Question: How did you become a Tidefan ?

Born in Mobile in 76...have baby pictures of me in barner gear...apparently my parents decided to raise me right, I am guessing soon after the 1979 sugar bowl. Been a Bama fan as long as I can remember. Family moved to Birmingham in 82. I remember that I cried the day Bear died. My mother checked me out of school to go to the funeral. I still have a carnation from his casket spray.

Attended The University 94-97. Due to my lack of acedemic focus, forced to pursue my education elsewhere (UAB). But I sure had a great time while I was there. No regrets! (well ok, a couple).

Joined this wonderful forum during the Mike Price Strip club debacle. Been a dailey reader ever since!

Well... Back in the Dubose years, there was this internet bulletin board called Bamanation, or something like that. It was about the only place where you could go to get the truth about Bama football. I posted on it like I was at home.

Then, it went poof.

And, this place showed up and I was back home again.

I love Tidefans...

That was the old Bamafan listserv. We had quite a collection of characters on there.

What I was referring to was the one, and the only, BamaNation.com, the parent/precursor/progenitor of the one and the only, Tidefans.com.

I joined it in pffff... 1998? 1999? Its server went belly up after I'd posted about 389,437 messages (easily besting Bayoutider). :)

Man, those were the days. Al Gore had just got through inventing the internet and this thing was on like wildfire!

I was close ... but you got me on the last one. I went to a D III school in Indiana so it was not difficult for me to adopt the Tide. My wife adopted the Colts as her NFL team.

I can't remember the first time I pulled for the Tide. Dad is a big fan; always liked the Bear and his classy ways. Just remember Saturdays in the fall always being the best time of year when cool weather came and it was time to listen to John Forney.

Proud to say I was one of the ones on the board back then too. Not many of us remember the "great server crash" which wiped out everyone's post count....

I don't remember it being BamaNation.com. I was posting here from about 98 on as TiderInVestavia and maybe one other screenname, but I don't remember it having another domain name. Of course, I try not to remember too much from the Dubose era. I was very happy when I found this Bama message board.

I first got on the Bamafan listserv around 95 or 96. It was almost impossible to keep track of a topic because the emails would come in as people replied and things were all out of order.

There's been at least two instances where post counts were killed. The most recent might have been due to a change to the software, but I remember the one back in early 99 (or somewhere thereabouts). It seemed like there were about 3 or 4 server crashes in less than a period of a few months before Brett found a stable home for the board.

My Uncle is Bill Blair that played defensive back in the late 60's. It was either cheer for Bama or get out of the family. I have to admit, I have taken it to the next level!

Hah! I was on that server also and had over 500,000 posts :)

After it became tidefans.com there were actually 2 server meltdowns where we all lost a number of posts.

Born and raised in Hammond, IN. Grew up a ND fan since I was so close and ND football was the only sport that seemed like it had a pride factor in the area.

Was adopted as a teenager and moved to BAMA in 89'. My first Iron bowl is what turned me into a BAMA fan. All of the men and women in my new adopted family planned their entire weekend around the Iron Bowl.

I thought the superbowl was taking place right before thanksgiving! The women were screaming at the tv and going nuts just as loud as the men. I knew I was surrounded by compassionate people when people were giving money to have someone on standby to go buy the Iron bowl shirts right after the game.

My brother asked me which side of the room I was sitting on and I asked him why? He said you better choose because once the game starts, it's on and and you have no idea how people are going to react.

So as the game started, I watched how the BAMA fans were tuned to every aspect of the game. Then I heard a female say what kind of defense Aub was running and that they were going to stunt.........I knew then that if women in the south could read a defense that BAMA was now my pride of football. I then sat with the "Tidefans" and the rest is history........Roll Tide

That was so long ago, I don't even remember my username. I do remember that I was still running OS/2 Warp at the time and had the bestest browser tricks of anyone.

The invisible text trick still works, though. ;)

Did you ever post on SuperBama? I think that was before the name change to BamaNation. During that time I ran the Alabama board for a guy named Ryan (Oklahoma St. guy) who had a site called NCAAboards. The Bama board quickly became the premier board with more posts and members than the rest of the boards combined. A lot of those people are now on tidefans. When tidefans would crash we would take in the refugees and keep them posted on when tidefans site would be back up.

I was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and have been a Tide Fan as long as I can remember. My father wouldn't allow me to go to the University of Alabama. He made me go to Birmingham-Southern. I hated it and I still do after all these years.

Anyway, I married a Bama Fan who also went to Birmingham-Southern, but we were BIG Bama Fans, and taught our children right!!! Both our son and daughter attended the University of Alabama, AND their spouses also went to ye ole University of Alabama.

Sooooo all of us "bleed" Crimson and White.

Oh, BTW, our son was born the day Alabama played Auburn. Alabama lost that day, but my husband and I won. :)

Our daughter was born the year the "Bear" came to Bama. Our two children grew up not knowing the meaning of the word "lose". We did, however, had to learn how after he died.

But now we have Saban - Hallelujah !!!

Didn't really even follow Bama in my youth either being born and raised in MD, ACC country. Was an athlete though and in my sport the tops was the SEC so I contemplated being a Vol :conf3:, Gamcock :conf3: or running w/ the Tide... My recruiting trip to Alabama was all it took. It was love at first visit! Afterschool, moved back to where my parents live (Home will always be t-town) so it is tough to get good tide info through local channels... Found tidefans and have been here since.

I truely appreciate this forum. I have to say that the mods do an fantastic job and the posters are as educated a fan base as you will every find!

Bayoutider & GulfCoastTider-

Your references to the early days of websites for UA fans brings back memories. Wasn't SuperBama run by a UA engineering grad student? That site was a lifeline for me and other far flung tide fans. Prior to Gore inventing the internet, I had to rely on my old roommate mailing me newspaper clippings of the games (a true friend & passionate Bama fan).
