Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

I'm not real sure what you are getting at. I think the purpose to a curfew is to prevent things like this from happening, not to just keep it out of the news.

The players enjoy the fan attention, if they have to behave because of the closer scrutiny, that's part of the deal.

I think that was his point. Regular college students typically don't have curfews because the spotlight isn't on them. It is, however, on the football players and so the curfew is to [hopefully] avoid this type of bad publicity.
Bingo. ESPN and/or any other news organization isn't going to run a story every time a group of guys beats the tar out of another human being. They will, however, if the group is famous (athlete, musician, movie star, etc.). That is why coaches have curfew. Keep the players out of trouble and the team out of the negative light of the media.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

If I was the victim, I would sue all 4 players and the school. Jefferson was kicking the guy in the head (according to witnesses) after they pulled him from the car. What a bunch of thugs. Can't fight him man to man, they have to gang up 4 on 1. Typical.......
Ahem, there were four people fighting on the other side, too, amigo. The internet is awash with lurid comments from the alleged victims, but not one public comment from any LSU players, yet. There are also witnesses that have reported a quite different version. The police are investigating and the truth will come out. The fact that no arrests were made the day after the incident suggests that the case is not cut-and-dried.

The fact that no arrests were made the day after the incident may suggest that it was LSU ball players involved and it happened in LA.

To further the conversation...

I would bet with any team, 80% or better would not need a curfew. It's a small segment of immature members that make it mandatory for everybody. Frankly, to tell a man who is 22 years old he must be at home by 10:30 to keep him from misbehaving is insulting to him.

But there seems to be no good way around it. Kids will be kids, even if all them don't act up like kids.

But back to the kick in the face. If I were on a team and another teammate did this, I would not want to be teammates with him any more.

Well athletes are in a different situation than "regular students". The athlete and the college are participating in a contract. One in which the school doesn't charge the athlete for classes, meals and room/board. In return the athlete is expected to perform in his or her respected sport.

There's quite a difference in having 4 on 4 and having people come to the aid of one on the ground being kicked in the head.

Exactly! They know the rules when they sign up.

The Ducks are foaming at the quackers at this one....... Thanks alot for another blackeye the SEC does not need...... PUN INTENDED :)

I honestly can't see how. They have their own share of issues. From the past several seasons: Jeremiah Masoli, LaGarrette Blount, Cliff Harris. WILLIE LYLES..Nah..Oregon has NO place to judge here

Apparently, the part of the brain that determines risk develops later than the rest of it, on average around 25 years old. I think...

Anyway, it's apparent that so many of these guys aren't mature at all. The majority are, because we see that they get their education, and rarely hear of them getting into any kind of trouble. But too many just tend to gravitate to this nonsense. There is no good reason for a college athlete to be at a bar, especially a well known football player in the south. Why? Because there are too many drunken idiots that like to spout off about a QB that seems to be struggling, or a RB that fumbled last week, or this or that. It's a recipe for a disaster.

Now, I'm not saying that's anywhere near what happened here. I'm just saying that possibility is all too prone to happen and for that reason, players should just stay away, abide by the curfew, and have fun in other ways.

hmmm they might want to get tested for lead poisoning. i seem to recall it inhibits impulse control and can make people more violent. if it comes back positive then they can always claim it wasn't their fault.

LSU's season is most likely toast. If those four are kicked off the team, LSU will be lucky to make it to a bowl this year.

Agree. Not looking good for LSU right now. I don't see how you can just suspend them if they are arrested.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

Well I don't know about that. It all depends on team chemistry, because they've got plenty of talent to overcome losing those 4.

Agreed. I think it is a bit premature to be throwing in the towel for them. Jefferson has a viable replacement and both sides of the LSU lines are stacked with talent just waiting to play. I think they'll be fine.
