With UTx and OU joining the SEC, what does the conference schedule now look like?

The state of Texas is stocked full of recruits. Now Texas is in the SEC if they start cherry picking the top recruits they will be a tough out. So because of available talent I look for Texas to do well in their new home. As far as Oklahoma, because SEC teams will hit The state of Texas hard for talent. Oklahoma may have a harder time getting top level talent from there. I look for Oklahoma to struggle some in the SEC. They can’t be very successful just recruiting the state of Oklahoma. There are not enough players.

Surely they wouldn’t give us the toughest schedule every year and act like it’s fine…
Could we drop this "the conference office hates us" nonsense?

It's the flip side of the yutzes who say, "The SEC offices are in Birmingham" to make it sound like we have some say we don't in officiating during games.

The SEC offices were in Bham when we got socked with multiple probations, too. And when Fulmer went Fire Marshall Phil on us.

well the old SEC commish did hate us and people still think it exists. or do you actually believe 2010 was just a coincidence? or that tennessee almost always having 2 weeks to prepare for us was a glitch in the schedule? The SEC hate doesn't exist anymore but damn sure used to exist.

I would be perfectly happy with permanent opponents going away. Some teams just don't have a true rival in this conference.

Texas has had all those people and all that talent - and all that money - for all these years.

And they've still been nothing more than Auburn.

Yes - Auburn.

In fact, Texas despite:
a) being the state axis program (like Alabama)
b) having 6 times as many people
c) playing in a much less challenging conference(s)
d) having all that money and pushing conferences around like a barroom brawler..

has been LESS SUCCESSFUL than Auburn since 1987 (David McWilliams's first year);
Texas 280-144-2 (.657, one national championship)
Auburn 292-147-5 (.658, one national championship)

In fact, you can take this back a number of years prior to 1987 and Auburn will still have the better record against tougher competition.

What I'm saying is that Texas THINKS they're in the Alabama group of teams historically - but at least for four decades, they've been Less Than Auburn. And with zero due respect to Auburn, they're nowhere close to Blue Blood status.

Texas couldn't win when they whined and crippled every other team in the SWC.
Take away the Vince Young years from them and they're basically Dooley's UGA team without Herschel.

Human nature isn't going to be changed.
They'll still find a way to screw it up.

They are the Stacks Edwards of the SEC mafia family.

Oh whine whine, my God....some people think the Loch Ness Monster exists, too.

It doesn't matter what I believe or anyone else.
And wasn't that rectified as a result of that?

Key phrase "used to exist."

Alabama fans - hope we aren't gonna have the toughest schedule every year
Non-Alabama fans - hope Alabama don't have an easy schedule like every year

Same. Due the full rotation, everyone goes everywhere if they stay four years as Saban said.

I'm good with that.

I wasn’t implying UT would be the new kingpin of the SEC. Just think they will be better than Oklahoma. Mainly based off recruiting.

I understand that.

I'm just saying that they've had all these advantages all this time and haven't done jack with it.

I see where you're coming from, I just don't think the orange uterus is going to miraculously change back into Prince Charming just because Evel Knievel once scored with Kate Upton, either.

If you are comparatively the 4th place team in the West, then Texas would be behind Alabama, LSU, and Auburn duking it out with A&M, Ark, OM, and MSU who are interchangeable on any given year. Honestly, I see a budding rivalry between OM and Texas hearkening back to the 60s when both thought they were bluebloods...

Anyone know when the SEC is going to hammer out division makeup (or no divisions), scheduling and details for the 2024 season? Are we going to a 9 game conference schedule? Gonna be an interesting offseason for sure.

I read an article earlier today (if I can find the link, I'll post it) that Sankey says this will be decided and announced at the Spring meetings at Destin later this month.

It's pretty much a given that divisions are gone. The decision now is whether they do 8 games with 1 permanent rival, or 9 games with 3 permanents. Either way, it will allow all schools to play one another in a 4 year cycle.

It would be easy to keep the 8 SEC games with 2 rivals and a rolling 6 game series that plays every other team except 1 in 2 years. You can sort the teams any way you want for games, as you're playing 14 of the 15 other teams every 2 years.

Teams #GameTeamYear 1Year 2Year 3Year 4

From reports it seems we are staying with 8 games in 2024 with one permanent rival. Or it’s trending in that direction. Apparently 1/3 of the SEC bottom schools are against the payouts of the 9th game and a few are against the proposed format.
We all knew they would screw it up.

So who is tennessee's permanent rival? Vandy or Kentucky?

Personally I’ve never been really on board with going away with divisions. The most sensible thing would be move Alabama and Auburn to the East and Mizzou and Vandy to the West and go to a 10 game conference schedule with 1 P5 and 1 G5 schedule. It would pretty much keep all your main rivalries and allow a decent rotation with some uniformity. Yes you make the East a juggernaut but it solves many problems.

I don't hate the idea. Looks like a fairly balanced league but would need to keep Vandy in the East since there would be 2 additions to the West:

LSU - Alabama
TAMU - UGA
UTX - Barn
OU - Gators
Ole Miss - Ucheat
Hogs - UK
MSU - USC
Mizzou - Vandy

Still, having two heavy hitters in the same division complicates the league championship game. Going to a 12 team playoff would still mean the best teams are in but still, I prefer no divisions and best two play for the league title in Atlanta.
