BTW, undrafted free agent rookies do not get "signing bonuses" or "upfront money"."Player contracts are not guaranteed; teams are only required to pay on the contract as long as the player remains a member of the team. If the player is cut, or quits, for any reason, the balance of the contract is voided and the player receives no further compensation."
The minimum salary from 2008-2010 is $5,200 per week for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000. (Some practice squad players are paid considerably more, however. In 2006, the New England Patriots paid third-year player Billy Yates the full $425,000 he would have earned on the active roster.)I'm sure the pay on the practice squad is not too bad, maybe 40k to 50k? Just my guess. Maybe a little higher. Anyone know?
$88,400 ain't bad money to be on the practice squad. The minimum salary from 2008-2010 is $5,200 per week for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000. You are correct. This is how it works.I think how it works is they sign you as a free agent and say give you 50k to come and sign and wrok with the team and see if you can make the roster. if you are good enough to keep and make the cutt....then you make the roster and get the league minimum(325,000). Kinda like JP did a while back. He made the 3rd string with the falcons and got his 250,000 back then.
I would love 325,000 to sit the bench any day!
JP should be getting a raise. For the 2010 season, the salary for player with 1 yr experience is $400,000.I think how it works is they sign you as a free agent and say give you 50k to come and sign and wrok with the team and see if you can make the roster. if you are good enough to keep and make the cutt....then you make the roster and get the league minimum(325,000).
