ok, that wasn't supposed to put the video junk in there?????

Doesn't Ingram now where a shield on his facemask? I don't think he wore one last year - maybe he added it after playing the gators....

Seems the same to me, dirty on both counts. JMO.

Didn't say it wasn't dirty but it was football and giving the guy an extra shot was excepted but even then we had rules....

Look at it this way, even in prison they have rules, its okay to be a murderer or an armed robber but god help you if you are a child molester...
Not saying it is right but giving a guy an extra elbow is not going to blind him for life and ruin his chances of ever playing again....... There is a limit to how dirty is accepted by anyone who plays football and shots at the KNEES, NECK, HELMET and EYES are NOT acceptable~!~

Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.
Meyer sounds like he could care less, he is making excuses for it. Saying that just shows lack of character and class. Well he did it to me first....as if that makes it OK. What a joke I wouldn't let my children play for Meyer if he was the only one left on Earth.

The Associated Press: Florida's Spikes suspended for gouging eyes

Gee I wonder just how the gayterds will survive against powerhouse Vandy without the eye master????????

My guess:
Urban: "So, what punishment needs to be made?"
SEC Office: "Well, it must be something, otherwise we'll all get blamed for ignoring the issue. But, it cannot be too much, because if people wanted to, they could find something like this in at least four or five games a year. So, let's say a suspension of some length, but you can determine how long the suspension is."
Urban: "No prob..."

That is a pretty weak punishment. I wish the SEC would step in and at least make it the full game but I doubt that will happen.

Your doubts are valid, Mike Slive can't go to the bathroom without Jeremy Foley's permission.

UF-UGA was a nasty game, UGA had 4 personal fouls in the first half alone, UGA was flagged for pulling off Spikes' helmet after plays were dead, once SPikes got his hair pulled from inside his helmet, Spikes was supposedly spit on by the TB he was retaliating against, Tebow got a finger in the eye and had to leave the field to wash it out...

in the middle of the game the refs called the team captains out and warned them to stop the late hits and skirmishes after almost every snap...

Spikes got caught on film playing dirty, in a dirty game...

none of that makes what Spikes did right, but it does give it context.

It is good to know that Bama fans have such a high sense of justice and fair play, your outrage is inspiring, I am sure that the fact that the player in question is a star player on the team between you and your dreams of glory is pure coincidence.

Dream on.

If you do a search, you'll find posts about how classless DJ Hall was (doing the throat slashing) after we beat you guys 31-3 @ BDS. We call it both ways.

Go back to the hood. SEC hasn't spoke yet just Florida. The SEC will step in and put Spikes out for the game. There are no excuses for this kind of play even if he was a Bama player.

Are any of us naive enough to believe that this does not happen all the time? Just because now we have some many cameras constantly focusing on every play stuff like that is going to get caught on camera.... yes it was a terrible thing to do and yes because it was caught on camera there had to be some reprimand, but if this game were on pay-per-view no one would have seen it just like 90% of the "dirty" plays that happen at the bottom of a pile in football. Like i said it was dirty and deserved punishment but the out cry over this is a little over blown for me.....

Many / most of us would be calling for the same punishment if Rolando McClain were to stoop to such levels. Thankfully he appears to have more class than that.

You can rationalize this thug-like behavior all you wish, but it doesn't change what it is.

It's just that the "punishment" was just so very, VERY predictable. Half a game? The only message that it sends is that Meyer doesn't really care one way or the other. Sure, it was a dirty game but you don't punish one guy based on other guys' actions. Make it a full game suspension. It sends a message to the rest of the league that you at least TRY to run a clean program and you stand for integrity. One game. That's all. You don't dress. You don't play. You don't get to be on the sideline. I personally don't think the suspension should be anything beyond that. But a half? C'mon man.

I will go a step further. If a Bama player does this, I would want him off the team - forever.

I don't want to lose, but they are not going to lose without Spikes the rest of the regular season. The punishment is shameful. Reminds me of the Shula days, and I was almost banned a few times for some of my criticisms of his "punishments". At a minimum, he should have been suspended for the rest of their regular season...

The fact is if (one game at a time)we make it to the SEC CG, Trust me just like Rolando said, we want all of ya'll playing and healthy! We don't want NO Excuses!!!!!:BigA: And trust me we ain't dreaming of glory, been there done that, we just coming back around for some more " glory"! :BigA:

Yeah, and there are other bad things done every day. When we find them, we have to punish them...

The sad thing is, the next game is against VANDY for cripe's sake. Why not just sit him one game? That way Meyer at least LOOKS LIKE he doesn't condone that kind of crap...

They could start their entire second string D and probably beat Vandy by 3 scores...
