Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

2 I know of:
UC-Berkeley
U of Virginia

A 4.0 isn't what it used to be - with all the AP & IB courses offering over 4 for an A at most high schools.
That's true. I was thinking about a 4.0 out of a possible 4.0...and it doesn't always work like that these days.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

If CK's girlfriend is really waiting to see where she gets in, it won't be Auburn unless someone pulls some serious strings. I have friends whose children are 4.0 students with 30 ACT's who are "legacies" to Auburn and are on a waiting list. For the life of me, I have never "gotten" the Auburn thing. The campus is ugly--the buildings have no architectural or historical value and the campus is spread out in a weird way. There is NO comparing the two campuses--Alabama is hands down one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. It is RICH in history and rich in 21st century goodness. There is nowhere more beautiful and historical than our Quad.
I got accepted to Auburn no problem, and I had a 4.0 GPA. Weird. It's an ugly, trashy campus.

I'll keep checking but like you I hope Cyrus doesn't take this much time to decide whether or not to blow up a blitzing defensive player unless he does sign with Auburn ;)

I did, too, back in 1987. I didn't even apply either. I remember checking on my ACT, which colleges to send my scores and put Bama, Georgia and Auburn. I got an acceptance letter to Auburn without sending anything in to them, other than the ACT score.

I think things have changed though. I am not saying that all my friends kids had 4.0's and 30s on the ACT. Some of them did, some didn't.

If Cyrus was to end up at auburn, would this be the first instance of one brother playing at Alabama while the other played at auburn?

They may, but I'm not familiar with it. I'm still waiting for Saban 14 to weigh in on the girl issue... :D
Hahaha, *raises hand to speak*

If his girlfriend wants him to go to AU, we are done for. lol. Wonder how a huge Bama fan like me who hates Auburn went to...Auburn? Yep, a beautiful young lady. Wonder why we broke up and I get sick every time I see a large cow pasture? Auburn :). When will we learn?

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Seconded.... I've been randomly checking this board for the past 24 hours and have only found about 1 post per page with any kind of pertinent information to Cyrus's decision.
Go to yahoo sports search bar and enter Cyrus’s name. Maybe I am missing something here, because it is apparent that he wanted to go somewhere else to me. I just feel he has not changed his mind and his family is trying to convince him to do so.

"Kouandjio had already done his homework a bit about Iowa heading into the visit.
“They have a good tradition, they put offensive linemen in the league and it’s kind of an offensive line school,” he said. “That’s what really drew me to them in addition to the connection with Marcus. The coaches showed me some tapes of Robert Gallery and Bryan Bulaga and how I could be that next guy there so it was good.”
One thing Kouandjio has mentioned in the past has been his preference of warmer weather. So how did he like the cold of Iowa?
“It was 11 degrees,” he said. “It was take-your-breath-away cold, but it was fine. That’s not a factor for me.”
Next up for Kouandjio is a trip to Auburn this weekend before he makes his decision next week.
“Auburn came in when Miami fell out for me, right around the time Randy Shannon got fired,” he said. “They started recruiting me even harder and said how much they needed offensive linemen and I became interested because they were winning, they were the No. 1 team in the country and they had an exciting offense. So I started talking to them and I decided to take my last visit there. I’m looking forward to checking them out this weekend.”
Kouandjio has already been on official visits to New Mexico and to Alabama and has had coaches coming and going all week.
“Auburn was in earlier this week, Iowa is supposed to come sometime this week, New Mexico will be here Thursday and so will Alabama,” he said. “Then I’ll take the visit this weekend, shut it down and decide on Signing Day.”
Kouandjio talked a little about his other two favorites, New Mexico and Alabama.
“New Mexico is a nice place and I’ve been out there as many times as I’ve been anyplace,” he said. “It’s a place where I could really make my mark and make a difference. Alabama is a great program, in the SEC and they run power football as well. Everyone thinks I’m going there because Arie (his older brother, 2010 signee Arie Kouandjio) is there, but that’s not really a factor. I have to do what’s right for me and we both agree on that. But I like Alabama a lot. Right now no one is ahead, I have to sit down and talk things over after my last visit.”
And would he choose Auburn, the hated rival of his brother’s Alabama team, if it came down to it?
Yeah, why not?” he said. “If that’s where I felt the best. But I haven’t even taken that visit so there’s no point really worrying about all that yet. But Arie and I don’t care about that stuff.”
Kouandjio said he will announce his decision on Signing Day, Feb. 2 but isn’t sure what time. It will be at his school.

If Momma wants him at Bama..I think Mom wins out..There's plenty of Ladies out there..But you only have one Mom..Going to a school just cause of a GF & not for your football priority..That's dangerous & distracting for your football career if ya ask me..GF's will come & go..You only get one shot at making to the NFL..JMO

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I believe there is just way too much publicity in recruiting; too much media attention is given to these kids and it places a tremendous amount of pressure on them. NSD is played out like another football season and the first place team is almost as good as a BCS championship (so it seems). I like to follow recruiting and it can be exciting, but the coaches and fans need to lay off these kids and let them be kids.
I agree. A smart first step in eliminating all the hoopla associated with recruiting would be shutting down the Under Armor and Army All-American games. There are way to many All Star games that attract every media outlet. The coarse of a season is plenty enough time to evaluate players. These All Star games are built to make money. Not to mention the injury aspects sans Marvin Shinn. These games seem to be at the center of all the media hype that builds these kids egos into that of a monster.

I really don't believe the story about his girlfriend wanting to be accepted, etc. If she is accepted to one, she will be accepted to the other.
