I am going to consider KA as being decommitted. If he decides to re-commit to Bama then so be it, but I am not going to hold my breathe. I will believe CNS already knew about this for awhile and has been working on a back up plan.

i don't think that means there has been a new development, i think that's just BOL finnally deciding to take him off
Exactly.

This is not actual news, per se. Keenan Allen and family are talking to absolutely no one at this point. There is literally no possible source out there to provide any information. Impossible. Period. You've got a better chance of chasing down Elvis at the local Burger King for a comment on his death than you have of getting a peep out of Allen and company right now.

In reality, this "news" is just a reflection of the reality that no one expects Allen to sign with Alabama. At some point, you lose a lot of credibility when you have a kid as committed to one school but no one expected him to go there, so you make some changes like this.

I would say that not only has he worked on a back-up plan, he has put that plan into action and the prospect we wanted is now all but signed, sealed, and delivered.

Still hope he comes but doesn't look like it. Can't fault the kid for wanting to play with family and trying to help him get a scholly. With that said, hate it for him, it's his loss.

If he doesn't end up at Alabama, Cal would be a far better choice than Clemson.

I don't see Clemson coaching either brother up any more than Cal would and a degree from Berkley is one of those most prestigious in the country.
Yeah, I would agree on the academics.

However, I've also heard that his family wants to move out to wherever he goes to school and I hope that his folks have looked at the cost of living in Berkeley because it is EXPEN$IVE.

It took me all of about 5 minutes of looking at home prices, etc. in the Bay Area to turn down a very nice job offer from out there - and that's compared to DC. There's no telling what they're used to in North Carolina.

Maybe Allen will wise up after his folks do a little internet research.

If he has changed his mind, good luck to him.I for one would have to think long and hard if I was his half bro about taking him away from a NC team to go to Cal Or Clem for me to gain a scholly to play with him. :BigA:

Has he announced the decommitment himself? I wouldn't trust BOL as the sole source on this...
no he hasn't...

There's no "official" decommitment... but of course we all know when you shop you're "decommitted"...of course, no real news at all to anyone who's been following this kid...

Very weird, the whole thing...

I have felt he was going to Cal ever since the news came out that G. King and another friend of his (name I forget) were meeting him at Cal this past weekend. If you remember,he has had a strong hankering to go to the west coast for some time now.

If he's truly decommitted, so be it. I wish him well and can't fault him for wanting to play with his brother. Unfortunately, that also means that while he might make a name for himself, he likely also won't get to experience what it's like to play in a national championship. I suppose if you are just looking at the ultimate destination (the NFL) though, featured playing time is enough.

If he goes to Cal or Clemson so be it, but it looks to me like he and his family are working the coaches for a scholly for the half brother. He signed with Buffalo out of HS, so I doubt that he is a blue chip player himself.

Gotta' be tough to be an 18 y.o. player with great potential and trying to make a college decision. KA's decision is even tougher due to the brother factor. I wish him the best, whatever he decides.

Well I just want to be clear here. I am not saying Bama does not have a chance at Allen. This thread is about the fact that Rivals.com/BOL are both now reporting that Allen has decommitted. We knew that Allen was looking at both Clemson and California and taking visits to see those schools.

Allen is still considering Bama but if he does indeed want to play with his brother, which is being reported, then I just don't see that happening at Bama. There is still a slight chance that this is all about getting his brother Zach Maynard into a good school to play QB and Allen will still commit to Bama. However it is being reported that his family has said that they will move to whatever school the two decide to play together. Also Allen's HS coach has said that Allen will announce his decision on NSD. The mere fact that Allen is announcing his decision on NSD means that he has decommitted from Bama.

Scout.com/Bama Mag are still reporting that Allen is an Alabama soft commit.

Scout.com: Keenan Allen Profile

Four out of five Rivals.com analysts in the article below are picking Allen to sign with California. Jamie Newberg still thinks Allen will sign with Bama.

If the parents are moving to the city where the two will be playing football at, then it is not going to be Tuscaloosa. Maynard will not play a down at Bama, so deductive reasoning tells us they end up at Cal or Clemson.

this whole Allen thing is really funny and sad at the same time..

it started with rumors that Allen was "unhappy" the way CNS responded to the Gatorade splashing in the BCSCG. rumblings of his "dissatisfaction" with our vanilla offense where WRs are not really main components in the scheme of things. Allen became very quiet and no one really knows whether he was still committed to Bama or not outside of our coaching staff.

then a few weeks ago it went from Allen taking trips with his brother and family to find a home for his brother to play. from all indications, CNS and Bama staff were fully aware and very supportive.

NOW, its Allen wanting to play with his brother and most likely decommitted from Bama and heading to Cal where his HS buddy King is going to commit?!?!

whatever...wake me up after NSD.

this has got to be one of the most weird recruitments of a player I have seen. With all the past history of Allen and Bama this is surprising to me. He was rumored to be a Bama lock back last summer I think and then now this. Good luck to him where ever he goes, I would have liked to seen him in Crimson.

Yep, more and more stuff unfavorable to us keeps turning up. Families can sure screw up football... :D
