I was watching some videos on espn.com and one of the recent ones was Pat Fordes view on the Heisman.. He stated that the only thing that hurts Mark Ingrams chances are that he hasnt ran for over a 100 yards against a top 40 Defense. How is this or how did he come up with this statment???

I think he meant to say top 40 rush defense. I've heard that stat several times so he probably left the "rush" part out when he said it. Of course, its difficult to maintain good rush defense stats when you've been run over by Ingram and Richardson.

Uh, maybe if Mark Ingram wasn't ripping every team he plays against those teams would, uh, you know, rank higher.

But yeah, otherwise, great point.

Pat lives in Louisville and is a ex writer for the Courier-Journal and hates Bama, everytime I see his name on here I remind folks of that. I have sent him many letter/voice mails over the years when he has bashed us.

He is a jerk and when he is on ESPN I change the channel.

The thing is that those rankings are somewhat deceiving. Does anyone honestly believe that Syracuse, Nevada, Mizzou, Temple, Northern Illinois, La-Monroe, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Central Michagin, or Tulsa is actually a better rushing defens than LSU, Ole Miss and Va Tech? No, they are all ahead of them in the rankings....(nevada at 12th!!!!) it is just that they play against teams who dont run the ball while rushing the football is a key in the SEC.....

Also i dont really think that his favorite contender Kellen Moore from BSU wants to fight about who has played the better defense....

How many times has
(a) Ingram had the chance and failed?
(b) another Heisman candidate put up 100 on a top 40 rushing defense?
I mean, Gerhart may have put up 100 on Arizona, or something, and Ingram may not have broken 100 on some top 40 rushing defense we played, but that is an obscure stat.
If Ingram's big performances were FIU and North Texas, I could understand, but those were actually his weakest games, statistically. His biggest games have been our biggest games, sans UT.

He is talking about RUSHING defense.....here is the link...2009-10 NCAA Football Team Rushing Defense - USATODAY.com

If you want to throw in TOTAL defense it is a completely different story, obviously the writer doesn't want Ingram to win,

17. VT
20. USCe
21. LSU
23. Ole Miss
25. TN

KY is sitting at 42 and MSU at 64

Those figures are all askew from reality. Those figures might be how they are all ranked this week, but remember that we've already beaten EVERY ONE OF THEM into submission. How about looking at it again, this time figuring where each of those defenses ranked just before we pummeled them? Then it might be a tad more accurate, and Mark will look a lot better in the eyes of an objective viewer.

Looks like half of our opponents are in the top 25 in total defense. Mark had over 100 yards against VT, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and LSU. Not to mention 99 yards against UT.

Therefore, Forde is a moron.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ignore Patty. He uses the numbers game to slight Alabama. He did it when he was at the Louisville Journal. Today ESPN showed the BCS and the SEC vs the PAC10 on how many teams are ranked in the Top 25. What ESPN failed to show was no PAC10 team is in the TOP 10 BCS. All three for the SEC are in the TOP 10. People are not stupid but ESPN wants people to believe somehow the PAC10 is equal to the SEC. Dead Wrong.
