OK, so they FINALLY got this final approval pushed through. Now the fines just have to be paid and the nuts & bolts of how this thing is going to happen and all of us satellite radio lovers can be one big happy family.

And since Bama football coverage was to move to XM this Fall, this is perfect for us Sirius subscribers! Yippee!!

I've had XM since I bought my car in January. I never listen to AM or FM any more. It's good to know if I'm driving along on a Saturday, I can listen to football without searching the dial for a station.

The merger will be awesome as long as they don't jack up the subscriber pricing.

VJ, my understanding is that part of the deal for getting this merger approved involved the company NOT raising prices for, I think, three years. I do know they are going to have different packages. I read somewhere that the basic type package was going to be only around $7/month, the next step up around the $13/month we pay now, and a few other packages where you can choose to include or exclude certain channels. I like that flexibility. I have about 15 channels on Sirius I like to listen to on a regular basis - I couldn't care less about the rest of them.

I haven't heard of the time line yet other than on a business news report on Fox News yesterday that mentioned there would be great motivation on the part of the "new" merged company to have all the kinks worked out before the Christmas buying season kicks in to full swing.

You can negotiate with XM. There's always some discount you can get if you ask for it. My last three months cost me $4.75 per month. When it was time to re-new a couple of weeks ago, I called about the $119 annual fee and asked if they could give me a year for less. No, the first operator said. I told her I was going to cancel and got switched to someone else. The 2nd operator told me the same fee and I sad "No thanks, cancel it" and she said "How about a year for $77?"

FINALLY!!!!! This has been a silly waste of time by Washington. This should have been approved 11 months ago. I love my sirius, but also want my SEC football! YEA!!!!:BigA:

Remind me to take you with me to Mexico the next time I go. I'd love to see how cheap I could buy leather and gold with you doing my bargaining for me.

If you'll pay for my libations I'm there. But please do the shopping early in the a.m. because after 11 or 12 noon on those kinds of trips I am usually headed downhill.

Lack of competition is usually not a good thing.
Satellite radio has plenty of competition. People can choose to listen to music on free terrestrial radio, via streaming over the internet and by downloading music to their iPod or other MP3 device. People who choose to pay for higher quality and fewer commercials now have that option. The moment satellite radio does something the customer doesn't like, said customer can cancel their subscription.

Sounds like plenty of competition and freedom of choice to me.:)

agreed. People get suckered into thinking that this is going to screw the public because there is only one satellite radio company now. Were there NO other options, we would be screwed, but you listed all the options people have. So what if they jack their price up? They'd be pricing themselves out of the competition for listeners.
