I wish the man the best of luck during his reign. God only knows how much he needs it. I said before the election, it doesn't matter who the incoming president is, the task ahead is beyond comprehension, something that I would not wish on anybody. Somebody on this board said the real winner in this election was the looser. I agree.
Back to the subject; the inaguration process has turned into a real circus. Not just this time around, but for the last several years. I guess, because Obama happens to be half black, some feel excessive celebration is in order. Color is not and should not be the issue, but it remains thus for many in our nation. Personally, I think the time for acculades should be reserved for the end of the presidency; after the nation has judged one's performance.
We are in very deep trouble and I am concerned about all the bailout TARP money going into essentially nothing more than black holes. If the government wants to spend these funds, someone in Washington needs to think about funding businesses that have futures in employment growth. Throwing money at every failing entity, for the sake of supporting it, will eventually come back to haunt us. Very little of this funding, in my mind, is directed at building blocks for growing long term jobs.
Obama talks a great story. But, there comes a point when he has to do more than read speeches from a telepromptor. If things do not improve within a 18 to 20 months, it is going to get tough for him. Again, I wish him the best in making good decisions and leading the country out of this. I will give him credit if and when he earns it. We shall see if his administration has the answers.
