In 2017 I would find it very doubtful that CNS was looking past Auburn. Auburn was a 9-2 team, with a close loss to Clemson the second game of the season and a three point loss to LSU as their only conference loss. Auburn had just demolished a good Georgia team a few weeks earlier so it was more than clear they were capable, particularly at home, of beating us. Plus, a loss to Auburn meant Auburn was heading to Atlanta, not us.I think he did. 2017 was a perfect example. He saw the way it was going. He knew that auburn beating us and then turning around and winning a rematch against a ticked off Georgia squad the very next week would be a tall order at best. And once Georgia trounced them in the SECCG, Bama was a shoo-in. That's why the performance in the IB was laughably bad that year and yet, we went on to win it all
Agreed. I can assure all of you, Nick Saban NEVER overlooked a single opponent on the schedule. Attention to the most minute details is what separated him from the pack. It isn't in his DNA to jump ahead and assume anything. Now if you are considering early scouting and knowing intel on your opponent before the week of the game, fine. I have seen the books he had his underlings on the staff make during the Summer on every team on the schedule and he definitely had knowledge and things pre-arranged ahead of time. But as far as having the team watch film, his staff game plan, etc. it would have never happened under Saban. In 2017 I would find it very doubtful that CNS was looking past Auburn. IMO, the 2017 loss to Auburn was based on one thing: Kevin Steele absolutely schooled Brian Daboll and CNS was too stubborn to pull Hurts.
Steele and Auburn made a decision. Hurts would have to beat them in the passing game, not with his feet. They played press man defense on receivers, jammed, grabbed, held and mugged them (thanks to SEC officials) and gave Marlon Davidson and Derek Brown along with 6 or more in the “box” all the time in the world to pressure Hurts and stuff our run game.
It was clear to me by middle of the third quarter, given how that game was unfolding, the only chance we had was to beat them over the top or in the intermediate passing game with Tua.
Saban sure never wanted to skip the SEC championship game. Winning the conference was one of his top goals every season.Agreed. Not at all. They seem to be in free fall.Would it surprise anyone if Auburn loses this weekend to Louisiana Monroe?
Bryant Vincent's Culture > Hugh Freeze's CultureNot at all. They seem to be in free fall.
But ULM is average and several rungs below SEC quality and I suspect the Barn will beath them handily.
Is LaMo any good this year...?Would it surprise anyone if Auburn loses this weekend to Louisiana Monroe?
I wouldn't go for $5. Now offer me $50 and a free adult beverage and you're on!Apparently, Freeze isn't the only person who may be miserable in Auburn because I just noticed that I can get a ticket for their game this weekend for $5. Any barner who has never made the trip should invest in that steal of a deal.
Yeah it’s a much better situation playing in T-Town than their Voodoo Burial ground but we still can’t take them lightly. We cannot walk into Mordor, I mean the Iron Bowl, with a sense of entitlement.
We need to arrive prepped and ready to commit football murder. Expect the kitchen sink, stuff they haven't done all year, and the scripted storm.
He never coached in the 12 team CFP era.Saban sure never wanted to skip the SEC championship game. Winning the conference was one of his top goals every season.
I like the way you think.I wouldn't go for $5. Now offer me $50 and a free adult beverage and you're on!![]()
Yes, but, Saban would have wanted to play. He might have made a snarky comment about how the new playoff model is reducing the importance of winning a conference championship etc. but he would play it. And likely win it.He never coached in the 12 team CFP era.
While you are correct. That auburn team was 8-3 with nick marshall heading into that iron bowl. This auburn team is staring down a real possiblity of being 4-7 when they come into tuscaloosa.Yeah it’s a much better situation playing in T-Town than their Voodoo Burial ground but we still can’t take them lightly.
Their 2014 team had no business hanging with us and jumped all over us and it took everything we could do to beat them.
They are always dangerous… for us.
Sshhh!Bama learned a longggggg time ago after Mal Moore took control of our football program,..
If you allow your good Ole Boy's(Boosters), too run your football program, it's a recipe for disaster & the money people will kill your football program like we're witnessing right now in Lee County..
I'm not going too lie I love watching The Barn waller in mediocrity & hope the money people remains in control of Auburn..![]()
