Who’s leading QB1 race in FALL practice?

ok, so Milroe starts , plays up and down most of the year but we are undefeated And make it to the national championship(not a beer) game. At halftime we are getting handled pretty easily. So out trots true frosh Dylan Lonergan who lights it up and brings us back to tie it. In the second overtime he takes two sacks and on 3rd and 37 he wins the game. Who starts next year? And what does Sayin do? How many hit the portal?
I don't know the answers to your hypothetical questions, but I will take any scenario where we win the championship. We play to win this year. We'll worry about next year next year.

What I don't understand is why we didn't play Jalen in 2018 against Clemson? It was obvious that Clemson was baiting Tua into throwing long and disguising their coverage on the long passes. Plus, Tua was playing with a surgically repaired ankle.

It would have been poetic for Jalen to lead the team to a NC over Clemson...
I agree. It was obvious we weren't going to win with Tua (no knock on him, just the way the game was playing out).

I thought it would have been better to give Jalen a shot earlier in the game.

I think Jalen really epitomizes what being an athlete and teammate are all about.

yeah, clempson had Tua figured out. Who knows what could have been? To date it is the only game I turned off and went to bed.

Wait, you don't think Lonergan's redshirt is incinerated by, say, Sept. 30?

The question was to you and why all the support you're throwing around for JM.
Why such confidence in? Especially based off past performance.
I don't look at it as JM being the "starter" this Saturday. He's just first man up in the audition.
I just hate seeing him get bashed, when he hasn't played a down yet this season. I have nothing against the other quarterbacks. I hope they all do well.

I'm not caught up on this thread because I'm traveling but sounds like this is not AJ vs Simms. Milroe will start and game flow will dictate when a 2nd QB comes in.

This seems to be the order.
1. Milroe -wow plays but inconsistent especially in the redzone?
2. Ty - some wow plays too but inconsistent
3. Buchner - manages the offense well but weaker arm and struggles throwing deep? Not used to an offense with 3 and 4 wide at WR

That's a bunch of hypotheticals. While I like having a Plan B and C, I don't think you can't make decisions today based on that many future iffity ifs. You just tie yourself up in knots.

If we can get just average play out of the QB position, we have the makings of a playoff team. Let's play this year and worry about next year next year.

Would not have mattered. They had your play calls, and the defensive line to make that matter.

I never thought Jalen's passes were bad. He always seemed to pass ok. But he got where he simply wouldn't pass, when he should have. Instead, he'd take off running. And defenses knew it.
His passes weren’t “bad”; his willingness to take off too quickly was. I remember a spring game where JH threw what looked like a touchdown pass but, to me, the receiver kinda short armed it and it was about a foot too long. I don’t think the issue was ever that his passes were bad; just that maybe he was too scared to throw a pick and ran instead. He’s obviously resolved that issue with experience but it didn’t happen quickly at Bama. And he had a ton more experience compared to what JM has had at this point in their times at Bama.

I will say this of Milro, coming off the bench having never played QB1 before is one thing, feeling this was your job all spring and summer and working to make it happen is another. I expect he is going to be better than he showed last season. the question is how much better and is it enough to keep the rest of the guys on the bench.

A coach brought in to self scout our team leading up to the game later said that he had never seen a team so self-certain -- players and coaches -- leading up to that game. Sorry I don't have more specifics, but from what I saw that rings true.

You're probably right, but I kind of hated seeing Jalen come in for what was literally just trash time.

I know it was about letting him see the field one last time at Bama, but I felt bad.

You nailed it. He threw a nice ball he just didn’t trust his reads easily. Tua and Mac got that part easier. Jalen has overcome it and is absolutely great in the NFL and he was good his last year at Bama and then OK. He will always be a favorite of mine because of how he handled losing the starting job. Guy is a class act and hard worker.

According to Jase McClellan, whoever the quarterback is needs to be physically tough. Here's what Jase said:
“Our identity is being physical on offense. Something that we are focused on is having balance passing the ball and running the ball. We want to show people that Alabama is still the standard.”

I don't see people really bashing Milroe.
People are just stating what they have seen from him in the past and based on past history these are the issues they possibly see with Milroe as starting qb.
Like others, based on past evidence, I can't see him ultimately being our starter.
However, if the young man has made lots of progress and shows he can lead this team and play well then thank GOD.
What most of us are simply saying is that the proof is in the pudding.
