I just read this and all I can say is "wow!" and "they must be thinking...I don't know what the heck they are thinking!"

In the area of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill; you are going to have Roy Williams, Coach K and Mark Gottfried..... Mark is a Bama alumnus and I'm gonna pull for him but that doesn't sound quite right. Lord, if the Cameron Crazies ever get a hold of a tape of mark's wife calling into Finebaum they will be downright mean to the Gottfrieds.

Holy smokes, that is really not setting in with me....Good for ole Mark though.

Is this a joke because April fools was last week.
He can recruit -- maybe a couple of years off has reenergized him. I wish him well. He did take us out of the David Hobbs era! For those of you too young to remember -- that's the equivalent of taking over for Mike Dubose.........

Dont think is a bad hire for them. He had some really good years at Bama, but it fell off pretty bad at the end of his tenure. Could have been that he was getting complacent or burnt out. NC State has some talent on the team. They had a top 10 recruiting class last year.

Debbie Yow speaks about the hire:

"He shares our vision of returning State to national prominence. In a word, he's fearless."
"He has a fiery attitude and a can-do spirit, and that's exactly what State needs at this time in our program."

NC State chancellor says:
"He rebuilt a program at Alabama, not exactly known as a basketball university to... a leading program."

Quote from CMG:
"Yeah, we do like to run. We would like to play uptempo. I'm not a guy who likes to play in the 40s and 50s."

HAHA..He dang sure didn't like an up tempo style of play at Bama..That's why I was excited when he was hired at Bama..He said pretty much the same thing after we hired him..I'll always love Mark Gottfried the Player that could shoot lights out when he played at Bama..Mark Gottfried the Basketball Coach at Bama..Not so much..

How soon can we get his new team on our schedule? As we know all too well, Mark's teams do not play well away from home.

I always liked Mark , still do. Someone earlier stated he was good with the x's and o's, and I think he is okay in that regard, at least he talks it well on tv. However, I don't think Mark was a very good game day coach. Any game that came down to a battle of x&o's between coaches, Mark didn't fair so well. I hope he does well with the Wolfpack, and wish him lots of luck and upsets in those UNC and Duke wars.

I had a beer with Mark at a local watering hole in Orange Beach a while back (maybe 6-7 months ago) and i liked him. I gave him a Roll Tide when i met him and he invited me to sit down and have a drink. My brother had previously met him at FloraBama so that kind of started the introduction. Anyway- nice guy- talked about bball and Anthony Grant.....said he still had the itch, didnt say anything about Bama in a negative way. I wasn't too pleased with his coaching there at the end of his tenure with us but I did enjoy his company. I wish him the best

All the best to him...but as one up here in NC, I cannot figure this one out to save my life. Roy Williams and Mike K will eat him alive year after year. Either NC State is delusional or they don't care about challenging the big dogs. I will give him this...a few years ago he brought a team up here and dismantled NC State for the first 30 minutes -- then hung on to win.

As a Bama alum, I wish him well. I'm very interested to see how well he performs with the talent at NC State. They had a top 5 recruiting class in 2010. The talent at NC State will be much better than what he had at Bama.

The truth is that they weren't finding any candidates. Here is a letter from AD Debbie Yow to Wolfpack Fans:

The conversations have been candid. We have not tried to sugarcoat the challenge of rebuilding our basketball program. Our absence for 5 consecutive years from the NCAA Tournament was noted by each coach as evidence that the program is in poor shape and will require a special effort to rebuild.
