Link: Weren't you glad this was on ABC instead of Fox?

Not really. I could not tell much difference. Reminded me of Dumb and Dumber. They were pro Texas all the way. But at least Orlando McCain had a good game.

ABC's game coverage much better than Fox

From my living room perspective, there was no contest. Fox needs to leave college football to the people that do college football.

I agree with you on this, Paul...so why not let the network guys give us their best picture and give the viewers the option of selecting either team's "homer" announcers for the audio. A good dose of Eli would have been welcome last night. I'm sure there is a technical solution for that which does not involve fighting radio delays.

I liked it for the simple fact of all the pageantry and commentary before and after the game. You may not like the announcers but I thought the panal was great and I liked Herbie and Musbeger over anyone from the dry NFL announcers on FOX. I also was very happy to see Keith Jackson at least a little part of the game.

The visuals were good last night (I don't have HD so I can make no comparison, though I did watch on my brother-in-law's HD). The commentary was really bad. The ABC crew did a fine job with our games with Clemson and VA Tech, but I thought both guys (Musberger and Herbie) was pretty rotten. Flame me if you want, but Verne and Gary did a better job on the SEC Championship game.

Musberger was a good announcer in his day (20+ years ago). Herbie doesn't offer much more than the average semi-informed fan would. After seeing them so many times this year, I wouldn't have minded seeing Verne and Gary do it. Their shortcoming are many (and well-document on this board), but I least I got used to and somewhat comfortable with their cadence, their mistakes, and their biases. Creature of habit, I guess...

Most of it was good but I thought it was pathetic that they cut to a commercial when Alabama first came out onto the field. That made me wonder. :conf2:

This this may be something that really bothered me only...

But I didn't like how the announcers seemed to be rooting for the Longhorns.:frown:

Especially at the end of the game when they said "Alabama won the game...but You've got to give credit to texas and blah blah blah..."

What was that about?

I mean I know the back up QB for Texas did well...but come on.

Even my Aubby loving hubby mentioned something about it.

I agree. Honestly the coverage made me miss Danielson/Lundquist and I never thought I'd say that. Seriously.
Herbstreit and Musberger had no excitement in the calls. I'm not asking them to be for one side or the other, but you could tell they were almost dismayed at the result of this game.
If you don't believe me, listen to the Mike Turiko (sp?) ESPN radio segment of the game being called and compare the two. A world of difference. Kirk & Brent were almost subdued there at the end like they were just getting thru the end there announcing Alabama was Nat'l Champs. I dunno, maybe it was me, but they really came across as flat and subdued. Very disappointing. I wish I'd had the radio on either Eli or ESPN radio.

I would also add the overall coverage was terrible in terms of going to and coming back from commercials. Cutting off segments of the game early or missing plays or bowl coverage due to those stupid commercials.

Can hardly stand having to listen to Musberger.

But, for the most part, it seemed the commercial breaks were pretty short, esp compared to the marathon of commercials CBS puts us through.

Yea, when I saw them cut Bama off when they came out on the field, I thought it was going to be a long night.

I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage though. I thought that they were pretty even handed in the coverage and it was nice that ESPN was basically on the same page as ABC. It was like having a 2 1/2 hour pregame show and then a post game show. To me, it turned out to be a lot better experience than anything CBS has ever offered. It was so nice not to have to hear Danielson. The announcers may have been much worse had McCoy not gone down but I thought they called a pretty good game.

I thought it was an overall pretty good experience.
