Will Shula gamble?

I wish Shula would play a more wide open game but how can he? I love every single player as much as the next big fan but our QB play has been horrible most of the time.

Hard to play a wide open passing attack style game when your QB struggles most of the game with consistency.

I would not expect and razzle-dazzle EVER from Shula. He is not that type of coach. If given enough time, he will field teams that are not flashy, intoxicating, or even interesting... they will be quite boring as they win championship after championship.

Let those with 1 or 2 NC's go for the show, let's just keep our deal real and build our program and win many many games.

Last week's plan

can win it. If...we don't have horrible field position to start every drive. It'll be very inportant to get decent position on kickoffs and punt returns. Make a couple of plays that we missed or the refs took from us, kick field goals, and make a few breaks. When Auburn played LSU they were stifled yet won. Ole Miss played them closer than the score...it was close at end of the 3rd quarter. Our D can keep it close, I think SP will start, Guillon may play some, and Prothro will take a few more snaps.

Although I think that there are still some out there thinking that the staff is still holding back some of the playbook and not wanting to show our hand yet, if you are waiting to see that hand I hope you bring your lunchbox.
;)

We had winning gameplans against both Tennessee and LSU but mistakes ruined them. Limit the drive-killing penalties and turnovers and we have a good chance to win.

Oh, and hopefully the refs won't wear blindfolds... :rolleye2:

First, we have got to stop the penalties at the worst possible time. We scored a TD last week and had to take it off the board and settle for a fieldgoal. We made mistakes like that against UT, LSU and others and lost those games.

Do you want to know why Tubby and AU are undefeated? Because Tubby has strayed from his "Riverboat Gambler" reputation. His usual patented "gambles" are usually good for a lose or two every year. I still have confidence in Tubby to do something completely ignorant and lose a game yet.

We must remain confident in Tubby's ability to screw up.

That's one thing Shula has in common with Kines. Players beating players, not depending on scheming to win.

we are gonna have to gamble to win. you cant expect a defense to get you scores when they are on the field for three quarters of the game.

Ahem, check out some stats. Our offense has been controlling the clock in most games this season.

You would have to go all the way back to the South Carolina game where Alabama didn't controll the clock.

vs So. Carolins 26:00
vs UK 41:05
vs So. Miss 34:31
vs UT 33:56
vs Miss St. 31:02
vs LSU 31:26

That doesn't look like our Defens is on the field 3/4 of the time.

Gambling

I hope Shula opens it up and throws a lot of deep passes. Rogers and Rosegreen could use a couple more INT's to improve thier draft prospects. I think they should run a couple recievers across the middle also. That seems to work well.

Carlos Rogers has to be THE most overrated DB in America

the guy has what, 2 INTs this year? Wow. That's really dominating. His hype is a product of the Auburn Sports Information Dept and nothing more.

I don't think Auburn will play for the NC because I don't think they can jump ahead of OU. As such, if they play a team like Cal, I'd expect Aaron Rogers to shred the Auburn secondary. Auburn has yet to face a good QB this year. Unforutnately, they won't face one on Saturday either. And please spare me on David Greene. He's been incredibly erratic all year.

so i was wrong :) but whats our record in those games? 3-3? a conservative offense will only get you a record like that. with a #1 defense we should be dominating, but its hard to dominate when the offense puts you in bad situations.
