Hello from east Tennessee

Welcome to the board, VF1. There's not much I can add to what's been posted here about CLK's actions other than that he's making a huge tactical mistake in his public appearances. Anytime you get the top coaching staffs in the conference all paying renewed attention to your next meeting and having months to plan for it, bad things are coming. Kiffin's badly overplayed his hand, which will make the end that much worse when it comes. Having a huge ego is great - the best coaches have giant ones - but right now CLK comes across as the perfect example of that Texas saying "All Hat and No Cattle".

It speaks volumes that Meyer, Saban, Miles, and others are saying nothing right now.

I was a huge Fulmer supporter and hated to see him go.

Fulmer did have success on the field, but left a lot to be desired off the field. I have a cousin who was a high school standout who was recruited by Fulmer and signed with UT as an o-lineman in the 90's. After refusing to participate in Fulmer's steroid program, my cousin was alienated by the coach and eventually left the team. It was only his love for UT and fear for the safety of his family that outweighed his hatred of Fulmer and kept him from taking his story to the NCAA.

You can also look back on Fulmer's paranoia and obsession with Alabama and his huge role in tearing down our program which led to his eventual demise. Many in the college football world agree that if he had put more effort into elevating his own team instead of trying to drag down his opponents, he would have been much more successful and still be at UT today.

Then there is the criminal element. If you believe that Fulmer and his cronies in the UT mafia had NOTHING to do with the fate of Logan Young, then you are simply kidding yourself. The story that the Memphis DA & police told about the way Logan Young "fell to his death down a stairwell" and the quick manner in which they closed the case did not jive with the description of the condition of his body and the wounds that he suffered.

So in closing, Volfan1, you may have a laughingstock coach at the moment, but I respect a fool more than a thug. You're actually better off now. Good luck with the season. My personal prediction: After Florida hangs about 80 on UT, and after Bama beats UT by about 40, Kiffin will be "allowed to resign". Then maybe your BOT will get serious again about your football program.

Just wanted to say hi and welcome. There is nothing I can add that has not already been said and you don't believe it anyway so I'll not waste my time.

From someone living in orange hail, I certainly hear the luvfest for Kiffy -- so I understand your position. Welcome to Tidefans, the BEST site on college football.

I don't keep up with the Vol world but I'm curious if the well-respected Monty Kiffin has had a comment on what most of the rest of us consider a somewhat circus atmosphere.

It is obvious you hate the Vols a little more than most. Please show me a link to something about Fulmer and his steroid program.

After that, you portray CPF as being a mafia like member.

I am trying to look at things from both sides. I would not be here otherwise. If you want to show me some links to where I can read about what you are saying, I will be more than happy to check them out. I would love to read about the steroid program and the mafia like activities that go on here, since CPF was involved in a murder.

Tide fans,

Thanks for welcoming me here. So far things have been a little better than I expected. There have been a couple of posts from complete Vols haters. I can overlook that for the most part.

I realize that you guys don't think highly of Fulmer and that Kiffin is a "joke" to you guys. I hope he can prove he is not a joke come September. That will be decided then and not now.

I see that Tide fans are much like Vol fans. You have the ones that actually look at it down the middle you then have the ones that wear the crimson glasses. Just like UT fans.

As I said in my first post...I do not feel like it is my place to come here and bash what the Tide fan base thinks. You guys love your team just like I love mine.

The challenge to provide links is, of course, meaningless, or PF would be in jail. There's no point in sparring about it. You won't change a single mind. It's best just to drop it. We've always limited "defense" of Fulmer here. You wouldn't know that, being new. But "defense" of that individual is like waving a red flag at a bull, when it comes to Bama fans. Attempting it usually results in a closed thread, banning or suspension. Remember - it is a Bama board. What you don't want to read, just ignore it and let it slide...

You are correct. I did not come here to defend Fulmer. All that was thrown at me and all I asked for was some proof of what was being thrown my way.

IF it could be proven, as I said, he'd be in jail now. The fact that he's not doesn't shake the beliefs of many Bama fans about the man. As I said, it's best to just let it lie...

Please explain what Bama fans consider "shady". I doubt UT did anything worse than threatening the recruits by not allowing them to visit a certain school. Granted, had McCarron and Richardson truly had interest in signing with UT they would have made the visit regardless of what Saban had to say.

I don't know how you can say UT has had great coaches....and leave Fulmer out.

Theres plenty of stuff out there floating around about UT right now regarding their recruiting, and not just on the BAMA boards, I'm sure you're already familiar with some of it. I'm not saying all of it is true or even illegal, hence the "shady" comment, meaning its borderline tactics. If I can find a link or two from things I've read elsewhere I'll link them.
Don't get me wrong, recruiting is/can be dirty business and LK is not the first thats played it that way, but sooner or later it catches up to you in some form or other. If it was just a random deal, maybe people wouldn't notice quite so much, but when your HC is running his mouth the way yours is, and multiple incidents or situations with recruits, you're begging for someone to take notice.

I remember CNS making a comment of "if you shop, we'll shop" when he was hired, in regards to recruits taking visits after they've committed. But the one thing I've noticed that you'll hear most recruits say about CNS is that he is straight up with them from the start, and he doesn't play around. They know exactly where they stand with him and Alabama.

Re: Fulmer...you can't have lurked here very long not to realize he was never liked on this board for obvious reasons. And IF he was so great in your mind, why was he fired...err stepped down, and replaced with a guy with almost zero to offer on his resume?

As for XCLT, I thought at the time that would be a big loss for Alabama from the coaching staff. As I see it now, it was NOT.
Thank the good Lord CNS doesn't allow his staff to speak to the media. Now we know why. It seems he'll fit right in where he is.

I don't mean to offend any of our regular friendly Vol fans that post here, and hopefully you guys won't be. I always enjoy the friendly banter that goes on between our two respective schools. But when you post a question or comments like this, it may open up more discussion than you'd like to hear/read. Honestly I really do think you guys could have done way better for a HC, and I felt that well before any of this stuff came out. Just my thoughts.RTR.:BigA:

Well, since I have already been threatened to be banned if I defend Fulmer, I will not comment anymore on him.

Could we have done better for a new HC? Possibly...we will not know the answer to that for a while. I was wanting to see Brian Kelly from Cincinnati. Many here wanted Mike Leech....I think we are all glad now that, that didn't happen.

I didn't threaten to ban you for defending him. I just don't like to see threads blow up into flame wars, which is just where all these end. Let me repeat, one last time, S L O W L Y. You've already defended your coach. Fine. You have used all the arrows in your quiver, and, by your own admission, you have no more information, and you haven't made a dent in changing anyone's minds. Just let it drop, already, and don't beat dead horses on other folks' sites. I'm tiring of this exchange and I don't expect to spend any more time on it...

Goes all the way back to my childhood so no one may remember this but here goes.

Kiffin reminds me of a boxer back then named Ernie Terrell.
He had never really accomplished a lot but he was a big mouthed, cocky guy.

He was about to fight Mohammed Ali, during Ali's prime championship years.

Rather than simply showing up and doing his best Terrell, weeks before the fight, started calling Ali Cassius Clay(Which ticked Ali off), and he talked about how he was going to punish "Clay", and beat him into submission.

He was talking the talk he didn't have the ability to back up against one of the greatest fighters ever.

Well needless to say, rather than just winning the fight, Ali beat the guys ears off his head for 15 rounds in one of the most brutal beatings I've ever seen. Before every combination Ali would scream "What's my name?" And launch about 25 left right combo's. Even worse, when Ali saw Terrell was about to go down, he'd back off and let him survive so he could whip up on him some more. Buy the end of the fight Terrell was actually crying.

I didn't enjoy the fight at all. It was horrific. But what Tiffin is doing is much like Terrell.

He's making coaches who are already far superior to him...angry.

That's a good way to get embarrassed on a football field.

VolFan1. First let me say that I am not a Vol hater. I am a Fulmer hater, and he is where he is today because of the old saying "what goes around comes around". Call it Karma, or the "Football Gods", or whatever. I have no problem with the fans, the football team, or the university in general. I personally think that hearing "Rock Top" on a crisp fall football afternoon is one of the things I will always think about when I think of the joy I get from college football. It's just part of football.

I have nothing to show proof about Fulmer's steroid thing except for a first hand eye-witness account from a cousin who was in the middle of it. And as I said, he's not willing to bring down the program he loves just to spite Phil Fulmer.

On the Logan Young deal, if you have high speed internet, do your own search and read all the articles you can find and draw your own conclusion. I'm not Matlock. But because people tied to the university of Tennessee are not in jail for homicide has nothing to do with whether or not they were involved in homicide or conspiracy to commit homicide. The original police report (according to Memphis reporters) showed it as a homicide, and then within a week it was ruled accidental by the DA and everyone involved in the case was put on gag order. Why do you think that might occur? Someone doesn't want the truth to come out, maybe? Remember Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman? No one is in jail having been convicted of their murders, but they were still murdered.

I offered my opinions on your beloved coach Fulmer. I did not intend to enter a sparring match because that is not what this board is about.

I love my university and our team. I don't hate the opponents.

Nice post...and even as a Vol fan, I am afraid you could be right.

I am hoping that this staff can back up what has been spewed. Being CLKs first season...you could be dead on.

I don't think his first season tells the story. I think he'll get all kinds of slack, the talent pool being somewhat depleted. He'll need to show a lot of improvement in the second, and, if he doesn't by his third, he's probably toast. CNS was very careful not to raise expectations, but he set the bar way, way high for all new coaches by going 12-0 in only his second season. CLK has, contrary to what Nick did, actually raised expectations. He's put an extraordinary amount of pressure on himself, which, IMO, didn't need to be there...
