Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

After a 12-hour break from the thread, couple of observations I've come up with. First, while I feel for the family with everything that they are having to deal with, AU has to be cringing every moment this soap opera drags on. The longer it goes, the more info makes the light of day like the "Blue Tune Tides" composition. I hate a family like the Kouandjio's are having to suffer through all this mess, but I really believe it's going to be some things like this that will cause the SEC/NCAA to wise up.

Two, some folks really need to go to be when it gets late at night. :) Seriously, one of the better things to do is to take some time off and focus on other things... like Jess N.'s article stickied up top. Guys, we've got a terrific class coming in and regardless what CK or JC decides, we've again got the Rivals #1 class in the country. Enjoy.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I think you must be confused. There is no way a state school with 20000 students is filling their class with better students than that.
That's what I was thinking. They may be on a waiting list for a scholarship but not for standard admission. Both Alabama and Auburn would love to have more 4.0 students with 30+ ACT scores, I would think. I never met many students with those qualifications when I was in school at Bama. Of course, that was twenty years ago.

My brother and I went to BAMA and we both got into Auburn. He had lower scores than me and got into Auburn with 3.0 GPA and 21 on his ACT--this was 3 years ago. Auburn claims to be so much more competitive but I think they only average 1 point higher on their ACT scores

The point is, they are FULL. Everyone else is on a waiting list. So, no. I am not confused. I personally know of 10-15 kids with stellar grades and test scores who are waiting on admission. Most of them also have parents who graduated from Auburn.

ETA: This information comes to me from parents who are going through this process. It is not hearsay. If you choose to argue the information, so be it. This is what these parents told me based on their personal experiences.

Bone recently tweeted that we shouldn't expect a decision today. He said "the chances of Cyrus making a decision today are slim."

OK. Whatever you say. But regardless, if you don't think Auburn would find a spot to get CK to come play left tackle, you are crazy.
Obviously, you did NOT read my entire first post. Why don't you go back and do that and see what it says about CK's girlfriend. ;) Something about pulling some strings, etc...If CK wants his girlfriend in Auburn, or Bama for that matter, she WILL get accepted.

Some of you people are super pi**y today. Go back to bed!!!

One of the first battles CNS won at Bama, with his first recruiting class, was a showdown with Admissions. Two players who met NCAA/SEC players were about to be denied admission because UA's requirements were higher. Since then there've been no more problems with Admissions. I'd point out that both Vandy and Notre Dame have players who didn't meet the usual admission standards...

Perhaps the most enlightening thing I've read in the last several pages is that all this may hinge on a "girl."

If we are wondering why he might be confused this could certainly explain a lot. When you are 17 a girl can mess with your mind. It may have less to do with Bama and Auburn than we think.

If it is a girl thing, I think this is where his family will really be able to help him sort through things that pertain to "now" and then things that pertain to the "future."

Doesn't South Carolina have higher admission standards than what is required by the NCAA as well?

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I think you're right if the kid was more than likely going to be "the starter" from day 1. But I'm not sure anybody is ready to go ahead and step out on that limb with Douglas on campus. If Cyrus turns out to be the stud many are saying he could be then if it takes him a RS year to become that stud then it is very likely we don't get three full playing years out of him. With players looking to jump to the NFL as quick as possible it is hard to plan and/or recruit with a 3-4 year window in mind. Because many of these kids are only on campus for three years then you have those that RS (Sydney Rice of USCe comes to mind) that leave after their RS Sophomore year. I'm not saying I don't agree with you its just become harder and harder to realistically plan out that far with any sort of accuracy.
Aaron Douglas will more than likely be a one year and out guy...dont see him staying for two when he'll be eligible for the draft...that is if he has a solid year at a div-I school.

just sayin...

I blame a lot of this on Trooper. Productive recruiter or not, it's obvious he's more interested in getting the recruit than being interested in the recruit.

You know, I try and be as open minded as I can be about these things, but I honestly have no idea what Auburn has to offer these kids. I don't understand how a person like Trooper Taylor could inspire you to do anything other than punch him in the face.
THIS we can definitely agree on!! Do you ever get the urge to grab his towel and pop him with it repeatedly? I do.

On a side note, CK's coach is not at school today. Fox Sports' Kristen Kenney is headed to DeMatha to try and talk to Cyrus. FWIW.

Supposedly she's the first non family/coach to interview him since all this went down. His college choice will come VIA a call to the coach of his destination school and not a formal announcment. Anyway Kristen Kenny has the interview and anyone who follows her on twitter gets the payday because Cyrus will apparently tell her his choice. Maybe we get some news soon.

He inspires me to do that every time I see him on TV! ;)

Seriously though, Troopah appeals to the "dark side" of these kids. There's no denying that a lot of young kids envy that "rapper" lifestyle. Flamboyant, wild, partying. Believe it or not, bouncing around waving a towel actually excites some kids.

Basically he sells them on being able to just goof off and have "fun," unlike that mean old guy across the state who will just make work your butt off 24/7.

He talks a good game from the perspective of a teenager. What other demographic is as easy to sell a bill of goods to as teenagers? Their buttons are generally pretty easy to push. I'm sure a lot of his pitch revolves around the success of guys like Newton and Fairley in regard to them playing a single season and then going to the NFL and the fact that CK would step onto campus as the starting left tackle - without any competition. Of course, API signed three other four-star linemen and already have some young players on campus, who although inexperienced as far as playing time, have been in the system - but that fact probably was not given much attention by good ol' Trooper. I'm sure the fact that API's offensive system doesn't really showcase CK's road-grading style of run blocking didn't come up either.

Maybe my conspiracy hat is on too tight, but I have to wonder where Coach McGregor is today.

MB, I'm not saying your famly is dirty or anything. The Kouandjio family has been great through this. Coach McGrego just seems to be an interesting character, though.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Exactly right. Trust me, kids with 4.0 GPAs and 30s on the ACT don't have to linger on any waiting lists at any public university in the South.
And probably not at any public university anywhere unless they are from out of state.

Yeah...I'd gladly take Scott "4th Quarter is Our Quarter" Cochran over Trooper "Look at my cute little towel" Taylor 7 days a week...and twice on Sunday.
