He got the boot several years ago. The students voted to decide if he should be replaced by a new mascot. It will be interesting to see what they select now that they have decided to replace Colonel Reb.

Would they stop being the rebels? I know there is some controversy there and I don't want to get into that, but the Old South IS the heart and soul of Ole Miss, and good or bad, changing that would be like Crimson Pants or a helmet with the script A on it...

I won't switch teams or anything that drastic, but Ole Miss will move to a solid #2 Favorite for me in the conference if they actually choose Admiral Ackbar as their new mascot. I will buy merchandise, everything....

The Col. Reb mascot goes back to 1938. That's a while, but not really that ancient. Of course, for recruiting purposes, I'd wish that they'd keep him, the Confederate naval banner (the army banner was square), and adopt "Ole Black Joe" as an anthem. (To be honest there's a larger % of their fans base who'd agree with all three than any other in the SEC.) However, next best would be no mascot, no banner and no school song...

This is in no way an invitation to open up any sort of political or religious debate , but .....

"Ackbar" :conf3: "Star Wars" ? I wonder just how long this was pondered ... about a half a second ? If any choice could ever be worse than "Johnny Reb" , OM may have managed to stumble upon one . While the spelling is obviously different from the war cry of our sworn Jihadist enemies , it's definately close enough to draw instant discomfort or even fury . OM could easily do better . MUCH better . JMO

All my Ole Miss buddies have been silent since we won the NC and now....... well, they won't even start to discuss football.
