Your Worst Sports Memory

Alabama-Ole Miss, 1987--the most inept offense performance I've ever seen--and that's even including last year's MSU game.

Alabama-Auburn, 1997--We had that freaking game won--it would have been our first victory in Jordan-Hare, until Bruce "Why Am I Still Employed" Arians called that silly-a** swing pass.

Alabama-Arkansas, 2006--I kicked the high chair across the room. Twice. All the overtimes blurred into endless string of stupid decisions, and one lame celebration penalty. The sinking realization that Shula just wasn't gonna cut it, and we were in for yet another painful season.

You had to bring up the '97 Iron Bowl. That's the game I was thinking about. Why in the world we threw the ball is beyond me.

Roll Tide!!

Gotta be the OT loss to Arkansas in 2003.
We were rain drenched before the game even started, but Bama came out and jumped all over Arkansas to the tune of 31-10, so we were feeling all warm, cozy and happy. Then, slowly ... the wheels started to come off ending in final catastrophe. Suddenly felt like a tired, cold, wet, whipped dog.

The first loss to Tenn in 11 years. Every time I turned around someone was running the full length of the field for a TD. Peyton led the band after. I think that was Leonard Littles sr year. God that was horrible.

Concerning Bama, my worst sports memories in order...

1) Punt Bama Punt - I still hear that from certain people in my life from time to time.
2) The 73 Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame - even though a classic game, I have not been able to watch it again since...Al Hunter returning the kickoff and the pass out of the end zone by Clements to Weber...always have given credit to ND for winning but Coach said "We just ran out of time."
3) The 1972 Orange Bowl against Nebraska...we could not do anything against the great team of Huskers headed by Johnny Rogers and Rich Glover.
4) Any of the other Iron Bowl losses and especially the last 5 years.

:BigA:
The 73 Sugar Bowl did not bother me because it was a great game. The whole week was wonderful and the ND fans were gracious in the win. We played a great game and it could have gone the other way just as easy.

If it was a fight it would have been a split decision.

Softball championship game...hitting a baseloaded homerun (walkoff) over the right fielder's head and the umpire yelling "batters Out!" he said I stepped on home plate.

This past season..sons team was up 12 with 6 minutes to go to play, undefeated and advance to the 5A state championship game. Two long bombs over our safeties. We had 31 seniors on a great team.

73 Sugar Bowl. Dave Casper was double covered.

64 Orange Bowl...Joe crossed the line

Being insulted personally by tenn fans in K town outside the stadium. never returned there and never will.

2006 iron bowl (my brother and i actually had a great time, but even with all of our issues, we should have beat them last year)

2000 iron bowl

1988 homecoming vs ole miss

2006 vs ole miss (even though we won, this is when the state of our football program really sunk in)

that, the ed scissum auburn game and the prothro injury are mine

1984 - First game of the season.
BAMA races out to a 31-14 lead over Boston College.
A very promising sophmore running back named Kerry Goode, (had the potential to be an all-time great) was having a day made of dreams until the 3rd qtr when it all turns into a nightmare. He blows his knee out which totally deflated the team and then Doug Flutie and BC go on to score 24 unanswered points, with 17 of them coming in the 4th to beat us 38 - 31.
A truly sickening day and K. Goode was never the same.

Pro's injury comes in second only because we went on to win that game.

Well, I would have to say one of worst Bama memories was Tyler Watts dropping the ball as he went to throw it against OU in their first matchup. We could have tied it up or took the lead at that point but instead they picked it up and went the other way with it. I just sat there stunned. Losing by one to UF in 1994 SECCG was a tough one as well. I got to see that one in person.

I guess I will have to go with the LSU game in 2005 as the most heartbreaking though. With so much riding on it, man that one hurt.

When LSU won that game, it was like getting a swift kick in the you know whats.

  • Punt Bama Punt
  • the Cotton Bowl where we were cheated against Texas
  • 82 v. UT
  • both bowl losses to ND
  • Braves getting cheated by Twins when Hrbek hooked and pulled Gant off the bag at first base
  • when Bonds breaks the Hammer's record (future bad memory)
  • 72 Olympic basketball v. USSR & a crooked Bulgarian ref
  • WS where the Braves killed the Yanks in game one then lost 4 straight
  • HS football game where my son tore his ACL & Meniscus (ending his football career)
  • getting puked on at a BAMA game by a stupid kid that drank too much whiskey (I'm sure his parents were proud)
  • losing the state championship game in football and basketball during the same school year (that sucked)
  • my Daddy passing away four years ago, next month, because we will NEVER get to see the Tide Roll together again.

For a while it was when CRR decided he just couldn't part w/WV. Now, its one of my best memories.:biggrin2:
