Why do we struggle so much to throw the football?

A.J. has completed 67% of his passes for 2,400 yards, with a TD to INT ratio of 16:5. Those are far better than Greg McElroy did as a Junior in 2009. Keep in mind that A.J. is a sophomore and has not had a dominant WR like Julio Jones to work with. I am very pleased with the passing game this season. It surpassed what I expected. I think A.J. will continue to grow at the position and I expect even more next year. If Alabama can find a big-bodied WR to help him out more, I think he can be tremendous over the next two years.

JD, you've summarized it as well as anyone. By trying not to put AJ in a position to fail, they're also limiting the possibilities for spectacular success on his part. From what I've seen, it's the best way to handle him. I just see no evidence that he's equipped yet to be a more dynamic QB. I think you can forget "gunslinger" in a CNS-approved offense...

I don't think this point could have been made any more clear after watching yesterday's game. The offensive game plan was the we had to be successful throwing the ball, we committed to it, practiced it and even created a couple of new wrinkles. McElwain and CNS finally put our passing offense in a position to be successful and the team responded accordingly. Very, very well done by the entire offensive staff and players. We can be effective that way and would love to see us do a little more of that.

There were a few times yesterday the WRs didn't run sharp routes. Rounding off route breaks instead of squaring them off. It gives the DB an extra step in closing.
