Bill Oliver followed closely by Ken Donahue. Could easily be the other way around. No one come close to those two but coach Kines gets an honorable mention

I like Kines the person but not impressed with his defenses - They caved in the 4th - seldom stopped a team when it was crunch time. I like the persoan, really glad he still works for Bama but really glad he is no ivovled with coaching.I almost forgot how much I admire Coach Kines. I'm not saying Kinds is the best DC I remember but I do think the reason his defenses seemed to cave in the 4th quarter were because the Offense simply couldn't move the ball and the D was called on time and time again to make a stop. I have never seen the amount of heart that are D has shown over the last couple of years.I like Kines the person but not impressed with his defenses - They caved in the 4th - seldom stopped a team when it was crunch time. Ken Donahue or Bill Oliver
I never saw much heart/desire/determination from the defense - ANY time a defense NEEDS to stop an offense from scoring it is because the offense didn't score enough points - Doesn't matter if it's USC, Patriots or AlabamaI'm not saying Kinds is the best DC I remember but I do think the reason his defenses seemed to cave in the 4th quarter were because the Offense simply couldn't move the ball and the D was called on time and time again to make a stop. how many points does it take...? Auburn beat LSU without scoring a TD - was that because the offense was super that day or because the defense shut down LSUCoach Bryant swore by Ken Donahue, that's good enough for me.
To suggest that Shula's offenses scored enough points to win every game is just ridiculous. If his offenses had of been as good as Coach Kines' defenses, he'd still be our HC and we wouldn't have lost 5 in a row to the boogs.
I'm not saying he's the best ever either, but, in 2005 when he had talented seniors on the field, they were special. See Tennessee, or Florida for proof. To say you never saw heart from them is ridiculous. again see Tennessee.I never saw much heart/desire/determination from the defense - ANY time a defense NEEDS to stop an offense from scoring it is because the offense didn't score enough points - Doesn't matter if it's USC, Patriots or Alabama
the offense moved the ball up and down the field - did not produce enough in
the red zone. However the offense scored enough points to win every single game.
I don't recall many 'reacting' defenses winning championships it almost always an attacking defense that pressures the offense that wins.
I like Kines & respect Kines but did not like his defense
In regards to the others mentioned it's not even close but I like Kines ther person more that I do Bill Oliver.
