It did not go un-noticed that DePriest was benched on the next kick-off after he missed his lane and allowed the barn to score. That's a lesson to all of us...I felt bad for the kid as he went back to the sideline and CNS was yelling "You went the wrong way" at him.

It just shows the stress on our special teams right now given the kicker situation. There is absolutely no room for error. So everyone has to do their job with perfection.

That shows you how much Coach pays attention to each play and player as the play is happening.......He noticed real fast who was out of position.........He has already talked to Depriest about it all and what not to do next time.....

Heck even Verne and Gary noticed it and they're not the brightest of bulbs.

The long layoff before the rematch gives a lot of time to work on special teams ... and they need it.

I do not think that DePriest is that concerned. He is a true freshman playing out there and the pressure is huge for young to be expected to perform. It says something that CNS has that much faith in him and that his expectations are so high.

Yah, true freshman, even late in the season, often still have the 'I can / have to do everything' attitude they needed in HS when they were the star player. He'll learn, and he's gonna be a special player.

This is a kid from Ohio with all his family in Ohio and chose Alabama over Ohio State. He came in early and seemed to bleed crimson right away. I felt bad for him, but he will learn. I agree with all you said Warrior. Everyone makes mistakes, but he has also had some solid contributions for us during the season. I hate his biggest mistake cost us 7, but I'd rather he learn now and move forward. We'll need him and everyone else at their finest come BCS time.

it would have been a lot worse if that 7 was the winning TD for the barn. :)

I didn't think he as anywhere near the play either way. Right lane or wrong lane, he was on the opposite side of the field from the kick, and McCalebb caught the ball up near the 20 yard line. DePreist would have had no shot at the tackle either way. JMO.

I don't think so - when they showed the replay, he left the space where McCalebb cut back. If nothing else, he would have slowed him down...

I'm sure his family cringed when CNS yelled at him from the sideline. But he is on a national stage, it is a school of hard knocks, and he'll learn. I would give anything to be yelled at by the Alabama HC in an Auburn game!

I agree - If you play your position and get beat, you tip your cap. If you don't trust your team-mates and move out of position to help with a possible tackle and you get burned, you get yelled at.

I think this was just another learning opportunity for Trey DePriest similar to the one AJ had last year when Coach whacked him on the bum after a questionable decision.

You are correct. I believe Depriest did go the wrong way but he was nowhere near the return guy and his mistake had nothing to do with the return for a TD. But you can clearly see where his mistake might have cost us on another return if he repeats the same mistake so I believe CNS was getting on to him for that reason.
