Do HDMI cables really have to be that high? Geez! Anybody have an online source for cables? I just can't see paying 30-60 bucks for a 6' hdmi cable. Can't help it! I'm cheap!:biggrin2:

Never pay retail prices for cables. The prices are extremely marked up. I've used this site many times (They have great cables at a fraction of the price):

monoprice.com

You're welcome! :)

I second both Monoproce and Newegg, also amazon.com has cheap cables now under their own brand. Also if you live in an area with a Fry's, they have prices similar to monoprice without having to wait, but you have to know where to look. For those that care, get out of the audio section and into the build it yourself section and you will find 4-5$ HDMI Cables at Fry's/

Never pay for high end cables. Biggest scam in Electronics

Jon

never mind, I see you are in Daphne. No Fry's there

i was desperate to resolve an electronic issue and needed and hdmi cable immediately. i picked up a 3' long one at best buy for $30-40. I looked it up online the following day- it was $8

i agree, cables are the biggest ripoff in the industry

Just visited monoprice.com to check on the hdmi cable for the wii and it was $3.50! At walmart it was 18-20 bucks! I'm glad I asked about a cable source here! Thanks y'all!!!!!!!

I didn't realize the Wii could push out a HD signal. Is there an HDMI port on the newer generations?

The wii only does 480p I think. I think I'm calling the cable wrong on that though. I think it's a cable that actually plugs into the component input. I have my wii plugged into the red, white and yellow inputs and it has a lag time in the actions. By using the component inputs it's supposed to eliminate that due to something about 480p progressive scanning mumbo jumbo. Anyway, I'm gonna get the cable and see what it does and get some hdmi cables for my other video components.

I am no expert; but the red, white and yellow are component.... Are you sure Wii only outputs in 480p??? Are U connecting the Wii directly to your TV; or through a receiver? The great thing about HDMI is it will hopefully eliminate a ton of cables as for the most part HDMI passes both audio and video.

Looks like it is only 480p; must be why it is lower $ than the other consoles out there. Since its 480p; component cables IMO will work fine.

Keep in mind that HDMI cables carry a digital signal and so are not prone to signal degredation like, say, speaker wire. It's either going to carry the signal or it's not. So no need to spend more than for the absolute cheapest cable that goes the distance you need. A $5 cable will give as good a picture as a $50 cable.

Red/white/yellow cables are not component cables.

The red/white wires are left and right audio, and the yellow wire is composite video, which carries a standard definition signal even worse than S-Video.

Component cables are red, green, and blue, and these three wires carry an analog high definition signal (which also has no DRM).
