Re: Is anyone going to the NC game in Cali?

I live here in LA and would love to go to the game and I'm trying to find a ticket, but since I got laid off from my job it's going to be tough to find a ticket that doesn't cost a fortune. The best bet is to stay close to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena if you can and rent a car to drive around. Pasadena has a ton of great restaurants and shops so staying close is always wise. Or you can catch a bus to the game which is always an option and alot of Hotels offer this....parking is a nightmare at the Rose Bowl....trust me on this one.

I have my flights reserved (me on award ticket, wife on Companion Pass) and am waiting to hear today from the University whether I am going to get my tickets. If not, I am going through a travel agent who has a package.

Re: Is anyone going to the NC game in Cali?

Longtime Longhorn fan here...great site, by the way...and if you have never been to the Rose Bowl (or in this case, the events surrounding it) alol I can say is GO! I went to both of our recent trips out there and it is, without a doubt, the best run, the most fun and easiest trip to make of any bowl game.

It doesn't have to be terribly expensive. The first year (Michigan game) I went the "no expense spared" route. The NC game, I went the cheapie route. Obvously, had more fun on the cheapie trip.

If you can afford it, make sure that you go out early for the Parade. If you've never seen it in person you will not believe it. So much better in person than on tv.

For ticket info, go to the Rose Bowl site and they will guide you in making all your arrangements. One of the reasons I am so impressed with The Rose Bowl is that they make it so easy for you to order Parade tickets, parking, etc. and even if you don't do the actual Rose Bowl festivities, this site will give you lots of information about the game, parking, etc.

If possible, fly into Burbank. Much easier than trying to navigate LAX and the attendant car rental and traffic. Smaller airport w/ less problems. It is only a twenty minute drive to Pasadena, all by freeway that is not confusing, and I stayed in Burbank on both trips.

There are cheap hotels (albeit very clean and nice) in the Burbank town proper. Just look around and you can usually get a rate of under 100. a night. Beats the asking price of 400-500 a night for the hotelos that the teams are staying in. Most of the time those are also downtown LA which makes getting anywhere a hassle.

One bit of advice...remember that the game is going to be on a workday which means that the LA freeways are going to be crowded regardless, so plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to get into Pasadena. For the NC game we got to the Rose Bowl early that morning after stopping at a grocery store and stocking up on easy tailgate items (items for deli type sandwiches rather than trying to do any actual cooking) and had the best time of our lives.

Go and enjoy yourselves. You're going to find the Texas fans are as welcoming as I have heard Bama fans are. You'll enjoy us. You'll also find that the Rose Bowl experience is so different from the other bowls that you are going to be sad that you won't have the chance to go every year.

Looking forward to a great game with no injuries to anyone.

Thanks for the advice. I've never been to California, but thanks to a good friend, i have free tickets. Roll Tide!

Re: Is anyone going to the NC game in Cali?

I'll be there if I have to sleep at the airport. I made my airline reservations Sunday. I've been checking on hotel reservations, and it looks like the hotels are booking up fast. Does anyone on this board have any suggestions as to where to stay?

I'll be there. I have my flight booked, and am staying with a friend in LA. Now, all I need are the game tickets for a reasonable price. Easier said than done.

I live in San Jose, will be driving down south (5 or 6 hours) with an RV full of friends and family.

my buddies are going with me to celebrate the Tide 'cause they know how much i bleed Crimson..:BigA:

most likely will be tailgating outside the stadium and/or watching the game from one of the cool bars around Pasadena. I was there when Bama came in 2000 to play UCLA. HOPING FOR BETTER RESULTS!!:rolleye2:

Tickets - Rose Bowl reservation site. Formerly First Dibz. We got our reservation the night before the UTC game. I believe the site is now closed and tickets will be mailed out the 15th.

Flights - went straight through American Airlines site. Used some vouchers

Hotel - went straight through the Courtyard Marriott site about three weeks ago. Make sure you check back often as there may be a few more late cancellations from UF fans.
