Who would be your pick for Alabama's best player for each of the last six decades?

I'm probably forgetting some I'm sure but off the top of my head:

60s - Jordan (Namath perhaps)
70s - Oh man, I'm going to go with Ozzie but there's Hannah, Stephenson, Woody Lowe....
80s - Thomas
90s - Samuels (he made me think I could run behind him and gain positive yardage)
00s - Ingram? But Cody to me was a beast
10s - Henry (Fitzpatrick, Mosley, Ridley, Cooper, an abundance of riches)

Your picks?

Your picks?

60s - Joe Namath
70s - John Hannah
80s - Derrick Thomas
90s - Shaun Alexander
00s - Mark Ingram
10s - decade ain't over yet, and this one is too close to call

My personal experience with Alabama started in the early 90s. I'll go with:

90s - Samuels
00s - Ingram
10s - AJ or Barrett Jones (if I had to choose between them, I would go with Jones)

So many great choices. This decade will probably be the most difficult to single out one player among so many.

Having said that, there's no way not to consider AJ McCarron. Not the most exciting, but nobody embodied the process perhaps the way AJM learned it. Counting his ring from '09, his rings from ''11 and '12 will never be forgotten. Many consider the '10 team to be the most talented that didn't win a championship, but that set the table for '11 and '12.

I'm partial to AJ because I always really like him and got to witness those wins over LSU and ND in person. I will say I never felt more proud of an Alabama team than I did when we beat ND the way we did in 2012.

1960s: Pat Trammel
1970s: Tony Nathan
1980s: Derrick Thomas
1990s: Shaun Alexander
2000s: DeMeco Ryans
2010s: Jonathon Allen

I went against the conventional wisdom on most of my picks.

60s - Joe Namath
70s - Newsome
80s - Derrick Thomas
90s - Palmer
00s - Julio
10s - Will likely come down to Cooper vs Tua

Agree with Palmer. 92 NC team was basically incredible defense and David Palmer. (could have plugged in virtually anyone else on the offensive side and outcome would still be same.)

60s: Jordan
70s: Hannah/Cook
80s: Bennett
90s: Samuels/Langham/Palmer
00s: Ryans/McClain/Ingram
10s: Cooper/B. Jones/Tua

60s -- Lee Roy
70s -- J. Hannah
80s -- D. Thomas, by a nose ahead of Bennett
90s -- Alexander
00s -- Julio by a nose ahead of D. Ryans
10s -- Still TBD. Today, I'd go with B. Jones. Tua or Jeudy might have something to say about that before 2019's over.

I wasn't around in the 60s, either, but I know who the Beatles were.....

I do want to give another shout out to Woodrow Lowe and Leroy Cook for the 1970s. Too often when compiling these lists, we often conflate their Bama time and professional time. Cook was a two time All-American and was SEC Defensive player of the year. (I feel the same way about Cornelius Bennett in the 1980s- the man was an All-American his sophomore, junior, and senior years,

Lol..... I get your point to an extent. But anyone can easily find Beatles music to listen to.... not just studio albums but Live tracks, rarities, and outtakes.....literately almost everything recorded.

Whereas with college football it's VERY difficult to find footage from the 60's and 70's. You might find a game here or there or a few highlights but you'll never find anything close to every snap.

I would feel disingenuous listing a player of the decade for the 60's or 70's.... I know WHO the best players are according to other older Alabama fans.... but I didn't get to see them....much less hear them (radio play).
