USC investigating tailback Joe McKnight's use of vehicle

Add this to the long list of "issues" that the NZAA will ignore.

Great pic. Worth at least 1000 words.

Obviously one is the investigator assigned to USC and the other is assigned to UT. If the one assigned to UA was in the photo his nose would be low to the ground and his nostrils would be flaring.

This is just unbelievable. They're currently being investigated for more than one infraction, and yet they continue to do these kinds of things. It's like they either know they NCAA won't do anything to them, or they're just stupid. Maybe both.

If this were happening at a school in the SEC, I wonder what the over/under would be on the number of times sports writers and commentators would use the phrase "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."

Anyone who thinks all this NCAA probing is not effecting the football program has a short memory. They will finally get nailed, but the prolonging of the situation is not beneficial to recruiting. After all, they are not in a BCS bowl this year and this has been going on for about three years now.

It has taken the luster off the program at least so far.

To this point the NCAA investigation of U$C's football program has not impacted their recruiting negatively at all. Here is how Rivals has rated their last several recruiting classes:

2009- #4 (U$C only signed 19 recruits)
2008- #8 (U$C only signed 19 recruits)
2007- #2 (U$C only signed 18 recruits, but 6 of them were 5-star recruits)
2006- #1
2005- #1
2004- #1

These are national rankings.

Right now Rivals has U$C's recruiting class ranked #10 with only 13 commitments.

Here is the Rivals team ranking link:

This is the first year since 2002 that U$C has not been to a BCS Bowl. They still continue to do very well as far as recruiting.

I have a raised-in-California uncle that now resides in lower AL. He informed me that the NCAA is always after U$C because they win. I asked why the NCAA couldn't seem to catch Reggie Bush's momma-n-em in their condo. He said they were too busy investigating Bama and their escalades. I told him to have fun in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Nothing will come of this. Same as with Ohio St. and Notre Dame in the past.

Sadly, I believe you are right. The Bush case has been dragging on for forever it seems.

Who buys the gas???
It wouldn't take much of an investigation to see where the gas was bought and if it was on a credit card... A simple check of stations within a 5 mile area of Joe's apt, and of the Athletic facility will find that information.

Could they be that sloppy??? YES

They were sloppy with the benefit of a vehicle for Joe...
(Judge Roy Beam sez 'Hang em') Or was that Jim Beam talking...

Nothing will happen to USC. They're a media darling. The NCAA could have video of Pete Carroll selling meth to pre-schoolers out of the University president's office and NOTHING would happen to them.

USC car-gate

I laughed when I read this article.

From the LA Times
Trojans are playing with fire -- latimes.com

First red flag: When asked about the car, McKnight lies and claims he didn't drive it, even though he has been seen driving it regularly.

Why would you lie about driving a car if you didn't think you were breaking NCAA rules?

Second red flag: When asked about the car, Schenter refuses to respond to a flurry of e-mailed questions, then issues a statement only after The Times' initial story appears Saturday.

Schenter writes that his answers were delayed because he's in South Africa and the Internet is "expensive" there.

You spend $27,000 for a Land Rover for some employee, yet you can't afford the hookup at the Fairfield Inn Johannesburg?

Re: USC car-gate

The USC situation has gotten completely ridiculous. First Reggie Bush , then OJ Mayo and now McKnight. It is obvious that the somebody at USC has some friends in high places (or some big time dirt of their own on somebody at NCAA HQ)to continue to get away with these high profile violations. The NCAA cannot be trusted to enforce the rules evenly and should be forced to give over that aspect of its "mission" to an independent entity so that there can at least be the appearance of impartiality in these situations.

Re: USC car-gate

And how many games did Joe play in this year? :biggrin2:
Most schools set out a player rather than take a chance on having to forfeit a game or games...

Does 'Baby's Momma's Boss' pay any of their bills?
Does he maintain the insurance?
Who pays for the gas?

(Things sure have changed; I seem to remember doing a lot of walking and riding with friends when I was in college, but then, I was not a 'Blue Chip' athlete...)

Re: USC car-gate

Now let's not make too much of this. It's not like they got extra textbooks from the bookstore or anything. All they have done is received free housing for their families, money from agents and free vehicles. Geez. What's the big deal? Nothing to see here if you ask me.:conf2:

I just read this [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4758848"]SUV bought for USC tailback Joe McKnight's girlfriend, owner Scott Schenter says - ESPN[/ame] and obviously this Scott Schenter believes that everyone else is a fool. Just get a load of these statements:

In e-mails to the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News, Scott Schenter, a Santa Monica, Calif., businessman, said the car is driven by Johana Michelle Beltran -- McKnight's girlfriend -- and that he helped purchase the Land Rover because Beltran's family had trouble qualifying for a loan.
So you buy them a Land Rover? If they can't qualify for a loan, then either they don't make enough to pay the payments OR they have a poor history of paying for loans in the past. Either way, why not buy her something less expensive? Seems like a really poor investment to purchase a vehicle, in your name, for a girl who can't qualify for a loan unless you're using it as an investment device in some other manner. Sounds fishy to me. I just can't see any halfway competent businessman doing such a thing.

The risks are too great. If she doesn't pay the payments for any reason, he is on the hook for the loan. If she lets the insurance lapse and has a wreck, he's on the hook for the loan. I'm not sure about all the legalities, but if she were to have a wreck, injure a lot of people and/or destroy property and then left the scene and the authorities could not prove that she was driving the vehicle, the only legal entity that is available for civil penalties would appear to be Mr. Schenter. Legally, it is his vehicle if he is the registered owner and I would assume that, in absence of other proof, the assumption is that he is also the driver. That might not be enough proof for criminal penalties, but it probably would be enough for civil penalties.

If you were a businessman, would you risk all that for an employee who has a bad credit history or basically no credit history and wants a Land Rover? I generally don't have a good perception of people who attempt to live outside their means anyway. From my experience, they are usually not trustworthy and they're definitely not responsible (afterall, they're living spuriously on other people's money).

Schenter said a company he founded in May 2008, USC Marketing, stood for for "United States China Marketing," and that despite being an employee for the Los Angeles County's Assessor's office, he would "rather be known for my expertise in marketing and finance ventures."
Uh-huh. US China Marketing? It does seem that he has some indirect relationship with USC through McKnight, so he needs to show where he's been in some relationship with Chinese companies to legitimize his explanation of that name.

It wouldn't really matter if he could prove he wasn't driving. He is the owner of the car and I can guarantee you that the lawsuits would go after him as the deep pockets.

You may have hit on it right there. But, it'd have to be some good dirt for what they're getting away with. I'm talking about the real deal. Like some pictures of somebody with a goat kind of good dirt.
