I don't mean to rain on the discussion, but...

It's simple, Allen is either coming to play for Alabama or will go sign with someone who will never play Alabama. And frankly we're loaded and are going to be an elite program regardless of what he does.

With that said, I'm tired of discussing the drama and all the speculation. Let him sign where he wants to sign and we'll move on accordingly. At some point all of the talk just becomes a waste of virtual breath.

Percy Harvin Florida with and than with out him.
How 'bout Alabama with or without Julio in 2008? Does Alabama go undefeated in the regular season? I do agree KA will have an immediate impact and provide a balance at reciever for Julio atleast for one year if he plays. The difference between now and 2008 will be the fact that we do have a deep corps of WR's who are stepping up and some new ones who can contribute . Didn't so much have that in 2008. Nothing against McCoy and Oakley and the frosh then, but we are truly set at WR right now.We win with him or without him. It would be one thing if we were shallow at reciever and DB. Anyway great class developing!!

I agree. 4 years ago, losing Allen would have been a death blow to a recruiting class. However, that simply isn't the case anymore...and that isn't a "homer" comment. When you see how Saban recruits and how he develops players, you stop worrying about how one prospect is doing.

And I will add one more point...

If Allen goes to Clemson, we will "only" have ELEVEN wide receiver prospects on the roster that were rated as four-star recruits or higher.

We'll live.

BamaRich commented the other day that he'd make one spectacular free safety, which is going to be a need position for us. One of our few weak points this last season was, on occasion, safety play. Of course, from time to time, our receivers also had trouble getting separation...

I agree plus if K Kelly a 6'3 210 WR from last years class who got reshirted due to an injury and room on the roster can compete to his expectations I am not concerned with KA going elsewhere. We actually have more WR on the roster and incoming that are true WR, which KA is not. KA is a great kid but what is the difference of him not coming here, if that is what happens, and all the other 5 stars that turned us down this year. I do not see the difference, except he commited to us and people seem to take it personal now.

I don't care what you guys say, this decision will effect our success for the next 3 or 4 years. You just CANNOT miss on a 5 star ATH like this. You can't win without their participation. I shudder to think what it would be like if we had missed on BJ Scott in the '08 class. You have to get big plays from those dynamic athletes to win championships. Oh wait...

Yep, we missed on Tim Tebow and were completely unable to win any games or compete for any conference or national championships from that point forward.

Edit: LOL - just noticed the last too words. Good post :)

Have to come up with a better example than that - Harvin didn't play in the SEC championship game and UF still defeated Alabama.

Maybe it is a good example though - when an elite program loses a player, another one steps up.

If you're going to use someone as an example, don't use Tebow. The school we lost him to ended up winning 2 National Titles with him at the helm.

Use someone like Fred Rouse.

To me, the juiciest irony of all is that, if Tebow had signed with Shula, he'd be much better prepared for an NFL career. Whatever negatives CMS had, he was a decent QB coach, which is why he's been able to catch on again in the NFl. Tebow would have been running a pro set from under center and that funky throwing motion would have been history. I guess Urban loved Tim too much to ask him to change...

If Bama had gotten Tebow, we'd probably still have Shula. To me, it was worth Tim going to uf.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

Here is my concern...

I'm not worried about Cal, really, I'm worried about Clemson. And speaking of Clemson, they had a freshman at quarterback (Kyle Parker) play pretty dang well last year, and he was a highly-touted recruit out of Jacksonville. And that is not considering the fact that Boyd, a five-star QB from the 2009 class, redshirted last year.

So they've got two highly-touted young quarterbacks... so I'll ask this, is there any way in hell that Clemson would ever take Maynard unless he had little brother in tow? I say no way. Why in the world take on a transfer with only two years left who didn't even do anything special at Buffalo? He'll be the third-string QB at best up there, and may never make it off the scout team. In and of himself, he's a complete and total waste of a scholarship.

That's my concern... Maynard is going to either Clemson or Cal, and frankly I don't think he's good enough to legitimately warrant an offer to either school on his own. Without his brother in tow, I don't think either school would take his commitment.

My thinking is that our only chance is if his brother goes to Cal. The only way he goes to Clemson is if Keenan stamps his meal ticket there.
One thing that gets me is that the two have been separated now for at least two years, and now they're inseparable? I'm afraid mom has given KA marching orders to get his bro a scholly somewhere nearby. I discount the CA angle...

Nice post... others are saying around it and a few have mentioned it. At this point in the process, we should be past being torn up if a 5-star recruit doesn't decide to roll with us. During the Shula years... absolutely. During the first year of CNS's tenure... maybe. But not now. When Shula was coaching, I'd live and die with these kind of decisions. Now, if we lose a highly rated kid, CNS automatically replaces him with another high caliber kid. Therefore, I don't get too upset if we lose a kid here and there.

BTW... as Earle stated, I do believe KA's ceiling is higher at DB than WR simply because you don't see his kind of speed in a FS very often. And I believe he'd play more starting off at DB than at WR for us right now.

I have had the same outlook while reading the story unfold but I didn't want to seem too negative. I actually feel sorry for Keenan. They want to play together but yet when his brother chose a school he went to Buffalo? It doesn't seem like them attending the same school was that important when his brother was choosing a school. Now it just feels like Keenan may have to change his FUTURE to accommodate others. Again, I am not trying to blast anyone, just explaining why I am sympathetic towards Keenan in this situation.

I think the situation involves the family wanting Zach Maynard to get a scholly to a good program more than it does the brothers wanting to play together.

If Keenan says "no" to Clemson, Clemson returns the favor to his brother, and big brother is out in the cold...

You missed the point - what you stated is exactly why I used Tebow as an example.

Tebow is arguably the biggest single player difference maker in college football history.

Even with Alabama missing out on Tebow, Alabama still finished 2 regular seasons unbeaten, won a division crown, won a SEC championship and a BCS national championship - and we were a program that was total disarray just 3 years ago. We even beat Tebow's team to do it.

If we can do all of that even while missing out on someone who truly lived up to his "superman" hype, then we'll be just fine losing any one single recruit.
