re: How do you thinkl Bama will finish up on National Signing Day?

It would be difficult and bordering on absurd to look at this class and call ANY finish a fizzle given the caliber of talent we have on deck. It's always easy, particularly with Scout, Rivals, etc. ranking each team to turn recruiting into its own off-season micro-game. However, the REAL competition is on the field. What's important is how this class boosts our roster's depth and how much closer it puts us to repeating a national title. In that context, I think we'll end up where we need to be, regardless of how we finish. Yes, adding studs like Clowney to the final tally would certainly bolster our already strong ranks and, yes, it's certainly fun to compete over recruiting rankings, but it's also important to keep things in perspective and not become angst-ridden just because we didn't have a present to open on Christmas Day, as it were.

Well said. Regardless of how we finish I have complete faith that the players we sign are the best players available to compliment the roster and contibute to becomming champions. If Bama doesn't sign another player this class is top 10 as it stands right now. I'll take that every time.

If I understand correctly, even if we finish with ONE more of the 5 stars on the list, BAMA will have another number 1 class. Gotta say that's a heck of a recruiting year indeed. Would be good to have a couple of good surprises as well, but will be happy however this class turns out right now.

bama will have a top 5 class regardless of site you look at, there is no way that can be considered a fizzle. ITS A PERCEPTION ISSUE!we had this class almost wrapped up in october, and havent added many since, over the past week, auburn who only had 13 commits has had room to add a lot in a short amount of time, same with UGA. people are hanging their heads cause they fell like our class isnt good, but its packed with talent, and the three or four most important recruits are enrolled as we speak. Unfortuanly for us, no one, really covers recruiting heavy until the season is over, so the most recent commits are getting the most pub. for instance jox just interviewed an aub writer for 30 mins about a 3 star DE, we have only like 2 three star players in our class. SEC schools are going to recruit well, that just how it is, and it doesnt help that kids from the south are slightly overvalued as much as the teams in the conference (sue me for saying so). Its best to realize it, evaluate what we have, which is as good a class as weve had since 08, and get ready for Aday.

I thought we'd finish top 5 as well (and maybe 1-3), but Scout bumped us to #6 today. With other teams getting ready to sign more players will we stay in top 10 if we don't sign anyone else????
