Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

You know, I try and be as open minded as I can be about these things, but I honestly have no idea what Auburn has to offer these kids. I don't understand how a person like Trooper Taylor could inspire you to do anything other than punch him in the face.
I went to the Ole Miss/Auburn game this year here in O-Town. I thought about charging the field and punching him in the face.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

If CK's girlfriend is really waiting to see where she gets in, it won't be Auburn unless someone pulls some serious strings. I have friends whose children are 4.0 students with 30 ACT's who are "legacies" to Auburn and are on a waiting list. For the life of me, I have never "gotten" the Auburn thing. The campus is ugly--the buildings have no architectural or historical value and the campus is spread out in a weird way. There is NO comparing the two campuses--Alabama is hands down one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. It is RICH in history and rich in 21st century goodness. There is nowhere more beautiful and historical than our Quad.[/QUOTE]

Let me 2nd what you just said. There is NO comparison. I've been to Aubarn only ONCE and once was tooooo many times.

When you see signs entering the state that say "Alabama The Beautiful", they are NOT talking about that Barn in southwest Georgia!

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Maybe my conspiracy hat is on too tight, but I have to wonder where Coach McGregor is today.

MB, I'm not saying your famly is dirty or anything. The Kouandjio family has been great through this. Coach McGrego just seems to be an interesting character, though.
I agree. I also have to reiterate that I have NEVER thought the K family was involved with anything shady. There is no proof that Coach McGregor is, either. There are just TOO many coincidences to ignore it. I hope that this man who has devoted 28 years of his life to making kids into productive people in society wouldn't suddenly turn rogue. Sure, he has an impressive list of kids he put in D-1 schools, but none of those schools can hold a candle to the SEC schools he is now connected with.

Alabama is blessed to have Arie Kouandjio on our campus and blessed to have his amazing family along with him. I hope they can enjoy watching their children play football and watching them both become successful off of the field as well. I send prayers and peace to their family as they hopefully put the issue of where CK plays ball to rest this weekend. Roll Tide!

And probably not at any public university anywhere unless they are from out of state.
2 I know of:
UC-Berkeley
U of Virginia

A 4.0 isn't what it used to be - with all the AP & IB courses offering over 4 for an A at most high schools.

Is there an Under Armour (with its Maryland influence) versus Nike issue going on here?
As absurd as it sounds, it seems the UA all-star game created a lot of problems for us.

I see nothing wrong with someone wanting to take their time to make the best decision for them. I wish CK the best and hope his family sticks around.

It does sound absurd, but it sure wouldn't surprise me.

will be interesting to see if anything happens at school today. The head coach is reportedly not there.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I personally thought the family handled this about as well as you possibly can. They handled it with class and dignity. And I thought Cyrus was just being honest based on what was going on in his head and heart at the time he committed. But anybody who watched the commitment live knew that Cyrus was not convinced and was apparently confused. Nobody wants that for their kid. So he just needs to take his time...sort through the feelings and facts and make a decision. I feel sure that the father is sorting through what Cyrus was told while at Auburn and getting the facts straight instead of the barn's version which probably includes being told it would cost Arie a spot if he committed to the Tide. If Auburn is his choice...then fine. I personally think that would be a mistake but everyone is entitled to make a mistake. I'm glad we have Arie.

TIFWIW, but I have been told Arie is flying home to spend time with the family this weekend. May be next week before we hear where he is headed, but I think if true, this bodes well for us.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I really believe that the longer it takes.......the better the odds are that Alabama will land CK. I am not saying the longer it takes that he'll sign with Alabama. But I think it only increases Alabama's chances the longer it goes. If CK had come out the next morning and sent in a LOI, I think it would have most certainly been to Auburn. Because it would have gone down like this...the dad spoke to CK to make sure he was sure about his facts and what was reported to him. The father was convinced CK was committing for the right reasons and bang.....he sent out the LOI. So the fact that this is dragging out means there is more clarity that comes with additional time and separation and knowing the real facts versus the barn's version. It is so easy to get confused when you are 17 and if CK had not had the time to talk to his family....then I can see why he would have been confused. Having that time and ability to talk to the family is like coming through the clouds at 30,000 feet altitude to see what is real. So I see that as a good thing for CK and for us. Whether that translates into a LOI for us, I'm not sure.

Yeah. I wonder if that is a good or bad thing for us.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Obviously y'all can follow what you want to in recruiting but Twitter and Facebook will probably drive me from being very involved in recruiting, if this sort of thing keeps up. A kid posts a joke about where he is going and it goes viral, A kids friend gets his friends I-phone and posts a joke about the prospect going elsewhere the day before NSD and it goes viral and is even corrected on national TV. A Scout.com analyst tweets a report that CK will decided today between AU and UA and a family member has to come on here and correct his erroneous tweet. Someone hangs a fake post supposedly from Kouandjio on his wall that he has decided to stick with his commitment and sign with Auburn and it sends several Bama boards into a mini-frenzy.

When you are a mod you have to try to keep the BS separated from the pertinet, valid or accurate recruiting info. With erroneous tweets and Facebook posts it just becomes too frustrating or difficult to keep it straight.

Now I see it posted in this thread that anyone that thinks there is such a thing as facebook stalking is too old to appreciate new technology, or even worse saying any talk about FB stalking is a pile of crap. I am throwing in the towel on this thread. Because to me, at this point you can not possibly separate the BS from real info without constant monitoring and effort.

Just like the Kouandjio family member, this is probably my last post in this thread because it has gotten too ugly for even me to moderate. It was first the UA and AU rivalry that was too ugly now that is in recruiting also.

Other Tide Fans mods will have to keep this thread moderated because if it was up to me I would close it down and not allow another Kouandjio post until he signs an LOI.

Have at folks...

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I believe there is just way too much publicity in recruiting; too much media attention is given to these kids and it places a tremendous amount of pressure on them. NSD is played out like another football season and the first place team is almost as good as a BCS championship (so it seems). I like to follow recruiting and it can be exciting, but the coaches and fans need to lay off these kids and let them be kids.

expect to see more of that in college football. The Nike versus Adidas versus Reebok thing has been raging ni b-ball for years, with each group directly influencing where HS kids sign. With UA trying to become a major player in NCAA football, look for the same type crap in the future. I don't know if this is the case here, but it would not surprise me a bit if it was.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I'm sure the Kouandjio family is looking at this alot less from the rivalry perspective that we are considering. They are hopefully looking at the opportunities for CK over the next 3-4 years.

I was always taught that when making decisions I should do a "pros" and "cons" list. Trying to be objective as I can, here's what I think things might look like from CK's perspective

For Auburn:

Pros: Immediate playing time, probably even starting, play for the defending NC, as So. or Jr. reap the benefits of two good years of recruiting, perhaps contend for SEC or NC in 2-3 years

Cons: play along side 3-4 other new starters, get exposed as a true freshmen, play on a team that struggles next year, potentially be a part of a team that gets NCAA sanctions while I'm there, play on a team that is the hated rival of older brothers team, parents won't be able to watch me play all the time, parents will have to be neutral for the IB.

For Bama:
Pros: red shirt to learn the position better, perhaps play as a true freshman and share time with a Jr., not step on field until I'm ready for SEC competition, immediately contend for an SEC and NC even if I'm not a starter, contend for championships every year, play along side big brother, parents can watch every game

Cons: may have to redshirt if staff deems I'm not ready for SEC play, if Douglas stays for Sr. year may have to sit behind him as redshirt freshman, perhaps not start until redshirt soph. year

There are obviously alot more things that might factor in. Perhaps others might want to add to these. I've tried to be objective as I can by not including anything about coaches or college towns, etc.

Of course, if its about a girl then throw out every bit of this logic!
