Who’s leading QB1 race in FALL practice?

Simpson had a good day. Much of the day he went against the 1st string defense and held his own. Buchner was good as well.

Who was better…. I’m split. Because TB is far more confident under pressure while Simpson is better when he gets in a rhythm
Did you get a chance to see the practice? I'd love to be able to go watch them................unfortunately distance and my job keep me away

That sounds a lot better to me than what I have read elsewhere...I'll take your review and talk to my source (!) tomorrow!

I've thought based on recent reports leading up to today Milroe was the guy. But based on what people said today I'd guess Simpson with Buchner still having a shot.

I know nothing 😂

My personal opinion… if Milroe starts every game then we lose 4-6 games. Our receivers are just not going to do us any favors and people are going to play us like they did Hurts in 2017 sell out for the run and dare us to throw. Milroe just is way too inconsistent.

I think Ty is probably the best option if he has rhythm and confidence throwing. However I’m just not sure how consistently good he can be.

Buchner is very consistent and very poised under pressure. However his timing is off sometimes and it could be very bad when it is.

Lonergan…. Hard to really say. He did have the only TD vs the #1 defense. But I’m just wondering why he isn’t getting much time with the #1 offense if he is a serious option.

Neither do I...........one source says this one is bad and that one is good, another says the opposite............I have to rely on this site for my news
The one constant I am hearing is Buchner had a good day today. No, I am not saying he should be anointed as the starter based off of that. It just seems to be the one constant I am hearing amongst all the "insiders."

Thank you for the updates! My fear is Saban and is gonna be loyal to Milroe(because he's been here longest) the way he was with Jalen over Tua in 2017.
That's my thinking as well. If Saban is totally truthful and no guy is really showing themselves to be exceptional then I think Saban will always default to the guy that has at least some experience running the Bama offense so I think Milroe takes the first snap.

I dont think Saban will do it............after the end of 2017, he really had to see what that got him. There was a near mutiny, and if that were to happen again and receivers dont get the ball, the transfer portal calleth

As I have posted before, I think its chaff to confuse

My perspective is...

Milroe does have the respect of his teammates. He was given the opportunity to run 1st team offense against 2nd team defense. This gave him the best opportunity to improve and solidify his position as QB1. It doesn't appear this has happened. This team will not win any hardware with a jailbreak offense.

Simpson was actually put in a position to toughen up gain respect of his teammates running 2O v 1D. Not sure that has happened. If anything he has allowed TB to pull alongside of him. They both need more reps running 1O v 1D to see who have best command of the offense.

Buchner has the advantage of working with CTR. He is an unknown to his teammates. But he has used to his limited time to catch up and make the QB race competitive. Given his progress I think he is the odds favorite to take and hold the starting position this year.

The receivers need to be read the riot act and to eliminate the drops. This team goes nowhere if they don't reliably catch the ball.

If you watch the highlights of Milroe he looks like a Heisman winning QB. However, if you look at all the video available he is still inconsistent. If he starts, I will have to increase my cardiac meds. I still think Buchner has a good chance of starting.

If Lonergan wins the starting role now then we likely lose Sayin who they may already believe is a good as Lonergan is now. Likewise him winning the battle likely puts us in the position where we lose 2 or upperclass QBs to portal. Such that you are left with Lonergan, Buchner, and maybe Holstein and rebooting on 2024 QB recruiting.

Saban isn't going to not start a guy for fear of losing a future QB. He's going to play the guy he thinks gives us the best shot at winning.

But based on everything people are saying it probably won't be Lonergan at least not game 1

He has only had about 2 weeks practicing with the team, so to be where he was today says something about his ability to adjust and play. Two more weeks of practice before game 1 could pull him ahead of the competition if he continues progressing and processing at that rate.
