Link: NCAA Report on USC Coming Down This Week

Some people would say "You just hate USC" and that would most likely be a true statement. But it's been too long. They should have had the penalties brought upon them long ago when these reports first surfaced.

If this were any other University (Notre Dame included) action would have been taken a lot quicker than this.

Basically, the changes significantly raised the standard for overturning sanctions. There has to be blatant abuse of discretion or procedural errors.

Of course, the sanctions over the Means case would still warrant an appeal, as the infractions committee admitted that they broke their own rules.
That's essentially true. In the past, Appeals could reverse just because they disagreed with the sanctions imposed

It is quite interesting... if the NCAA is fair with USC, USC will get hammered. In turn, the landscape of the Pac-10 could end up dramatically more difficult. This could be the end of USC as a elite football team, period.

No way, they'll be back simply because they are an elite program. The things that made them an elite program in the past will ensure that they return to elite status in the future.

USC simply has too many things going for them to just fade away. They have oodles of $$$$, great support and tons of talent almost within walking distance of the campus to recruit from.

Here's a little more proof. Nebraska is clawing their way back to elite status at the moment after being written off by a lot of folks. They were written off because they have almost no talent base to recruit from, sometimes have to play in brutal weather and Lord knows, Lincoln, Nebraska is hardly attractive to recruit to. But, they have great support and plenty of money and are coming back. If Nebraska can do it, it'll be much easier for the Condoms.

I just hope USC has some crippling sanctions to overcome before they can come back and I hope Kiffin has to suffer through all of them before he and Pappy get sent packing.

RT @BryanDFischer Carroll on if he would be surprised if the NCAA sanctioned USC: "I would be surprised if there are (sanctions)."

Just saw this posted by Bruce Feldman on Twitter. So Pete would be surprised if there were sanctions. Hmmmm is that why you bailed to Seattle then?

He also said that Cushing didn't fail any drug tests and wasn't on PEDs...

So either the penalties were leaked to USC and they were so harsh , people with power got involved and delayed the report. The NCAA might be reviewing the punishment and making changes. Its all speculation. But one thing is for sure a proven winning coach would have not taken the HC job like lame kitten did. He is their Mike Shula and it will be fun to see the beat downs he takes over the next 3 years when the sanctions hit. I think the NCAA cannot afford to let them skate. What if they do let them off and the presidents and AD's of other schools form several super conferences. They can take the monies paid to the NCAA and form a new governing body. Coach Bryant took the first step with the old CFL. I actually hope they let USC skate so all the heat will be on them until the colleges do something about them.

So I wonder when the results will be released. I hope they are punished harshly, but as many posters have already stated the NCAA has a habit of messing these things up.

Historically the longer it drags out the worse it gets. Maybe they are still looking at what to do about Joe McKnight, Matt Linehert & his room mate sharing an apartment Matt's dad paid for, maybe there are other things we haven't seen yet even minor things. One of Alabama's violations is a player taking a nap at a coaches house and getting an aspirin for a headache. If Pete Carrol and his staff didn't know anything was going on with Reggie Bush they were the most blind and stupid coaches in college football. You don't walk into a lion's den wearing a pork chop suit and expect to walk out alive. USC is a repeat offender during the time the accusations took place.

Some of the rules that the NCAA has are just ridiculous. I have seen the NCAA regs book, its almost 700 pages. Some of the rules are just weird.

I certainly hope you are correct bayou....I would be pleasantly surprised...

Most of the usc boards I have checked seem to be very optimistic about the ncaa punishment. OTOH We sounded like that before book-gate, so who knows?

All that's right. But the prediction presupposes logic and justice on the part of the NCAA. I'd just as soon throw myself on the tender mercies and thought processes of the denizens of a crack house.

If there's justice, USCw will be pilloried. With the NCAA in charge, I expect fewer than five scholarships over two years, and no more than one year of bowl ban.

I hope I'm wrong, and it's not what they draw up in Sunday School, but I think they're essentially going to skate.

.

This would be a good thing. The obvious disparity in treatment of USC compared to Alabama - and arguably by extension any other non-PacTen/BigTen school - might... just might... be the catalyst that causes the SEC, ACC, & Big 12 PTB to start thinking seriously about leaving the NCAA and creating a more suitable replacement entity.
