Re: How Does Brandon LaFell's Leaving LSU for the NFL Affect Reuben Randle's Decision

i agree! in an interview today in the bastrop paper, RR said that he wished he knew where he was going now, so that he could get the recruiting process over with. he admitted that he hasn't had much "down" time since the recruiting season heated up.
I don't know how modern blue-chippers deal with all the hype. With Rivals and Scout, recruiting boards like this one, and radio "experts" all hyping it up, it must be a major distraction in a kid's final year of high school football.

When I was in college in the '70's, Signing Day was when recruits began committing to a school, they signed all spring, and every kid took his visits. Now the pressure starts in their Junior year and is relentless for 18-24 months. If Randle can block out all the distractions and take his time about making an important decision--well, good for him.

and like what was said earlier it makes sense if he knows he's coming here and wants to be tight lipped - living in Louisiana
True, but it can also be said, with just as much veracity, that it makes sense if he knows he is going to LSU and just wants to wait and create more hype for himself and their recruiting class.

And, to be sure, that sort of thing does happen a lot, and it's pretty common.

I agree to an extent because recruiting is a much bigger deal these days, but even so you can end the process whenever you want to. If it's really that big of a burden, he can just call up, commit, and then say he's firm and not taking any other visits. End of story. And I know there is a lot of media devoted to it these days, but even so, they haven't created a newfangled electronic device to yet that didn't have an off button. You can disconnect yourself at will, as much as some people like to think you cannot. Besides, many of the pressures one way or the other, like the pressure from friends and family to stay close to home, have always been around, even way back when.

Being honest, I would say in all actuality it's probably far from a burden. If anything, most recruits, and probably Randle too, deep down love the notion of essentially having the world at the fingertips and just hanging on every last word they say.

One final point... I know it can be said that you need all of the time to think out the decision, but I disagree. How many major life decisions do most people get two or three years to make? Aside from five-star recruits, practically zero. I sat down and decided my college of choice and business school of choice, combined, in about three weeks. It can be done, if you really want to do it. And even if you operate at a slightly slower pace, over a year is more than adequate time to get the job done.

At the end of the day, I just think it all goes back to most of these kids like having the world on a string more so than any real uncertainty regarding their decision this late in the process.

Frankly, I still believe that Randle has it all figured out. He knows, he's just not telling. Same thing goes for just about every other "undecided" recruit out there right now.

Re: Reuben Randle Interview

I really like this guy, not only as an athlete but the way he composes himself!

I havent read this article yet, thanks for posting it! As much as I think he is Tiger bound, I still droll over the possibilities of Julio and Reuban on the field together! It's absolutely an understatement to say these two would be the best WR duo in the country! Both the #1 Receivers of the year side by side! With our running game! The possibilities!

If Randle goes to U of A or OU, I'm going to really enjoy watching him for the next few years.

If he goes to LSU, then he's an overhyped game-player who's probably taking FedEx envelopes of cash. ;)

Seriously, though, I've read an interview with him where he seemed pretty geeked about catching passes from Sam Bradford. In fact, he claimed that Bradford promised him he was coming back weeks ago. The fact that OU returns Gresham and Broyles (who don't play his position-Broyles is a pure slot-but will take DBs off him) while graduating Johnson and Iglesias (who were the main WR threats) bodes well.

LSU's QB situation isn't that bad. The dude they had playing in the bowl game lit it up.

Gotta think that he'd like being lined up opposite Jones, though. Julio's a stuuud.

I would much rather see him in Norman than Baton Rouge but I'm afraid we are both going to be disappointed February 4th.

Most of these kids love the rock star treatment. If they didn't, they would end the circus a few weeks before NSD. The ones that get sick of the attention and distractions, do just that. They're the one you see declaring between New Year's and NSD.

Yeah, the kid definitely knows where he is going. His argument makes no sense. The whole, "I don't know where I'm going yet, but I'll definitely decide on February 4th..." Give me a break. If he really didn't know where he was going, why would he have forced himself to make a decision on NSD. He easily could have done like Terrell Pryor last year and waited a few more weeks before declaring his choice.

Hope we get him, but he's not a show-stopper.

:BigA:If I were Rueben and I wanted to commit to Alabama I would be upfront with coach Saban and wait until signing day where I would not have to deal with all the pressure that will come from the LSU people if he committed to AL. early! On the other hand he may be wanting to recieve all the hype by waiting! Either way I hope he is part of our class and the National Championships that are going to come our way! I think our chances will be better if he waits until the end! ROLL TIDE with Rueben :BigA:

I agree kausman...this guy will not break our class if we do not sign him, but this guy is coveted on multiple levels. He would fill a huge need for us and simultaneously create a devastating perception that Saban is a large player in LA recruiting. If Les Miles lost this guy to Bama, the LSU fanbase would NEVER forget this. Les is already on a short leash after he let a freshman QB run amuck and fielding a defense that underachieved in a big way this past season. I firmly believe that this guy is one more mediocre season away from getting canned. If that were to happen, Saban would gain a serious advantage in LA recruiting.

The thing is...Miles knows all of this. And that is the reason why Randle will sign with LSU come signing day. Quite frankly, he cannot afford not to sign him and i believe he will do whatever it takes to make sure RR signs with LSU. In fact, this whole situation reminds me of Mike Shula having to sign Andre Smith.

Receiver Randle visits Tuscaloosa
"Coming in you want to be in the right offense that fits you," Randle said. "You have got to take that in to consideration coming in. You want to be pleased with the offense you are running, because you do not want to get all down because you are not running the right of.fense."

He has spoken highly of Ok.lahoma, but was impressed with Alabama's Nick Saban, who was the first coach to arrive for an in-home visit.

"Coach Saban came down and he is the only head coach that came down so far," Randle told Rivals. "It was real neat get.ting to meet him and have him talk to my parents. It was real fun."

fwiw, Tiger WR Brandon LaFell withdrew his name from the NFL Draft and is coming back to LSU for his senior season.

don't know how this affects Randle...
