:conf3:Question? If you sign as free agent...you get the league minimum? Or is it kinda like a tryout and then when the season comes if you make the roster...they keep you and you get the league minimum. :conf3:

I would assume the amt they could offer would be flexible, ie if one player had several FA offers he'd take the one that paid the most.

But I really dont know.

I think how it works is they sign you as a free agent and say give you 50k to come and sign and wrok with the team and see if you can make the roster. if you are good enough to keep and make the cutt....then you make the roster and get the league minimum(325,000). Kinda like JP did a while back. He made the 3rd string with the falcons and got his 250,000 back then.

I would love 325,000 to sit the bench any day!

I'm sure the pay on the practice squad is not too bad, maybe 40k to 50k? Just my guess. Maybe a little higher. Anyone know?

Fun fact on undrafted free agent rookies:

"Player contracts are not guaranteed; teams are only required to pay on the contract as long as the player remains a member of the team. If the player is cut, or quits, for any reason, the balance of the contract is voided and the player receives no further compensation."
BTW, undrafted free agent rookies do not get "signing bonuses" or "upfront money".

The minimum salary from 2008-2010 is $5,200 per week for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000. (Some practice squad players are paid considerably more, however. In 2006, the New England Patriots paid third-year player Billy Yates the full $425,000 he would have earned on the active roster.)

From Article XXXIV, Section 3 of the NFL collective bargaining agreement.

$88,400 ain't bad money to be on the practice squad.

Yes, but they have a lot of expenses, also...
:conf3:

I know the rookies have to buy the veterans food and such, but what would the practice squad have to spend a lot on?

I just flew Demaryius Thomas ("Bay Bay" from Ga. Tech) back from his mini-camp @ Denver. He was saying he spent $700 on "stuff" for the veterans while at mini-camp. That's nothing for a 1st-round draft pick though....peanuts. No telling what kind of money he'll be making as their 1st draft pick.

... and they are not paid until aftr the game, but they do get a per diem for the OTA's and camps in the $1,000 range.

JP should be getting a raise. For the 2010 season, the salary for player with 1 yr experience is $400,000.
