Will the committee decide to leave Ole Miss out of the playoffs? Head coach is gone. Major pieces of staff are gone. Some players may be gone. Will the committee leave ole Miss out and cut its own throat? Imagine how the SEC would react if Ole Miss and Alabama are left out. Neither Vandy or Texas get in. Some teams with strength of schedule of 70 something are moved ahead.

If Alabama is left out after a sec championship game loss, then the sec championship game should be retired. No way Ole Miss gets left out
Especially after they bounced us for SMU last year because they didn’t want to punish a team for playing in a conference championship game. If they’re allowed to use something against us one year and then reverse course the next year when we could benefit from it we have no complaints in the future when the committee simply says “We don’t like Bama so we’re not including them in the playoff”.

My crystal ball foresees that the SECCG will be gone within 2 years.

The reason I asked is trying to figure out if there is any other incentive besides a trophy for teams to participate. If they got a big enough paycheck, that would help with nil money. Otherwise, this game has become an extra burden for teams needing rest for the playoff run in my opinion.

If they want to keep the championship games for the revenue aspect, then perhaps they need to tweak the tournament and announce the seeding before the championship games and just leave the championship games completely out of the equation...leaving some semblance that the conferences are actually somewhat separate and independent like what happens if a team decides to just not participate in the championship game rather than risk another loss...i'm sure the committee would penalize the team but it would certainly generate a lot of conversation about the process were that to happen

I can't find any information about a payout for making the SECCG using Google. The only thing I keep finding is revenue sharing for the entire league, which is split evenly between all teams. The SECCG is a big revenue maker for the league, so losing the game would cut into that revenue sharing some. How much, I can't find that answer.

Here was the payout for CFP appearances last year:

SEC: For 2024-2025, the SEC will give $3M for each team participating in a first-round game, $3.5M for the quarterfinals, $3.75M for the semifinals and $4M for the National Championship, plus travel expenses for each game. https://businessofcollegesports.com/college-football-playoff-payouts/

What I find interesting is that if you earn a first round bye, you make less money than a team that plays a first round game and still makes the championship game. In my head, earning a bye should be worth more than playing a first round game.

If this happens and sankey doesn't go nuclear on the CFP committee, he needs to be fired.

Folks, let's be honest:

Florida State was never going to make that playoff in 2023 once Alabama defeated Georgia.
The committee simply opted for an out because their criteria made that possible.

We can argue it's fair or unfair, but let's be honest, the committee rankings were a damn joke anyway.

Go back and look at the week before the SECCG in 2023:
1) Georgia
2) Michigan
3) Washington
4) Florida State
5) Oregon
6) Ohio St
7) Texas
8) Alabama
9) Missouri
10) Penn State

Washington beat Oregon a second time, so the Ducks fall.
Alabama beat Georgia and had only one loss - to Texas.
Michigan smoked Iowa, 26-0.
FSU beat Louisville, 16-6.

"Their quarterback is hurt" - IN MY OPINION - was poppycock, nonsense, garbage plain and simple. The CFP simply wanted an SEC team in there and when they could add the NAME of ALABAMA to the playoff marquee, this was a done deal.

Don't get me wrong, I honestly do believe Alabama was a better team than Florida State in 2023. Our defeat of Georgia elevated Texas (the only team to beat us) and lowered UGA and FSU.

I can completely understand their shock, anger, and disappointment.

But Florida State won a national championship in 1993 they had no damned business playing for, too, so things even out over time. Nobody is second to me in their loathing of Notre Dame, but the fact is that that 1993 national title game SHOULD HAVE BEEN Nebraska vs West Virginia.

And why did FSU get in the Orange Bowl instead?
Because they had (wait for it) the name that would draw money.

You know.....the same reason 30 years later Alabama made the selection over them.

You can't be "for" these things only when it works in your favor.

I think the game generates tens of millions (maybe more) for the SEC coffers, which is split between all 16 schools. It's not an insignificant amount, and that reason alone is why I doubt we see it go away.

If anything, the conferences will band together and demand that conference championships losses not be considered by the CFP - but I cannot see them giving up the cash cow.

The CFP field should be picked THIS week...championship games should not be considered. This makes it even...so independents with Gold helmets can be compared to actual teams playing in conferences. No one gets to sit home and gain from good teams beating each other one more time

Each team gets a 1/17 share of the revenue generated from the game... 😎
The two teams that participate receive between $100,000 and $200,000 for travel and related expenses. Last year the Championship game generated $14.5 million which was split among all conference teams. Participation would be a selling point to recruits and fun for participating players. I don't see it going away. The league will not be willing to give up the 14 million in income each year, and all teams get an extra million for their athletic program.

You are right, but it's got to have more of an incentive for these teams to chance injury, losing, exhaustion.... The narative these days has shifted from conference champsionships to "making the playoffs and ultimately NCG. I see a time that they will be forced to eliminate it unless they can give a better reason for it.
