ABC 33/40 just said Maryland has already talked to Malzahn..Would be a great hire for Maryland should he take the job..
Yep, hiring a guy who's a genius OC and seeing how he works out as a Head Coach has been great for Maryland thus far!
Prior to being HC at Maryland, Friedgen took Georgia Tech to amazing heights as Offensive Coordinator, including a share of the 1990 National Championship (they should've won the AP poll too, but Colorado got 5 downs).

I think it would be hilarious if he left after the Aubs already let out a sigh of relief over him staying. That said, I thought he was staying and Maryland had a coach- both of them either need to do it or get off the pot.

Malzahn is going to be at AU until a decent job comes open, I would not consider Vandy or Maryland decent jobs, no fan support at either school. As for the NCAA coming down on AU, do not hold your breath. Let's see we now have:

1. Football season
2. Recruiting season
3. Spring football season, and now the newest season
4. Rumor and Speculation season.

That's what i thought, Leach was already next in line. What happened with that?
Me too. Maybe the TxTech BoR reached out to the Maryland peeps to give Leach the finger just one more time. Two things I've learned this past year- apparently NCAA rules and football coaching contracts are much more matters of convenience than something to actually abide by.

I like it, though...rumors about the circus master keeps the barners' undies bunched up, and that couldn't happen to a more deserving group.

Actually, it did work out pretty well for Maryland.

Maryland was coming off a 13 year span (3 different coaches) where they won less than 40% of their games. And they went to 1 bowl game in that span.

Friedgen took over and immediately improved the program, winning almost 60% of his games and going to 7 bowl games in the 10 years. For Maryland, that was a huge upgrade. It made the program more attractive to top tier coordinator candidates (like Malzahn) and successful head coaches (Mike Leach).

Didn't you also say nothing would happen to USC? ;)

This is classic Jimmy Sexton. As soon as Gus turned down Vandy who many thought was a done deal you knew there was another offer. I believe the Maryland pres. was not comfortable with Leach and thus no deal. If you were Gus would you rather coach in a BCS aq conf. with Vandy in the SEC or Maryland in the ACC? This is a no brainer.

My understanding is that the Under Armour apparel CEO is a Maryland alum/booster and has a very tight relationship with Mike Leach, hence the interest there. That seemed to be the preordained outcome, but has somehow been derailed or at least delayed. Leach is polarizing, so who knows what happened.

Maryland is a good job. It's a big school with a big base as the only major D1 program in the D.C./Baltimore metro area. There's potential recruiting reach all up and down the East Coast, and ACC is ripe for the picking in terms of a establishing a dominant program.

Malzahn could do a lot worse. The question is whether he steps out and goes for a Top 25 or 30 program like Maryland or if he holds out and draws elite coordinator pay and gambles on getting a Top 10 job down the line.
