Link: *** WR Michael Bowman Commits to BAMA ***

Main reason, yes, but the Bowman family didn't really endear themselves with the UGA faithful.

Georgia Officials Hassle Adarius Bowman's Parents

Anytime you pick up a prime time athlete, it's a good thing. But is Michael Bowman and his family really the kind of people Nick Saban wants hanging around the team and university? I mean what happens when Bowman doesn't play consistantly due to some off-the-field problems, will his family wear say Arkansas gear or Florida gear, or whoever Bama is playing at the time. Plus I don't like the fact that Bowman pick Alabama to spite GA, not because he wants to be at Alabama.

IF Bowman gets to Alabama, and we all know that's a big IF, it wouldn't surprise me if Bowman transfers out of the school by no later then his sophomore yr. I hope I am wrong about the young man, but his character is totally of of whack with previous talents that Saban has recuited.

I don't see this story as indicative of the Bowman's being bad people. If my son was playing D1 football for a school like OK State, and I was attending a game in which he was playing, I'd be decked out as well. So what if Georgia was the opponent and they were hosting?? If they had any decency at all -- and wanted my other child to play for them -- they would understand and overlook it. However, Georgia did not do that, which should be indicative of how Georgia treats potential recruits.

Knowing what we already know about Michael Bowman and UGA (their refusal to offer him without acceptable test scores), this story should come as no surprise. Georgia obviously only views Bowman as a so-so athlete, other wise they would be willing to take the chance on him.

I have met people like this before. Instead of making you feel welcome and wanted, they make you feel like you've been extended the privilege of attending a game on their dime, and thus you must heed to their whims. To me this is simply an example of UGA feeling like they have the pick of the litter. Can you see Nick Saban and the University of Alabama doing something like this to a potential recruit?

It's all a matter of class. I hope, hope, hope that CNS handles things with the kind of class that his most prolific predecessor did. As CPB used to say, "Act like you've been there before."

What the heck are you basing those opinions about Bowman's character, that he may not make it to Bama. and if he does he will transfer early? I hope it is not just that the parents wore OSU colors to OSU/UGA game while on an official visit? If Michael Bowman and his parents are good enough for CNS and Coach Bobby Williams then they are good enough for me.

Your post could be considered unfair criticism of a Bama commit. That is definitely not tolerated on this board.

Alabama lands out-of-state wide receiver
Michael Bowman, Scout.com three-star wide receiver from Ridgeland High School in Rossville, Ga., committed to the Tide as he witnessed Alabama freshman wide receiver Julio Jones haul in five catches for 66 yards and one touchdown in the win over the Hilltoppers.

The 6-foot-4 prospect placed all of his cards on the table to Georgia head coach Mark Richt in hopes of receiving a scholarship from the Bulldogs. One has not arrived at this point, and Alabama is the great benefactor.

Absolutely....

CrimsonBleedRed, those comments won't be tolerated, again....period.

Bowman is a huge pick-up....he only needs "2-3 points" (per himself) on the ACT to qualify and has been preparing for it for months, now. He's a kid that could be the "physical stature" match of Julio.

Georgia's loss is our gain, here....and we got mom's approval this past weekend.....sounds pretty intelligent, IMO.

Is he really "the" top WR from the state of GA?

Yes, Bowman really is 'the top' WR from the state of Georgia and the 17th best WR in the country according to Rivals.com. I thought that he was the best WR in GA before he committed to Bama when he was a heavy UGA lean. I got that impression from watching his film and reading about his camp and combine performances, especially his Tuscaloosa Nike Camp performance.

Scout.com says Bowman is fourth best WR in Georgia and the 101st best WR in the country. They rank the top four Georgia WRs as follows: Jamal Patterson #15, Stephen Hill #34, Braxton Lane #46, and Michael Bowman #101. You could argue that Patterson is the best WR in Georgia but I definitely do not think that Hill or Lane are better and I am certain that there are not 100 better WRs in the country. In this situation I agree with Rivals over Scout.

I for one am excited about this one. This guy was an absolute Georgia lock (and we know how well Richt has sewn up that state), and we stole him. Sure we were his second choice since he felt spurned by Georgia for not offering him, but I just hope it comes back to bite them if we play them in the SECCG some day in the future. RTR

This has been mentioned before but I'll say it again...This goes on a lot with high school recruits. The recruit grows up a big fan of a certain school and in their heart they really really want to play for that school but don't get offered and then they wind up making the next best selection. So, what if he wanted to try everything to get another good look from Georgia...He really wants to play for them! If he can't then he goes for the next best thing. What is so hard to understand about this? Who would not do that? Stop talking about this young man like you have any idea what's going on in his life. And this crazy stuff about him leaving once he gets here, OMG! I guess if Georgia didn't offer him he should just hang up his shoes, it's over he doesn't want to play anymore:conf2:
You guys that are criticizing him for having to picking his second best choice, which just happens to be Alabama, need to take off your crimson shades and stop drinking the kool-aid. Let me tell you a little secret...not every recruit is a bama fan (shhh I know) and we may also have one or two players on our team that really wanted to play for another school but couldn't. Stop the nonsense JEEZ!! :mad2:
Now Roll Tide!
Again Welcome to Alabama Mr. Bowman!

In an interview after his commitment Michael Bowman said that he is firm with his Alabama commitment. He also said that he would not accept a Georgia offer if they offered him later on and that he and his family love Alabama and he is happy with his decision.

Smooth is right, did you see the one hand snag in the video? Now that is what I call hands. I would describe his route running as fluid.

Four-star WR commits to Alabama
Rossville (Ala.) Ridgeland WR Michael Bowman gave his word to Alabama this weekend, he told Sporting News Today.

"When I went there I just loved it," Bowman told SN Today. "They told me everything I needed to know, like everything about what it would be like in college and after college. I just knew that's what I wanted to do. I actually knew all along that this is where I wanted to go."

Here is an article from just before he committed to Bama. It has some good quotes from his coach. I get the feeling from some other stuff I have read that his coach is upset that Georgia did not offer him and that he wanted him to wait on a Georgia offer. The recent quotes from Bowman and his Mother are very different than the quotes from his coach. I get the impression the coach may be a Georgia fan. He has not said that but that is just a feeling from other quotes about Bowman that I have read from him.

Four-star WR starting to take visits
Mariakis has been impressed with Bowman's maturation process, too.

"I think Michael is just now, over the past year, becoming that elite receiver everybody thinks he is," the coach said. "Physically, with the height and strength and speed he has, it makes him dangerous. He's learned how to control his body and understand routes and the passing game. ... He's going to be a great player in college."

His family was supporting his brother. This is not rude in anyway not every kid goes to the same school and if Georgia were smart they should have invited the Bowmans for a different game. As for you questioning his character, everything that I have read suggest the opposite of your worries.

Good story in the Chattanooga News Free Press on how Coach Saban completely blew away Bowman's mum.

Thanks for posting. I particularly liked the following quote:

The receiver also made it clear that as far as he's concerned, the recruiting process is over.
“I feel great that it's over,” he said. “Now I can concentrate on getting my grades right and finishing school. I'm done with recruiting. Even if Georgia offered now, I wouldn't take it.”

Sounds like a smart man if you ask me.

Got to be honest, while his potential excites me, I am pretty blase about his commitment.

I read the Chattanooga Free Press article and the quote sounds favorable, but I've seen too many instances of a recruit saying something similar and then flipping after his dream school does offer. Josh Chapman for us from auburn, Ricardo Wright and the db from Texas/Florida to FSU from us are some recent top of the head examples. Add to that he has some qualifying issues, which is what put him in play to begin with and it takes even more luster off his verbal.

Don't get me wrong I hope to see a similar result to Antoine McClain from last year. Spurn the home state school and fully qualify, but that general feeling of being stoked after such a big name commitment isn't there this time.
