We seem to be coming together at the right time. Still have flaws and are probably not a championship-caliber team. But are playing much better than I thought we were capable. I didn't see this coming and am glad to have been wrong.

After two complete in South Carolina, BAMA is down 3-0. Reily is pitching. In the first inning she gave up two walks, but with two outs gave up a three run dinger.

BAMA had first and third with 2 outs, but we struck out on a pitch a foot over her head. We had a base hit to left earlier and I thought Murphy would send the runner, but he held her. I thought she could have scored easily.

Now, with BAMA coming to bat in the top of the third, it's lightning delay time. That was at 6:12cst, so we can't restart before 6:42cst, assuming there is no more lightning.

It's game 3 in Carolina. BAMA took a 1-0 in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Briski got two quick outs, then, thanks to a very poor umpire, walked the bases loaded. That was followed by a single up the middle that scored two. Then Vandagriff misplayed a fly ball to CF that scored 2 more. (should have been the third out). Briski was replaced by Johnson who promptly gave up another single that scored run number 5. Johnson then gave up another single before she got a ground ball out to end the inning. After 2 complete it's 5-1 South Carolina. The umpire behind the plate really messed Briski up.

Top of 3rd. BAMA gets a one out double from Johnson, followed by a single by Heivilin to make it 5-2. Fly out to LF for out #2. Giles flies out to CF. 5-2 Carolina going to the bottom of the 3rd.

New pitcher for BAMA. Hodges in the circle. Gets a K to start it off. Infield single for SC, 1 on. Ground ball to second, out at second base. We had the double play, but bad throw to first by Hawkins. 2 down, runner on first. Strike out to end the inning. 5-2 SC going to the 4th. We need a big inning.

BAMA goes down quietly in the top of the 4th - pop up, K, ground out. Not what we needed to get back in the game.

Bottom of 4th: line out to 3rd, walk, pop up to 3rd, walk, runners at 1st and 2nd, 2 down. single to left, run scores, 6-2, single up the middle, run scores, 7-2. Every person we walked today, has scored. Plus, SC has done all of their scoring with two outs. Extremely timely hitting. Pitching change for BAMA. Winstead coming in. Gets a K to end the inning. Now 7-2 SC.

Top of 5th. Lead off ground out, then Vandagriff doubles to CF. Johnson grounds out to 2nd, Vandagriff to 3rd, 2 down. Ground out to SS, no damage by BAMA.

Bottom of 5th. SC leads off with a double to RF. Now, lightning in the area, so at least a 30 minute weather delay. Hopefully we can just finish this one up today.

BAMA has a good team, but not what you would consider an "up to BAMA standards" team. We're good against weaker teams, but just average in the SEC. Our hitting is better than last year, but for the most part not good enough to be a top SEC team. We occasionally get a little crazy and have a big inning, but those don't happen very often. We have some young players so maybe it will get better next year. In the circle, if our top pitchers are not having a good day, things don't usually go well. We've got more talent coming in next year. Maybe that will help. Right now, I'm just hoping for a good showing in the SEC tourney so we can host a regional. Maybe we can find some lightning in a bottle from there.

Just not mentally tough. There is no "fire". Any pitcher with a decent change-up will kill them.

We shouldn't be 10th in the nation.
No disagreement here but 10th in conference is pretty dang bad.
Coach Murphy seems to be the Les Miles of big time college softball.
Win a championship doing it a certain way and the game changes but you don't and it passes you by and you hang on by a thread because of that one time.........
Jim Wells in baseball had the same problem. When the NCAA made it harder to play gorilla ball be couldn't/didn't change and the program went downhill.

I remember telling a UcheaT coworker when they moved on from Fulmer- their program just seemed "stale"-he brought up the fact, "he won a Natty ten years ago!!" But it just didn't feel right when you looked at the direction of the program. I thought coaching staff shakeup, bringing in Kayla Braud, we might see a Coach Bryant 70's type run after 2-3 "down years". Still love Murph, but 10th place in an even tougher SEC is hard to swallow. Top 5-6? I could live with that with an occasional SEC ring and a deep run in OKC is where the floor for UA softball should be.

Braud is his best assistant he has and she in only in her 2nd year of coaching. We need new pitching and hitting coaches. His support staff is loaded with yes people. I don't have a problem with giving ex players positions in the program, but when they don't move on to better jobs. Something is wrong and he needs to cut ties with them.

A new hitting coach isn't gonna make a difference as long as Coach Murphy's philosophy is that one big play is gonna win all these games. Other teams have figured out that stringing hits together and getting runners on base and getting singles and doubles to bring them in works a lot better and demoralizes the other team.
Murph just wants the home run.
Watch them when they bat. Majority are strikeouts and pop outs. Waiting on a pitch to drive.

After one inning at the SEC tourney, BAMA is down 1-0 to Auburn. Briski gave up a dinger in the first inning. BAMA got the lead off on in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't do anything with it. Going to the second inning.

Top of the 2nd. Briski looking sharp with 2 K's and a ground out.
Bottom of 2nd. Giles leads off with a single. Hawkins doubles, Giles scores. Duchsherer singles to left, Hawkins to 3rd. K by BAMA, 1 out. White pops up in front of the plate, ball drops in. Duchsherer out at 2nd, 2 down. (she couldn't run as the ball should have been caught). Valentine grounds out to 2nd. BAMA ties it at 1, but should have put up a crooked number.
1-1 after 2 complete.

Top of 3rd: lead off single for Auburn. Pop out to the catcher, 1 down. Out at second on the steal attempt - great throw, 2 down. Strike out to end the top of the 3rd.
Bottom of 3rd: Johnson leads off with a single. Heivilin triples to right center, Johnson scores, 2-1 BAMA, no outs. Ellestad grounds out to first, 1 down. Giles walks, 1st and 3rd, 1 out for BAMA. Hawkins flies out to deep left, Heivilin scores, 3-1 BAMA, 2 down. Duchsherer grounds out to SS, inning over.

I don't know why Auburn does this. After every pitch, the catcher runs the ball all the back to the pitcher. With a runner on 3rd, the first baseman runs in and covers the plate while the catcher runs the ball out. Either their pitcher can't catch or the catcher can't throw, but why they do it, I don't know. The pitch clock doesn't start until the pitcher gets the ball so I don't know what this does except wear out your catcher.

Top of 5th: Ground ball to Briski, 1 down. Ground ball off of Briski - to Hawkins, out at first, 2 down. Walk by Briski. Single to RF, runners of 1st and 2nd, 2 down. Fly out to foul territory in LF, inning over. No damage.
Bottom of 5th: Johnson flies out to CF, 1 down. Heivilin flies out to the wall in RF, 2 down. Ellestad grounds out to 1st, inning over. 3-1 BAMA. We need more runs.

And, this Auburn catcher running the ball back to the pitcher after every pitch is getting old.

Top of 6th: Lead off walks. Single to LF, 1st and 2nd for Auburn, no outs. Fly out to CF, runner tags. 1st and 3rd, 1 down. Pitch in the dirt, runner takes 2nd. Pop up to shallow left. Runner scores. 3-2 BAMA. Runner on 2nd out trying to take 3rd. Alabama now challenging if the runner left 3rd early. Ruling upheld. 3-2 BAMA, going to bottom of 6th. If we had any kind of timely hitting we would have more runs on the board.
