Imagine being 25 and playing 18 year olds. You don't think that makes a difference?

Stetson was a good to very good college QB. That's fine. But he definitely wasn't elite.
I would say that a 4 time playoff MVP with back to back national titles and Heisman Trophy finalist has established himself as an elite player.

I could be wrong...you could be wrong.

what are you even talking about "4 time playoff MVP?" do you mean for individual games he won the MVP? That's not even a stat I've seen anyone ever quote for anything.

Also, again...see my Eli Manning comparison or Joe Flacco for that matter

Or better yet see AJ McCarron. Loved AJ but I don't think most people ever considered him "elite" and certainly wouldn't today I'd think. AJ was very good! but elite? nah.

He was the MVP of all the playoff games in the last two years.

You know, how like Bryce was the MVP of the Cotton Bowl this year.

They name an MVP of the playoff games.

Bennett was the MVP of all the playoff games he played in.

And if Joe Flacco had been the MVP of two straight AFC Championship games and MVP of back to back Super Bowls I think many would consider that elite.

My guess would be that no one considers Flacco elite because he didn't do enough in his career for anyone to consider him elite.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought performance is the measuring stick for success.
I'm not trying to meditate in this discussion, but I believe you see the results and others are seeing the source of the results.

Georgia, to their credit, put Bennett in a position to succeed. Now, for such a punky little guy he's not bad, but they put him into a system (especially last year) where he was surrounded by success with a great OL, backs, wide receivers and, hands down, the best tight ends in football.

I don't think for a moment Bennett could have gotten the same results in our dysfunctional offense last year. Perhaps the true definition of elite is what BY was able to do last year. Elite, chicken salad performance despite the situation around him

So are you ready to put Bennett in the same conversation as people like Watson, Young, Tebow, Lamar, Newton, Burrow etc?

Because those are the type of QBs i think of when I think of Elite college QBs.

We may just have to agree to disagree here. I think Stetson became a good college QB maybe even very good. But I don't see how anyone that watches college football could watch him and consider him a truly elite QB.

I agree with @BamaMoon on this one.

Not putting a whole lot of stock in anything Paul Finebaum is saying, but who would we want off of this list outside of maybe Williams or Drake???

I put zero stock in anything out of ole Paul's mouth. He is a good interviewer, but in the end he is just a pot stirrer. Always has been from his early days at the Bham Post until now. Other that interviews his show is a Jerry Springer show for sports radio.

Give TR a little more time - like four months- before anyone starts crowning PF as the most astute sports journalist in the country.
Only thing PF is good at requires a funny hat and a big spoon.
I've heard all this before. Bama is dead put them in the ground. They haven't been right yet what makes anyone think they are right this time? Who will replace AJ, who will replace Coker, who will replace Tua, and now who will replace Bryce?

Someday it won't work out for Bama at QB, but since 2009 it's been working out so I will just keep trusting the guy in charge until he fouls it up, but I don't expect him to this time either.

The brilliance of Finebaum is that he knows nothing about football yet has made himself the guru of the SEC by pitting Alabama and barn fans against each other on a radio show in Birmingham. You are correct about being a good interviewer and he comes across with intelligence. But he knows squat about football and anything he puts out about it is click bait.

The upside is if Finebaum is right and we don't have a QB then we probably get 3 years of Sayin as our starter which i support

He is not right but sure can ruffle the feathers. We can win with all the QBs we have on the roster right now and the winner of the race in the Fall for QB1 will get the job done nicely. We are giving Milroe plenty of opportunity to get the job due to his uncanny athleticism and speed but we have 3 dudes behind him that can absolutely spin it. We gone be aight.

So I must have missed the big news that Bennett was given another year of eligibility and transferred to Bama and that is why he is being discussed in this particular thread.
If he was able to he'd win the starting job and probably have a lot of people changing their tunes.

I think a lot of people refuse to give him his due because he's a snotty, sotty little jerk who was the face of the team that knocked us off our pedestal.

Saying a guy is a good to very good college QB is giving him due though. His best season he had 29 passing TDs. That's just not elite in any way shape or form.

For comparison - Tua had 43, Mac had 41, Burrow had 60, Caleb Williams had 42.

Sorry promise I'll drop it now lol

I guess you quit smoking in a day, huh?

It could simply be that it was never a problem, per se, in prep football due to his sheer, physical talent and that old habits are hard to break...
It was the first analogy that came to mind. It isn't perfect but it does, at least, somewhat track as a habit that is hard to break...

Fair enough on the analogy

Not sure why you’re so passionate about TH IV, but cool…
That was a two person conversation and the other dropped…thinking we’re done here. JMHO😁

I am really not either I was just kind of throwing that out there that if worse comes to worse I could see Saban making a bold move. I would like to say that I remember last year in the pre-season everything sounding like sunshine rainbows and gumdrops and we saw what happened. So I really don't take much stock in in pre-season "analysis."
