Your Worst Sports Memory

no question the 73 ND game, but punt bama is a close 2nd. After the AU win my neighbors put a banner across their house that went from one side to the other.....it disappeared after dark.:p_evil:

man what a pathetic thread.

I don't begrudge Payton leading the band after all the heartbreaks the Volls suffered. I have a good TN fan that showed class through all the losses, so to see him so ecstatic sort of put it in perspective. We seemed to have their number several years in a row even though they had very good teams.

:BigA:

The closing minutes of the Independence Bowl. To see all the rushing yards they had out of the shotgun formation made me want to vomit. But now that i think about it i think i did.

Got to be the 6-3 loss to Miss St. I live in Jackson at the time and was pretty young. My father was a minister there and the next day at church was awful. Actually the whole week was pretty bad. Did everyone know they actually wrote a song about that game and played it all the time on the radio. I would not cheer for Miss St. vs the russisans to this day because of that and my X wife went there.

Second would have to be the KY game we lost at KY a few years ago. My dad is now a minister in western KY and he got me the tickets for my birthday and we went on my birthday. As I watched all the KY fans tear down the goal posts, I leaned over and mentioned, nice gift dad! I think I need to live in North Dakota or something, I now cannot stand anything to do with UK. The only saving grace was watching our BBALL team beat them at Rupp a couple of years ago.

The 1997 Iron Bowl would have to be my worst. I got home and they kept showing that stupid @%% swing pass on ESPN and I finally lost it. I ran everyone out of the house in about 15 seconds. Then they had to keep me from driving up to Tuscaloosa that night, I wanted some answers from someone. That was the maddest I've ever been.

Second would have to be the 2003 ALCS Aaron "bleepin" Boone.

My two worst sports memories that I saw in person were the last drive of the UGA 2001 game and "the fumble" in Tuscaloosa in '05...My heart was completely broken in those two games

The "Steve Bartman" game would rank up there in worst memories also, although I wasn't at the game

I have two worst moments.
#1 Pflugner's missed FG against Michigan in overtime.
#2 UNC's game winning home run to send them to the CWS. Everyone in that stadium knew what Robertson was going to throw and well the rest is history.

While most every game mentioned is painful, in most of those games we played our hearts out and still lost. The one game (and maybe the only game) that the team actually quit was the 2000 USM game at Legion Field. We lost 21-0 and Dubose tearfully offerd his resignation to Mal Moore after the game which Mal did not accept. I saw the football players walking off the field, through the tunnel with their heads down and fans leaning over cussing them and throwing drinks on them. I do not remember all the horrible details, but seem to recall we never got closer than the USM 30 yard line the entire night. We were lucky they didn't hang 50 on us that night. No heart, no desire, no pride and absolutely no coaching that night. I have sat through some tough losses over the years but in every instance those boys played their hearts out, not that night in B'ham. Hope I never see that again.

23-24 loss to ND in Sugar Bowl new years eve. i remember watching the game and hoping for the safety at the end of game. we punted the ball late and they were on the 1 yard line. they made the play on 3rd down to the TE not casper. bad night.

Walking away from BDS after losing to NIU a few years ago.

Or maybe watching Josh Reed and Rohan Davey set records at BDS in 2001. (But that memory was made better by watching our boys shut them out the following year in "Death Valley"--still can't figure out the reason for that nickname)

i have had a few come to mind since i've been thinking about, but this is the one that came STRAIGHT to my mind when i read the thread title.:mad2: scissum swing pass

next would probably be the 9-0 iron bowl (2000 i think) with the chunks of ice/sleet bouncing off our heads - what a miserable experience.

oh and while i am very glad it happened...the moment i heard it was official - that fRan was going to a&m - that was a pretty low moment, i don't think i've ever hated anyone more.

ok, i'm leaving this thread, it is very depressing...

UT '03 - because I actually "BELIEVED" that's why it was so PAINFUL

Kinda like Denzel Washington in that movie where he's the bodyguard, and the little girl makes him "happy" again after so many years of misery. Oh, yeah, Man on Fire. That's what I felt like

I have quite a few.

2001: The OSU plane crash

2003: Bartman

2004: Will Bynum beating my alma mater at the buzzer.

2004: Le$ Mile$ leaving my alma mater for LSWho

2005: LSWho and Awdarn, back to back

Dishonorable mention: Any loss to OU, and having to endure the trash talking of Sooner fans afterword
