Rueben Randle Thoughts...

Sorry BET, but if everyone is saying it's 50/50, I'm gonna lean towards the crimson, just being optimistic I guess. Anyway, agree with you on cooling it on the thread.

I TRY to look at this objectively, and from everything I've been able to pick up, it had been 50/50, but the same folks who had been saying 50/50 seem to think that LSU now is out front pretty good. All reports are that Randle is back to a strong LSU lean.

But, I dont think we'll know until NSD

Getting back to Randle... I think we probably need to cool it on these threads about him.

First and foremost, there really just isn't much news out there, end of story. He'll announce somewhere near, or on, National Signing Day, and he's going to be very tight-lipped until then. There is just no news to speak of, plain and simple, and it just turns into really long threads recycling the same things.

Second, I think everyone probably needs a dose of a realism. Be honest... Randle is probably going to sign with LSU, so you might as well prepare yourself for that. We're going them one hell of a fight, and it's very close, but take it from someone who has been following recruiting for a very long time... it's extremely difficult to pull someone away from the in-state school when (1) the in-state school has very strong support throughout the state, and (2) when that school has been doing very well in recent years. Obviously both apply to LSU, and thus Randle will be a very difficult pull. He's probably LSU bound. Hope for the best, mind you, but come to terms with that basic reality.

Again, I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but I do think these threads need a dose of realism. There is no real news on Randle -- and hundreds of message board posts on the subject don't change that -- and he's probably going to end up a Tiger anyway.

I absolutely agree. Every piece of "news" is just speculation from some "source". And he's as tight lipped as Julio was last year.

Speaking of Julio, I've compared their recruiting process for a while now as I feel like it'll end up just the same... he'll stay in state. Thought I do feel like there's a bigger shot of someone (like us) stealing Randle than there was of Julio going to UF or OU. It is a really long shot.

Does Boise State and Ohio State come to mind? Both teams had a first year starter, one a red shirt freshman and the other a true freshman. Both did very well.

And Russell Wilson was the ACC offensive player of the year this year as a freshman.

Tyrod Taylor was a key offensively for Va Tech winning the ACC 2 years in a row.

There's plenty of freshmen QBs that play well if they're either just that good or fit into the right system. A lot of times when there's a very talented freshman that plays for a very talented team that doesn't rely so heavily on him...things work out fine. See Colt/Bradford/Pryor/Bomar/Ainge/Henne/ etc... and you can find many true sophomore's really making their first starts like Chris Leak/Leinart/Tebow/Pat White and of course I could go on and on. These are just SOME of the standout guys, there are many more that were more than serviceable that made first starts as freshmen or sophomores. I think if LSU had a defense this year and started Jefferson earlier on (because Lee just sucks), and could rely heavier on their rushing attack instead of play catchup every game...they'd have been in better shape.

While the gist of your post may be somewhat correct, you're not right with regards to news. There IS news to be had on the subject... the problem is that you've got multiple sources on both sides of the coin (Bama/LSU) who are connected to both sides. And, there is conflicting reports... possibly w/ some trying to steer the public perception.

Contrary to popular belief, we're not out of it. Nor is LSU a huge leader at this point. Right now, a good estimate would be 60-40 LSU... with the 10 percent extra on LSU's side simply because of the home-field advantage. And, I don't really see anything changing majorly between now and NSD.

regarding the QB issue, if McElroy starts next year, then i see it like Matt Flynn starting for LSwho in '07. a veteran backup that steps right in and plays pretty well. and if it's Star, assuming our O-line will be good next year, there won't be as much pressure on Star as he'll have the running game to lean on.

as far Randle goes, we should be looking to where he makes his announcement. if it's at his high school, then most likely it'll be LSwho, considering there'll be a bunch of corndogs there.

Yeah one has experience throwing TD's to the enemy, one got hurt and wasn't very good to begin with, and Jefferson has looked ok I'll admit.

I'd take two 4 star unknowns (Star and AJ) and a McElroy who's looked good when he has played over Lee (pick six), Shephard (I'd rather run than throw), Hatch (probably won't step foot on the field again).

Jefferson is LSU's only hope...
Well, I understand what you are saying, but . . . my very cool purple and gold shades show me Hatch, the big running QB who started the season, ran the offense well, and won his starts before breaking his leg; 4-star recruit Lee, who still has the best arm on the team and whose freshman problems can be fixed by more coaching and experience; and 4-star Jefferson, a raw talent with a ton of upside. All with plenty of playing time and their freshman butterflies behind them.

But I really think Randle has to be seriously looking at 5-star Shepard coming in. He's the top-rated quarterback in the country and already enrolled at LSU where he will compete with the other three in the spring.

Red, let's be honest. Sheppard isn't the answer at QB for LSU. Pretty much everyone other than Russell Shepard knows this. The kid will be a WR or ride the pine his entire career as a QB. Has a cannon for an arm but not a lot of accuracy and no sense of touch. As far as speed, I doubt he's much faster (if any) faster than that freshman that ended up at QB for you guys (his name escapes me).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know... they'll all probably end up in the NFL Hall of Fame, we get it. But that's not the point.

The point is don't come on an Alabama board with stuff like that and then accuse others 'Bama fans of effectively being blind kool-aid drinking homers. If you're going to do that, next time you might as well bring Roseanne with you so she can criticize fat and obnoxiously loud people.

And besides, the thread is about Randle, not how you guys have the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. If you want to talk about that, go look up the old thread about Francois being better than Dorsey and this being the greatest LSU line in history, and post it there as an addendum, not in the Rueben Randle thread. All of this proven quarterback junk is garbage, anyway, in relation to Randle; if that were really a deal-breaker for him one way or the other, he'd never give a second look to either Alabama or LSU.

What the burr under your saddle, today?

I only offered another viewpoint to a guy who suggested that LSU had nuthin' at QB. Thats all, no accusations, we're just talkin' here, amigo. I said that I was looking through purple and gold glasses, you know. That usually suggests to folks that I'm offering a homer opinion, too.

Well the post in question was about how Randle might pick Bama over LSU because the relatively unknown Bama quarterbacks will be better than LSU's. Opinons differ, that's all. Geez . . .

You sound familiar with all of this...How does it feel to have a valid argument but have it blasted every time you post?

Yeah, exactly.
