Re: Penn State Officials Reportedly Planning Paterno's Exit

I'm thankful we have a president that can nip in the bud. See Price, Mike

I would hate to even think something like this could happen at UA.

Look, I am no Mike Price fan but he does not deserve to be mentioned in this thread, no matter the context. ;)

Price showed genuine remorse and moved on from his mistakes at Bama, which are not even anywhere near the severity of this situation.

Thanks for this.

Let us not back off in our condemnations, but let's never think that we couldn't find ourselves caught up in a chain of bureaucracy only to find ourselves complicit in some great evil. "There but for the grace of God..."

That said, the "wait until the evidence" crowd is deluding itself. This horse has left the barn and it's a very ugly horse indeed.

I am thankful for the grace of God, but I don't think I could ever be complicit in anything as evil as this. It is not in my nature. If I witnessed the situation that the GA described, I would not walk away. I am a fighter, not a flighter. If I were in Paterno's situation and the facts were as I have been lead to believe. I would report the incident report to my superiors up the the highest level, I would inform them I was calling the police and telling them what I know. Then I would confront, Sandusky face to face and ask him if it were true. If he said no it wasn't, I would ask the name of the 'child' and give that info to the police. Then I would wash my hands of the entire situation, including any association with Sandusky. That is what you do to honor the grace of God. jmofwiw

I don't think I would, either, but I doubt the GA in question woke that morning thinking he'd have a brain fart if he saw a kid being molested.

But you're right.

Re: Former Penn St. DC Jerry Sandusky arrested for numerous sexual assaults of minors

now looking at 20+ victims, a disappeared (presumed dead or more likely took off with cash for cover up) DA, Joe Pa's knowledge dating back now to 1998, and yet neither Joe Pa nor Mike McQueary are resigning?

the sickness continues

on my way to dinner the local radio announced they got a text from mcqueary's dad that said his son will be coaching this weekend and that he did "what he was supposed to do" in 2002

heads in sand in happy valley.

a culture of non-accountability created by their god, Joe Paterno. congrats on 409 joe!

btw anyone really interested in hearing from an objective, penn state reporter should listen to that interview i posted a page or two back. it's a life-changing, hair-raising 36 minutes...

Well one thing you are right about, is what happens to you when you see something truely shocking. The first time that really happens one is overwhelmed with emotion, nerves, panic and so on. Most folks freeze initially in their panic. I am talking about something like seeing this type of molestation, or someone almost being killed right in front of you, a bad car accident, etc. I have been there and know about the so called 'brain fart' or severe panic you are talking about. However most people are able to shake that off and do what the situation requires.

Re: Penn State Officials Reportedly Planning Paterno's Exit

An accused man deserves his day in court. However, it looks very bad for Sandusky and therefore by association for Paterno, who appears to have failed in the only test that matters. It's a horrible thing for everyone involved, starting with the (alleged) victims.

I hope McQueary has trouble getting a job at the local McDonalds after he is fired. I agree with the others on here, how do you leave the kid there with that monster? And how do you just ignore what happened on a day to day basis around this pervert? The whole thing is sickening. Lord help those victims.

I listened to all I could stomach, but as someone else said I got myself so worked up I had to turn it off. I'm simple minded I guess because as I said earlier I can't get past the eye witnesses not taking action. I must admit being a grown red blooded man it brings tears to my eyes to think of the terror those children went through and if they saw someone walk in, the glimmer of hope they must have had to hope someone would stop it, then to have that person walk away and do nothing. It disgust me. It's the same as those people in China driving and walking around that poor child that was run over laying there dying in the street. Sometimes I don't like the world we are living in very much, and this is one of those days. I hope those involved are tormented mentally over this for the rest of their days. That won't be enough, but its a start. God can forgive them, that's his job not mine because there is no forgiveness in my heart for them.

After what I have seen, heard, and read today (particularly Grand Jury testimony) there are more serious issues at penn state than the next football game. A responsible adult (if there are any in Pennsylvania) needs to step in and shut down the season. There are serious problems there. And they are much more important than winning football games.

Re: Penn State Officials Reportedly Planning Paterno's Exit

I really hate to quote Clay Travis, but he made a good point ealier:

Jim Delany's Big Ten silence is deafening. Mike Slive suspended Bruce Pearl eight games for covering up a BBQ.

Re: Former Penn St. DC Jerry Sandusky arrested for numerous sexual assaults of minors

I just can't fathom any of this. It's beyond my comprehension. For one, if I walked in on some 50 something year old pervert raping a child in the shower, I would only hope I wouldn't have a gun at my disposal because without thinking about it, I'm afraid I'd blow his brains out and spend my remaining days in prison. A couple of people who mean a lot to me suffered from childhood sexual abuse. Their lives have been an unbelievable mess and just knowing what they went through, what it did to their psyche, how it held them back for their entire lives - it makes me so angry I can't even describe it.

Sandusky took those kid's lives away from them. He may as well have killed them, because their lives have most likely been such a mess that they wished they were dead. What I can't fathom is WITNESSING this act and not going straight to the police. No chain of command, no trying to do it "the right way" so as not to hurt the great reputation of Penn State University!

I also can't fathom a man walking in on this act and not trying to protect this boy. I don't understand Paterno just passing it on up the line and not forcefully dealing with it himself. I also don't understand how McQueary and Paterno could work with/around this slug for so many years. I don't want to be around vermin like this. I don't want to associate with them in any way, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to. Is a JOB and a school's reputation more important than a LIFE??

This is the most disgusting thing I've heard in a long time.

Amos Alonzo Stagg’s name being attached to the Big Ten football championship trophy may have to be reevaluated if Joe Paterno is found to be “complicit” in the Jerry Sandusky scandal according to Stagg's great grandson.

The hardware for the first Big Ten championship game next month -- the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy – has yet to be presented. But Robert Stagg told CBSSports.com on Tuesday that he is concerned about the family’s association if “more disturbing evidence,” is found in the case that has captured national headlines.

“If he [Paterno] has been complicit in this, he’s got to step down,” said Stagg, a 54-year-old father working in sales in Grand Rapids, Mich. “Unfortunately that would be the case.”

Asked specifically if “complicit” meant not going to authorities if Paterno knew a crime had been committed, Stagg said: “If you have knowledge of what’s going on, you have to alert authorities. You can’t leave it up to someone else to alert authorities. You have to. It’s the only thing to do.”

Stagg says he assumes Paterno’s innocence but has followed the situation closely. Sandusky, Paterno’s former defensive coordinator, is charged with multiple accounts molesting young boys. Former graduate assistant and current assistant Mike McQueary reportedly told Paterno in 2002 he witnessed Sandusky having sex with a 10-year-old boy in a Penn State lockerroom shower.

This is so bad I can't even find words to adequately express my opinion. I can't feel sorry for anyone here but the children and their families.

Maybe I am the last person to see this...but psu fans chanting support outside the paterno home, and Scott Paterno telling reporters "the status quo holds." Nero fiddles as Rome burns.

Re: Penn State Officials Reportedly Planning Paterno's Exit

Sad series of events for Penn State.

I saw a media clip of Joe leaving the practice field this afternoon with hordes of media surrounding him. His driver had to shout "JOE, JOE" at him to get him into the truck as he kept walking past it. Then, as Joe got into the passenger seat the guy said "OK, bend down - watch your head."

Then, his son having to handle the media to try to let them know what was going on and when Joe would have something to say - it was bizarre watching it.

Joe is 84 - I'm not sure if he fully understands what has happened.
