Thorne has been somewhat better the last few weeks, although they haven't been playing stellar defenses.

Hunter has been given more carries and is a huge dude.

They do have a defense that can play.

Just hoping they find a way to lose to TAMU and we take care of the business.

Right about that. My point is that that’s THE game. Win it somehow and you’re set, regardless of what happens the rest of the year.
True. They could go 1-11 for ten years running, and so long as that one annual win was against us, they'd build a statue to the coach.

I think this weekend's score will be telling. If aTm boatraces the barn, it'll be clear that Freeze sacrificed that game, spending the week preparing for us -- exactly what he did ahead of last year's New Mexico State game.

If it's competitive, he prepped for aTm, and therefore has only one week to prep for us. Plus, of course, whatever Bama work he might have shoehorned in during the course of the season.

Given the mindset of the barn PTB and fans, you can't blame him.

He's also looking at being bowl eligible. He can't not prepare for A&M if that's a consideration.

Not to besmirch anyone but if you think an SEC coach will skip a week of preparation on an opponent such as A$M, you may have lost touch with reality. This simply just doesn't happen. Of course concepts, blitzes, plays, etc that coaches feel will work down the road have started to be installed, repped, and looked into, but it is almost impossible to play another quality SEC team and not put in an entire week of game prep. The game is played at such a high level and with so many subtle intricacies that it just can't happen.

The truth is, Awbarn doesn't practice in preparation for Alabama for months and that is their secret sauce. The truth is, the Iron Bowl is Awbarn's Super Bowl and they play it with maximum effort and focus. Saban said on CGD a few weeks ago that he had a "hard time getting his guys up" for the Iron Bowl. Most years, Bama had the SECCG the following week or a playoff run coming down the road. Awbarn had the Shreveport Mud Bug Bowl waiting on them. Bama players have had a sense of entitlement and look at Awbarn as second tier, which we can attribute to how we as fans talk about them. The reality is, we aren't world's apart in size, ability, and talent. Our OL is 6'5 320. Their OL is 6'5 320. Our MLB is 6'2 230. Their MLB is 6'2 230. Point being, they recruit over there as well. Many of them, we fervently went after to come to Bama and they didn't for whatever rea$on. When someone who is talented faces another talented player, the winner is usually the one that gives the greatest effort and executes. Our guys need to take the Iron Bowl as seriously as Awbarn does. If we do, we won't have to miraculously have a 97 yard last minute drive or a 4th and 31 TD conversion.

Largely agree but Freeze also apparently wasn't part of game planning for their bowl game last year so can't really assume much with him LOL

Major college head coaches have an extreme variation of levels when it comes to game planning, coaching positions, and coordinating sides of the ball. Bobby Bowden towards the end of his tenure did very little of any of it. Much younger coaches also do the same. Some are great organizers, delegators, and fundraisers. Schematically they hire smart energetic guys to do the X's and O's and get their proverbial hand in the dirt with the players.

Titles aren't always what they appear to be.

Great example is the 2019 LSU National Championship Coaching Staff:
Steve Ensminger held the title of OC. Joe Brady was the WR's coach. Brady called the offense and plays.

2013 Tennessee Titans is another example.
Jim Gray was the DC. Gregg Williams was the Senior Defensive Assistant Coach. Gregg Williams called the defense and ran the show.

I was mostly making a joke lol. Also I think it is clear that Freeze was hired because of his offense so not being involved in game planning for a game and then using that as an out after a loss is just embarrassing.

I still can't believe he said that out loud; trying to avoid responsibility for an embarrassing showing.
Don't believe I would have told that.

I took it that way but was just making a point. Freeze is not above making an excuse for his lack of success if you haven't noticed. He will never let the truth get in the way of a good story...

It would be pretty awbarn of them to pull an upset this weekend and give us hell the next week but this team doesn’t seem to have “it” so they might just stumble to a 4-8 season

I just don't see them coming into Tuscaloosa and making everything go against us in our own house like they do when the game is in voodoo land. That being said, Bama can't assume anything. If we play like we've been playing of late, or even close to that, we should beat them by the usual Tuscaloosa IB margin
