If Finebaum is thinking of recent history with Tua, Mac, and Bryce and saying our current top 2 QB's don't compare with those guys he may be correct
Add Jalen to that list as well. There aren't many instances of college teams having that kind of run of QB talent. So a drop off is inevitable. I just don't want another Blake Barnett situation where the guys looks great until he's thrown into the fire.

If we are talking Blake Bennett stuff it'll be an aberration from recent times. I may be wrong and only time will tell, but I believe we've entered an era under CNS where we will have always have better than average up to fantastic QB play every year.

Go back and look at the QB recruiting since about 2015 or so (around Tua's class). It's been pretty stellar every cycle. Ty Simpson was a 5 star. Sayin is a 5 star. We've got 4 star guys running deep into the depth chart!

I'm not going to worry until we have to start talking "game manager" descriptions and even then, QBs like Coker and AJ say hello with sparkling NCs rings on their hands.

Both QBs aren't exactly lighting up on the field. Lot can change between now and fall camp. I'm waiting for that "light bulb" to go off. With Milroe, He can get us through first few games this fall, but when it's time to play SEC game, We better come up with something because Milroe can't read the whole field. Simpson is thinking too hard at this point. I think we need a experienced QB from portal that can soften the blow if things doesn't go well. I heard some chatters about Miami QB, but I'm not going there. I think it's just a rumor.

I just don't think we should be expecting much different news than what we are hearing. These are two QBs who have never got very many reps up until now (more true for TS than JM).

As I've been told by someone who knows more than me, CNS runs practices during the season kinda like the NFL model. After fall camp he narrows down to roughly 40 players or so and they are the ones who get the reps, which would roughly be 1 and 2s on the DC. However, with the QBs, apparently QB1 gets the vast majority of reps during practice and that would mean QB2, aka, Jalen Milroe (last year) probably didn't get many live reps during the season up until BY got hurt. No wonder he looked so rusty the next week. TS, being QB3 last year was probably running scout team and certainly was not getting many live reps during the season.

Rising up to the level of being a top notch QB at the major collegiate level is a tough ride and every great QB has to struggle to get thru it. I think both of these guys are at the struggle point. This will probably have to continue through fall camp and as many have said possibly the first game or two.

CNS following the NFL model has been a criticism of him since his first year -- even by people close to the program. I don't see him changing...

Game two is Texas - that offense is going to be potent, imo. They were giving Bama fits until QE was knocked out last year and still required heroic efforts by BY and Co to pull out the W.

IOW, I really don't know that we can afford to plan on figuring things out in the first few games...

There are still issues in the locker room. That's another story for another day.

As far as the game went...

Ewers was knocked out in 1st quarter. Card was the backup qb. Only reason we struggled on offense in that game was because of lack of creativity and OL wasn't blocking well. That game should've been won by 10, 15 points.

This time, this is in T-town. We should be able to play well at home.

Not trying to downplay what Texas did that day but honestly that game gave me auburn in Jordan hare vibes. That crowd was rabid, and Texas just fed off of that. Combine that with Bob/Pete doing Bob/pete things and a 11:00am kickoff. We probably should have seen it coming.

The unfortunate thing about that Texas game was after the McClellan 70+yard touchdown run we couldn't replicate anything remotely close to an effective running game. I don't think this game will even be close because this year's offense will be able to control the LOS and bring a lot more physicality to the game. I also think Rees' nack for using a ton of formations and motion (unlike BoB) to confuse the defense will make this game much, much different than last year's.

Hopefully so, outside of ole miss in 2015 where the football gods just hated us. Teams have either had to be National championship participants/winner and/or had a Heisman winner playing the game of his life to beat us in Tuscaloosa since like 2008.

When he ripped that off I thought we were off to the races on offense.

There is speculation that Arch is already a bust out there, so we will know who their starter is right off the bat............I think by that game all cylinders will be firing

Sark already named QE as the starter - they don't need AM to be a starter yet.

And while I think it's too early to call AM a bust, I've been saying for the last two years that if his last name was anything other than 'Manning' he'd not be a 5*.

Their fans are saying they think he is a bust...............based solely on his spring game performance. A bit harsh for an incoming freshman, but the name alone pushed the expectations into low Earth orbit.............he has alot of ground to make up with them

The expectations for him were and are absurd.

Well, they are Texas fans, so….
I never get over the hysterical fans who basically demand incoming freshmen QB’s to start INSTANTLY performing like Tom Brady in their first college spring practice, and if they don’t they’re a bust.
QE was highly rated coming out of HS- this is, what, his third year of college ball? Even from what we saw last year, expecting ANY freshman (even Nico) to come in and automatically unseat him is beyond unrealistic and unreasonable.
I’m not sure AM wants to play second next year (unless he gets redshirted and I don’t see that happening), but I doubt there’s going to be any grumbling from him this year.

I agree. I also think Arch has the discipline to work and wait his turn. To me that may be his best asset.

Sark may play it right and not push him into a position of failure.

Time will tell.

This is on a couple of sites now. I just don't see it.
This is why fans are fans and Nick Saban is the GOAT.

No way Saban brings in an unproven QB who might or might not be available. And if he is, it’s only because he’s whining about his NIL deal. Then Saban is going to start him over Milroe and Simpson (who have their own NIL deals) and who have 3 and 2 years in the system, respectively??

Please. My two cats could come up with a more plausible set of circumstances.

If they’re trashing UTw fans about calling Arch Manning a bust after 4 months on campus, and following it up with this garbage, I feel sorry for these guys.
